UPDATE: Reviews section refreshed, redesigned, searchable: Go take a look
Hello,
I'm going to be part exchanging my car at a dealership and have the V5C log book. Am I right in thinking I only keep the yellow section 4 'Selling, transferring or part exchanging this vehicle to a motor trader'?
Edit: Then send it to DVLA. Will the dealership then hand me the corresponding V5C document for my new car?
Thanks
All happens online now.
Yes, keep the yellow bit for your records. It is the sellers responsibility to report that you've moved the car on.
However, you can do it there and then instantly online, the dealer will probably pull this up in the .gov website and do it right there and then for you.
You will then do the transfer for your new car - the dealer will again sit you in front of the computer and do it for you/let you put your details in, at this point you'll have to pay for the tax too.
The V5 for your new car will arrive in the post in a week or so.
You keep the yellow S4 only.
Depends on what you agreed, new, used, etc.
If they taxed it then they may have sent the V5 in for a change of keeper.
You should get something from them
Thanks all.
So just to be clear if I do it the paper way I keep only yellow section 4 which I send to DVLA and dealer keeps the rest. Only difference being if online I destroy the yellow section 4 and dealer keeps the rest?
