It's turned chilly. I have cold feet, misplaced my slippers somewhere but prefer just socks at home anyway, and still largely WFH so I'm after some thick it warm, hard-wearing and if possible (moon on a stick) value socks.
Any recommendations?

Bridgedale socks are the only ones I don't wear holes in and they get worn for almost everything.
I bought some British Army surplus socks many years ago. Still hole-free, warm as toast and going strong

M&S used to do wool hiking socks, but now they’re ‘extra-warm’ or something, but they are very toasty, seem pretty long-lasting, and if my M&S cotton-rich sports socks are anything to go by, will last for years - pretty sure I still have some that must be getting on for twenty years old!

Bought a pair of Darn Tough socks in Aviemore a couple of years ago and they've worn well; so much so that seeing this made me think about getting some more - found Gaynors selling then (comparative to RRP) quite cheaply so bought a couple of pairs of crews for £25 incl. delivery.

You've asked for socks to wear around the house in the south of England and people are recommending mountain wear 🙂
Pringle Cushion Sports socks are warm enough for winter round the house, aren't expensive and are very hard wearing. You could get a weeks worth for the price of a pair of Bridgedales.
If you need warmer then 1000 Mile 3 Season walking socks are a bit cheaper than most - hard wearing and keep their shape and warmth over time / frequent washing
See now there's the thing maccru, I don't get cold feet when active, cold and wet bike ride or walk etc, warm body = warm feet. Sat about at home, I get cold feet. Tredz have the woolie boolies cheapish,. £12 after top cashback, payday10 code and 4 pairs to avoid postage.

But for around the house I just wear cheap heat holders.

I've some "yuedge" work socks - got from amazon after a rec on here. They're pretty cheap, fairly thick and have lasted really well
I've ordered some of the horizon socks Stevenmwmmuir suggests too.
Heat Holders Slipper Socks are great.
I used to winter walk in 4 season boots and know some of the socks mentioned so can maybe compare, don't know Woolie Boolies, over a year wearing the same socks every day to work also my Bridgedales performed less than half against Smartwool mountain crew, they cost more but not double for double the performance and lifespan.
Smartwool are thicker and bouncier longer, bouncy = warm, and you can walk further without tiring so technically performance kit, good for working all day on your feet, £25 - £30 a pair but over a year works out cheaper and you notice the difference immediately, mine are on their second year and much the same, Bridgedales are now dead, thin and cold by comparison, comparing to Bridgedales because they are highly regarded, found nothing else to compare to, I tried Alpaca but 4 washes later couldn't get them on.
