Never really visited the area, going for a few days next week with my 10 year old. No biking as will have dog but a few walks, an overnighter with wild camp would be good if the weather is ok. Anyone recommend anything? Nothing too long as my old knees and hips won't cope.
There's a walk called The Four Waterfalls and it's really nice. Really stunning waterfalls and a pleasant woodland walk. It starts a big cave called Porth yr Ogof. This is a proper cavers cave with underwater sections (and fatalities) but you can pop your head into the large opening just don't go too far in. Plenty of wild camp spots around that bit of the beacons as its a bit less touristy.
Thanks I'll have a look, fancy a bivvy high up on a hill rather than lower down but that would make a good day walk I think
Four waterfalls is awesome, doable for a 10 year old I'd say. They are seriously impressive especially if there's been plenty of rain. The last waterfall you can walk right behind, waterproofs are advised!
Also Pen Y Fan is an obvious but good walk, gets busy though. Lots of route options.
In the Eastern Brecons the are some nice walks around Llanthony, and also near Abergavenny you've got Sugar Loaf and the Cats Back.
There's a lovely little walk starting just outside Talybont on Usk from Pont Blaen-y-glyn up to Blaen y Glyn Uchaf.
Park at Point Blae-y-glyn carpark and start your walk from the bridge and follow the path up the hill that runs along the river. There are a multitude of pools and waterfalls (don't forget to take your swimmers if its sunny) along the way and continue up until you reach Blaen y Glyn Uchaf. If you are feeling fit, continue up the steep path up the hill towards Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion. Return the same way and then head into Talybont on Usk for dinner and a well deserved drink.
another vote for the waterfalls walk, really enjoyed it when I went there.
