just realised that takedown is very nearly an anagram of taekwondo
Not like that they won't.
I am hoping this was some sort of contractual thing, and they just had to squeeze this last piece of detritus out of the tube before they can start to focus on remodelling and improving Bellator.
Signing fighters like Bendo shows an intent to get some real fights on the go.
What weight is Bendo going to be fighting at in Bellator - is he sticking at 170 or back to 55?
I'd like to see him fight Brooks and Chandler but I don't think there are too many guys on that 155 roster that could realistically challenge him outside those two to be honest. Rematch with Josh Thompson maybe.
170 they could stick him in there with Paul Daley. That I would watch.
Diaz has stepped in!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssss
at 170!!!
not sure Cowboy is going to be delighted at that.
and not sure where it leaves UFC 200. surely thompson deserves a shot at Lawler, so is 200 now:
RDA v McGregor,
Thompson v Lawler
Rousey v Holm (if she wins)
aldo v edgar
Let the shit talking commence!

It'll be an easy night's work for Conor but at least the next two weeks will be entertaining!

not so sure.
I know it won't last a round, and it will be a stand up brawl, but Nate is an animal, you never know, one good shot...

Nate is awkward, durable and rangey with incredible BJJ and good boxing but he lacks knock out power. He grinds people down.
If he's smart he'll try to take Conor down and look for a submission, but I can't see him trying.
I know I shouldn't be, but I am more stoked for this fight than Dos Anjos.
Like a really tasty appetiser, and the mains will still be coming at some point 🙂
I got my McGregor by round 3 KO at 9/1.
Can't help but feel a bit "meh" about McGregor vs. Diaz. After watching back some of Dos Anjos' more dominant performances (e.g. Petis, and Diaz himself), I honestly thought we'd see him win a very entertaining fight. Still, the possibility of things going very differently to how one might predict is an obvious part of its appeal.
What do people reckon regarding McGregor's ability to get up to welterweight at 2 weeks notice? Diaz' corner has been accusing him of all sorts of steroid jiggery-pockery. Presumably, he'll have been intending to cut weight to get to 155 for Dos Anjos, then found himself needing to do the opposite. Wonder how much he ultimately needed to put on? He looks markedly bigger in the recent build-up videos, talking all the while about how many pies he's had that day.

He's already on weight. He doesn't have to "go up" at all. He just doesn't have to come down.

Selling the fight. Typical salty Diaz rhetoric.

He had plenty of time to cut, lean muscle holds more water than fat. These guys can lose 18-20lbs of water in 24hrs.
he walks around at 170. He hasn't cut anything.
I agree re. the excitement, it hasn't got the same kudos of the RDA fight.
I think Diaz is there for the payday, and is kind of coming across like win or lose he just wants a payday. It won't last a round.

Christ, can you imagine how horrendous that must feel? You'd be pissing sand.

Well, people have died doing it so yeah. Can't feel good.
Actually....I take it back, this is my favourite:
Well...I am £45 richer. 8)
Yeah I ended up sticking £20 on Diaz after seeing the weigh in. McGregor just looked "off" to me.
Social media inevitably filled with clueless people saying McGregor is a hype job. All we learned last night is he has no business fighting at that weight. If Diaz can do that with two weeks notice and no proper camp, imagine what the likes of Cerrone would have done to him.
Most pleased for Miesha though. Didn't give her much of a chance against Holm which raises the question, did Rousey just have an off night against her?
Yeah, I think the idea of Conor as a force at 170 is and always was overly optimistic.
Last nights fight wasn't even a commentary on that imho, what we really saw was 2 natural 155lb-ers in there. Nate has always been better at 155. Remember the Mcdonald shellacking? We all know that Conor struggles to make 145 and he's fought equally as successfully at lightweight.
The difference in my opinion was the reach. Conor forced to overextend constantly looking for that left hand. Plus the fact that Nate is a Diaz and therefore tough as nails and very skilled.
I'm also pleased for Miesha. Sad for Holly, but it's nice to see Tates hard work finally paying off. Thought it would be a case of always the bridesmaid for her so fair play.
I think the jury is out on Holm at the moment.
Didn't look particularly great in any of her UFC fights bar the Ronda bout. Efficient maybe but not great.
Rousey came straight at her - bull matador style which was perfect for the way Holly likes to fight. She's a great athlete but time will tell I think.
She was winning on the scorecards up until then too. Hope she comes back strong and starches Rousey again in a title eliminator.
I think Connor maybe has another shot at 170, but he needs to work on his wrestling. Messing about with pool noodles is all well and good, but that's not going to help your ground game with a BJJ black belt like Nate. Saying that, Lawler probably would destroy him so 155lbs is probably his ideal.
I think my favourite line from Nate was:
I would have a lot more knockouts on my record, but as soon as they start getting landing on they start shooting, and all the sudden they become wrestlers
Also, the curse of EA covers continues....

