evening all

im after a new van. One with a pop top and bed below but don't want the full kitchen etc. And the bed to be normal seats etc most of the time

it'll be our only car so after something fairly efficient, not too massive and fairly new. Under 8 years ideally. Oh, and petrol.

any ideas? I was thinking VW transporter etc but all the pop tops have kitchens etc

VW California Beach has a poptop but doesn't have a kitchen, but doubt you'll get a petrol.

Easiest would be to get a Kombi/Caravelle and have a SCA or Reimo roof put on but Petrol is still going to be a problem, as hardly any vans are/were offered in petrol format.

Mazda bongo? Most are day vans with the kitchen at the back so it may be easy to remove and have a boot.

Although petrol and economical might be mutually exclusive.

You do find a few, but your best bet would be to get it converted yourself.

Have a look on ebay. I think Van Monster do a few of these. Presumably as putting in your interior is a less daunting task than sawing the roof out!

A California beach would be perfect for you. What you’ve said above was exactly my requirement and I’ve had my beach for 4 years now.

They price about the same as a caravelle now In the used market. They’re slightly lower spec than the caravelle (cheaper door cards etc) but get a high spec beach (3 zone climatronic air con, sat nav etc) and you’ll struggle to spot the difference and inside you get the pop top, swivel seats, beds, table and chairs and so on.

I can’t see me changing mine for a long time.

The only issue is that they didn’t do petrol ones until very recently so you’ll struggle to get one unless you go new or ex demo.

T4 Multivan sounds about right. Then get a poptop fitted yourself.

Full size double bed in Seconds.

Seats 5 in “car” mode. Fold out table etc.

Seats 7 in “big car” mode ( 2 removable, proper, seats)

All factory so no dodgy conversions needed.
