Why do they get so upset when you unfollow someone? Like it's a personal insult or attack, do people really take it so seriously?

I followed one of our roadie club members. What a mistake that was. All I got was a constant feed of of biast polital views. Unfollowed rather sharpish.

How would you know if you got unfollowed? Has no-one done it to me yet or do people go through their list and memorise everyone?
It's like you've cut them off from their inheritance or something, half expecting a solicitors letter to arrive

I haven't blocked them just unfollowed so they often msg demanding an explanation!
I tried following Ivan Basso last year, you know in a "get with the program" stylee.. But Bouy was it boring reading about hotel rooms.
Haven't used it since.
Don't see the appeal, nor the need to read about what burger someone's eating.

Can't say as I'd notice if anyone unfollowed me. Or care, for that matter.
Dunno but that follow checker thing that tweets on your behalf every morning would be an instant unfollow for anyone I hadn't met in real life and don't generally enjoy following 😛

I have an account, but haven't posted anything since October 2011. I think I'd need twitter on my phone rather than a tablet to use it. It seems to make the most sense to me as a mobile thing for some reason.

Besides, your doing it all wrong. You send out a message saying that you are having problems with spam accounts, or that you are being forced to rethink your Twitter account due to an upgrade in Social Media security at work ( this of course depends an where you work, for me it's actually a very real thing ).
This then gives you a reasonable explanation as to why you a having a 'cull', without then putting other peoples noses out of joint, regardless of whether you wish to or not. You can always add ,that you may be creating a separate 'personal' account later, and you will re-follow them at a later date.
You can then delete away without ruffling feathers.
Oh the social politics you have to negotiate in the 21st Century. 🙄