I like Connor but I think he now has to accept he's king in the smaller division but can't walk through the divisions, as he goes up his power gets less and opponents chins get stronger not to mention they hit harder. (For those that didn't watch he was screwed before it hit the floor, punch drunk like Ronda was).
I can't now see a convincing reason why he will get a shot at the 155 belt. TBH he needs to works massively on his ground game cause he's come up very short once again. If said Diaz was a good boxer with exceptional ground/BJJ on social media and felt the upset might be there.
Connor (like Hollie Holme) has proved to be a one dimensional fighter in MMA, good stand up but you can't be like that in MMA.
I see a short and unsuccessful MMA career for Connor from here on out, every one will use the take down and ground game against him, look at Petisbeaten once then every body follows suite with strategy!
Never rated Hollie Holme myself, not really done great in UFC until Ronda, was winning fights but bloody boring she wouldn't open up, very much a counter fighter and Ronda bum rushed her and play into her strengths. Hollie doesn't have a ground game right now...bit like Connor!
God. Dammit.
Ah well. Great event. Great fights. McGregor and Diaz were awesome.

You should probably tweet Conor* and Holm* and tell them what not to do. I'm sure they don't have a clue 😉
Ah well. Great event. Great fights
You watch the same card as me? The two best fights didn't include men. The other fights were a bit one dimensional. Really glad Diaz won. Always liked him as a fighter and he deserves the limelight and riches he'll get for this. Hopefully it'll shut McGregor up for a while. I like him and he plays the game better than anyone, but he's not even the best fighter as his own weight never mind stepping up. He was too cocky before and during the fight. If he'd listened to his corner that fight was his.
EuroYou watch the same card as me? The two best fights didn't include men.
Evidently not since there were a ton of good fights other than the girls. Ishihara v Erosa was great (I wanted to see Erosa get smashed). Saggo v Salas was a BJJ masterclass, and Sanchez Miller was a war. Taleb v Silva was awesome. Miranda v Guimaraes was awesome too.
Anderson v Lawlor and Latifi v Villnate were crap, but other than that a great night of fights and the main event was just phenomenal. No feeling out, no gaming, just trying to kill each other from start to finish.
Anderson v Lawlor and Latifi v Villnate
That's the only two others i saw. Seems i got the 'lite' download. That's what you get when to grab the first torrent you see.
Casual fan in hastily formed opinion shocker 😛

Is it sad that I mainly look forward to Lawlor's weigh-ins, rather than his fights.
Dan Severn being a personal fav...
Well....ain't this some bullshit 🙁
It appears that momentum towards a rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor at UFC 200 is quickly building. The latest report on the possibility of the fight is that it’s simply a matter of contracts being finalized.
“It’s not happening at a more natural 155 pounds. It’s happening at 170 pounds. The contracts are already out there and that’s what they want,” Ariel Helwani recently said on The MMA Hour, not revealing specific sources.

Rumours have been circulating since St. Patricks day. Obviously there's sufficient hype and interest around it to make it viable.
Personally I can't complain, the first fight was excellent. No reasons to assume the second will be anything other than awesome.
McGregor has every right to assume that if he works on his cardio, as opposed to binging on coke and hookers and actually fights tactically he can win. And get another massive pay day.
Nate obviously feels that with more preparation he can beat McGregor more convincingly .....and get a massive pay day. everyone wins.
Does Conor have a right to a rematch, tho? In strict sporting terms I feel no. Conor should defend his 145 belt to either Aldo or Edgar, then start moving back up to fight Nate at 155. This move is not fair to several other fighters just so UFC can go for the big money PPV while Conor's stock is still high.
Of course I will watch it, and will bet on Nate again....although, I have a sneaky suspicion Conor has learned his lesson and will be aiming to throw bombs and not go to the ground.
I wonder if Nate loses the second fight, whether he'll be offered a rematch? 😉

At the end of the day it's entertainment. A good fight is better than a dull championship fight. Aldo has zero right to a rematch, he needs to beat a top 5 contender and show that a) he will actually show up and b) he still wants it.
Edgar can beat McGregor, but in an incredibly dull fashion that will damage Edgar, McGregor and the UFC. The only person who wants that is Frankie obviously.

All he did was throw bombs 🙂 and McGregor's ground game is no joke. No one mentions the x guard sweep he landed in the first round because it was so well executed it happened in a blink. Case in point in he went to the ground with Nate in round one and won the exchange but gets zero credit because the casual fan just about understands a choke and an armbar. He's not at Nate's level but few MMA fighters are.
It was bizarre after the last fight having conversations with my brother in law about it, someone who has literally never watched an mma fight, but was deriding McGregor for tapping. Or my mother in law lecturing me about how vicious the sport is, meanwhile her 12 year old grandson is starving himself to stay on weight so he box for the Irish Champs 🙄
196 was against Diaz

As in, throw bombs accurately. Being more thoughtful in exchanges before trying to wheel kick a mother****er.
I am not denigrating Conor's ground game, but he did lose due to an ill-advised takedown attempt, and then being controlled by Nate's superior BJJ via leg traps etc from that point. For me, the way Nate controlled him is more interesting to watch than the final choke.
What I am saying is Nate > Conor on the ground, and IMHO if Conor is going to win the next fight it will be from strikes.....maybe even summon the Barboza and make contact with a wheelkick...
Feel free to bookmark this post to tell me how wrong I was in July 😉
I'm can't be 100% of course but I think McGregor was using his kicks to control distance and enter into a punching range as opposed to genuinely aiming for a headkick ko. One of them maybe. He's got good kicks, especially to the body, and his oblique kicks were good too. I think if he has a chance it'll be inside leg kicks, oblique kicks and throwing more combinations with his hands...if he can get in range without getting lit up.

The fight was already over by that stage. Practically out on his feet, no one was home. Knocked out or choked out, take your pick.
