On way home from work on the m60 about an hour ago. I'm in the inside lane with cruise control on 70ish.

As I catch a car going slower than me the car behind pulls out and along side me. Stays there for quite a while, 3 or 4 minutes. Lad in passenger seat was looking back over his seat at me and my Car. Then they drove off at well over 100mph, absolutely booted it.

What's that all about?
I rang home and got the Mrs to lock everything til I got in in case it was them seeing a potential burglary.

Were you alone with impure thoughts, fumbling around in the dark sir?

Sorry, no idea.

The world is, I'm afraid, full of nutters.

Intrigued why you felt the need to ring home though...are you some kind of undercover agent? 007?

I've no idea about your question but,

As I catch a car going slower than me the car behind pulls out and along side me. Stays there for quite a while, 3 or 4 minutes.

There's no way on earth I'd have had a car alongside me for even a tenth of that timescale. I'd have sped up or slowed down to displace them.

I rang home and got the Mrs to lock everything til I got in in case it was them seeing a potential burglary.

How would they know where you lived from looking at the side of your car?

What car were you driving? Did they want a race?

This seems much more likely than them knowing where you live and beating you home to burgle you.

That's what I was worried about. Or nicking my reg maybe.
If they wanted a race they would have won over a 57 plate mondeo diesel.

Or nicking my reg maybe.

I'm fairly sure there's easier ways of "nicking a reg" than driving alongside a car for several minutes where you can't see the front or back anyway. Such as "going outside," looking on Autotrader or doing a Google image search for "UK cars." Or indeed, "making one up."

What, exactly?

Or nicking my reg maybe.

Your reg plate could be "nicked" from anywhere - a motorway seems an odd place to clone a plate.

Again, are you 007?!

Carry a replica bazooka in passenger seat to point at them with a joker like grin.
They’re bored and goading for a reaction.

He perhaps wondered why you were only 1 of 2 people doing 70mph or less on a motorway ?

He was trying hypnotherapy or mind reading to get your home address to come and rob you ?

He was worried that by going so slowly you were trying to block him making progress, so you could get his home address and rob him, or cline his plates, when he realised this he booted it to get away (to prevent you doing it)

Or maybe he was just a bit daft

Did you beep your horn at him earlier? If so maybe he is going to take his revenge and hunt you down. See trailer for 'Unhinged' the new Russell Crowe film.

But random people do random stuff. Would just forget about it.

I'm calling bullshit. Everyone knows its impossible to get about 15mph on the M60.

I had that happen on the m6 in winter at about 3am driving back from Scotland. About 30 minutes later i got stopped blue light by the plod, to say that another motorist had phoned to say that i was driving erratically! I've no idea what the whole thing was about.

3 or 4 minutes alongside, so for bout 3 miles? Thats bloody ages at motorway speeds... Then they burgled your house (potentially) in the time between them arriving after accelerating to 100 and you arriving? Was it The Flash and Quicksilver out for a spin?

I think when you start using cruise control a lot,you do tend to see some very different driving styles.

They were probably off their tits on something or other.

No coppers around these days, so no consequences.

You witnessed someone driving weird on a motorway - does that not happen every time anyone drives on a motorway. I had it driving back from York the other night - catch someone trundling along in the middle lane on an otherwise deserted motorway. As I catch up with them they pull into the inside, I pull into the middle and overtake. As soon as I'm past they pull back into the middle lane and continue at a leisurely 60mph.

Weird? Yes. Worried and phoned home worried. No.

Perhaps they thought they knew you and were trying to get your attention. When you looked at them they realised they didn't and scooted off all embarrassed?

I should say that I would never do anything like that to some random person who I thought was a mate of mine.
Oh no, not me....
☺️

Are you sure it was 70mph? Could it have been nearer 55mph, you were driving along the M60 section past Bredbury that has permanent 3 mile speed restriction and then opens back up to National Speed Limit again?
Phoning home seems a bit odd.
