@kryton57 Sorry another 'less is more' vote from me. Too much going on there. Looks like something my Action Man from the '70's would wear 🙃

I've got the Burton snowboarding mudmaster from a few years ago.
It's great tbh yes it's chunky and a bit transformer looking. I believe the new one has pulse rate but that's about it.

Edit I've just had a close look at that watch face and wow that's just a mess

I've just got this I'm currently trying to fall in love with it. The little screw that holds the clasp on keeps coming loose for a random reason.

Then I twigged where I'd seen the name before.Screenshot_20240107-153953

I've got a couple of watches, a Tag Link that I bought myself as a graduation gift over 20 years ago that is saved for "best". That typically means it needs a battery replacement between uses!

I also bought a G-shock a long time ago to wear daily but actually find it a bit bulky to fit under work PPE comfortably.

Facebook has recently been showing me a lot of Timex and Hamilton watches as well as a lot of Chinese stuff that the comments say never actually turn up.

Anyway, as a daily watch, I'm looking at the titanium automatic expedition watch but wondering if I should just keep the money in the bank and start wearing the Tag as a daily. Is that too flashy or is it wasteful not to use it?

Are Timex nice enough watches? Anything else I should consider?

Have you looked at Baltany?

I have two. Great quality and value for money versus something like Timex or Seiko.

https://baltany.co.uk/

They are assembled in China but they hold stock in the UK and the service is very good.

Oh, that Mudmaster is a bit much. G-Shock is about being robust, not features for me. I get the most legible digital version Walmart has for under $70 when I am in the states once my old one gets tatty after few years.

@onzadog - you should absolutely buy that timex and then write a detailed review of it. I really like them, the legibility of the dial particularly.

The only reason I haven't bought one is the text on the display but I'm always tempted.

Well I couldn’t stop the delivery so I thought I’d try it on (the keeper is shrink wrapped hence the strap sticking out):
IMG_5068
It’s very “metal and glass” premium, not tacky plastic at all yet light at 114g.   It’s is big, but the overriding feel is that if I wanted 1 premium G in a small watch collection this would be it.   I was worried it might make me look like Asbo Dad but I don’t think it does  The metal bezel, glass and indices reflect nicely IRL

<br /><br />
I'm really torn now as to whether return or not.

Indeed.  I think the is one comes down to “wanting a premium G in your life” as opposed to “needing…”

I like it, but I think it should go back.    I think this has highlighted that I’m not on either side of modern or vintage, I just like what I like.

I like a G-shock, but mainly the more 'conservative' shapes, mostly squares.
That one ain't my cup of tea, but then if you like it that's all that should matter right.

@kryton57 Sorry flower, that's horrible. You have some classy watches so if that's to be used to lower the overall class index, crack on. Otherwise - return to sender, address unknown etc

It looked positively gopping in the pic you posted earlier but it looks a lot better on the wrist. It does look a little large for you but then there aren't many wrists a G-Shock doesn't look large on, it's sort of the point.

if you like it that’s all that should matter right

Lol. This is Kryton you're talking about.

...nice, if you like that sort of thing!

Nope, I will never understand someone thinking that looks good or is in anyway practical!

I know that G-Shock is now a stylistic branding choice rather than a technology per se but I would like to see some practical G-Shocks, rather than the "moar is moar" design they tend towards.

This to me is a more "practical" (tasteful even?) G-shock:

And the various versions of 5600 squares are about as compact as G-shocks get before you get into Baby-G's they do have lots of other more 'conservative' G-shock options too. I have ~6.75" girly wrists so really massive watches don't work for me, I also have a couple of older Baby-G which fit well as well as some more sensible Non-G Casio's.

Funnily enough I would drive that truck, maybe I’m compensating….

lower the overall class index

I don’t see it that way but I know where you’re coming from.   It’s the upper limit of “basic”, whereas the others are far ahead of that for me.

Blinkin' 'eck! You could've rested that on top of Oppenheimer's "gadget" and it would have survived the test.

I think you're over-thinking it Kryton.

It's a cool watch that you can hand down to your kids. It will last longer than xenon-124.

That G-Shock of Kryton’s has gone waaay past the event horizon of practical usability and decent ergonomics. It’s also ugly as sin!

Onzadog’s Timex, on the other hand, is the epitome of clarity and everyday usability. Buy it now, it’s the ideal watch, really, it would be ok even at a dressy function.

Just start talking about your EDC loadout and what wilderness survival activities you've been enjoying to complete the look. Extra points if you inexplicably start wearing a random assortment of military-esque gear. . 😉

Jody’s latest video makes interesting viewing, about a watch he wanted but didn’t quite gel with…..   albeit a prettier one.

Edit: I still dont know where I’m at.  Re the aesthic of course I won’t be wearing it parties, work or social events.  I’d wear it for gardening and mancave / manual work, non- sports or sports supporting rugged stuff occasionally, it’ll come on holiday for jeep, donkey and walking tours and for the beach.  I still value my other watches (I’m wearing the Aquaracer) as mid class dailies.  But, the same goes for the 5610/6900 I have.

So it’s a premium G Shock as only a G Shock can be in a class all of its own - whether people like that or not, that’s what it is and I just need to decide if I want to keep it in the watch box now that it’s in my hands.

@TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR

'Mud Resist' = 'Must Resist'. Also shite, sorry.

@kryton57 Your new G should look nice - in a coal mine, at midnight, with the lights off... 🙃

I'm considering switching from one niche to another, selling my Yema Navygraf Heritage and using the cash to buy a better espresso machine.

It's a watch I really like but just don't wear enough. I'll regret it right?

 Also shite, sorry.

No apologies needed. They may 'look' shite to many people, but they are actually very good watches for the purpose they were created and the epitome of a G Shock.

The fact that they are an aquired taste is what it is.

Personally I think a lot of the watches posted on here look like something your creepy uncle who still dresses like it's still 1975 would wear 😉

I only wear my G shocks (have six) occassionally now - usually have a Samsung smart watch on my wrist. This will likely be my next watch though
