Moving to a stone end terrace that needs replastering

either side of the fireplace there used to be uplighters, but I want to use those alcoves for some floating shelves

thinking about lighting, there's one window and its not that big

whats the thoughts on uplighters on the wall?

naff or not?

Personally, I'd prefer more sockets and standard/table lamps. More flexible and less of a pain when redecorating.

Naff or not depends on the design.

Uplighters show up any flaws in the wall/ceiling surface.
