We will be in touch
Right STW massive, we've had our mattress for over 5 years now, probably getting on for 6/7 years. Its been giving me a bad back for sometime and has now finally effected the OH as well as me so its time to shop. I've never loved the bed in general and would rather something 'all in one' so to speak so we're going to get a base and mattress and have just spotted the tv beds and wondering about them. We dont have a tv in our bedroom, we watch downstairs then go upto bed, generally stuck to the bedrooms are for two things philosophy but now thinking it might be good. Has anybody actually got one and how do you find? A gimmick or best thing since sliced bread? Can anyone recommend a particular model they have?
Questions you need to ask are:
Are you a professional footballer?
Do you own a Bentley continental GT
If the answer to either of those is no, then you shouldn't have a TV bed
My bedroom is for lots of things.
Reading, drinking coffee, shaggin, sleepin, listening to the radio, and if the sheets need changing, I'll have a shit instead of getting up to the toilet in the morning.
I wouldn't have a tv bed though.
Handy if you have a ceiling mounted CCTV cam.
(oops - did I really wrote that?)
(oops - did I really wrote that?)
Yes, you really did wrote that 8)
Depends on the quality of the TV, I guess. Do you get to choose the TV? What inputs does it have? Can you connect external devices to it (iPad / WD Live TV etc). Would it be cheaper to get a bed and a separate TV?
I think they're a decent idea but MrsJulianA doesn't.
I am not a footballer and don't drive a Bentley.
I'd spend the extra money that you'd need to get a tv bed on a better bed with super comfy mattress (can highly recommend the pocket sprung Ikea ones in 'firm') and a posher tv. Win/win and you won be booted out from STW for not conforming to the middle class grauniad niche.

will the signal interfere with my iron lung?
I'm already screwed with the STW massive I drive an Audi and consider two bikes combined worth more than the Audi to be completely necessary! In fact I take great pride in rejecting the stw stereotyping! We got a new tv very recently but will check out the ikea mattress' cheers for that!
TV bed?
Is that a chair dressed as a bed, or are we talking a post op chair that now reclines fully flat?
Got a bad back, need a new mattress.... should I get a TV bed????
Get a good quality bed and mattress, if you want a tv in the bedroom buy a tv for the bedroom.
Surely you can get a normal bed and then get a pop-up tv in a box for the end of it.
I hear there are stocking issues for tv beds.
Good idea tv beds, especially if you haven't got room for a separate table to have a tv on or don't want to wall mount it. You can have a great mattress on any bead stead too.
They're a bit cheesy, but who cares? It's your bedroom, not like you drive around in it.
Are we the only people in the UK with only one TV?
My MIL lives on her own and has about 3-4 of them.
TV in the bedroom? I've never seen the point. We watch TV downstairs, feel tired, go to bed. Don't EVER watch it in the morning. Not ever.
No, just no.
PeterPoddy, I can out-smug you - we don't have a TV at all. 🙂
We do have a projector though for watching films/series/redbull/iplayer etc
Keep TVs out of the bedroom IMO. Bad for your sleep and bad for... other stuff.
And if you're gonna get one don't get it integrated into the bed!
There you go, OP. SmugTrackWorld has spoken. Have a good long look at yourself, sell your TV and go live in a hedge.
Not a hedge, a vegan co-operative.
LOL @ Jamie
These don't do tv beds, just quality mattresses and advice.

Slight hijack, but which mattress you go for? Not got a load to spend, so was going to get the Origins Pocket 1500 + base.
Is it possible to get a bed with a built in wood burner?
Do you drive a white audi/range rover or live in Cheshire?
I'd just get a bed
we have a 40" LED on a 36" folding bracket. When its not used it pushes flat against the wall in the alcove beside the chimney breast so not overly noticeable. When in use its just pulled out and is in the perfect viewing position.
We don't really watch TV in bed except for cuddles with the kids whilst watching a family film or me and the lad watch bikey type stuff of youtube together. I would have this setup for the latter alone!
We glanced at them, when last bed shopping (a while back), stupidly expensive for a start. Spend the extra money on a better mattress!
Again we only have one tele, tablets fill in any gap in viewing needs.
Are we the only people in the UK with only one TV?
Nope I have only one.
As for the bedroom I prefer to shag myself silly in there..... occasionally I even manage to persuade someone else to join me 😉
I guess if you want one then surely a decent bed and a decent tv is the solution rather than something integrated
From a practical point of view the TV is normally mounted in the footboard which for most people will be in the centre of the room ie.Not against any internal or external walls.
So if your going to watch TV you will need a aerial running to it, so nice long length of cable trailing round the room, having it connected to a DVD player?
The DVD player will normally sit in a section underneath the main bed so in order to change discs use the remote will involve you hanging over the side of the bed,
Want Sky connected , no problem see the first 2 points.
Only time I saw TV beds in my job as a SKY engineer was in the Chav houses where they generally live in bed, for me they solve a problem that doesn't exist, and they look sh!t.
generally stuck to the bedrooms are for two things philosophy
I treat my kitchen in exactly the same way...
Slight hijack, but which mattress you go for? Not got a load to spend, so was going to get the Origins Pocket 1500 + base.
Origins Pocket Reflex 1000 Kingsize
Does depend on your physical attributes though. Great mattress even though its at the lower end. Can't see why I would need to spend more.
