My mechanic m8's father's collection, he now happily retired & just plays occasionally... though one might be my m8's. Really tightly pack together, so I couldn't get into the two in the corner to ID them or take better pictures. Going back in couple of weeks, so will try to remember a proper camera next time

If anyone goes to Saltburn in Teesside, check out the HUUUGGEEE collection of beach tractors at the bottom of the hill. There were approx 21 there when I was there a couple of years ago.

It's a bit quiet here at work, so I'm doing some catching up on things.
I've never actually looked at this thread, despite it running for four years! I can't see most of the pics, because of firewall stuff, so I'll have a proper look later.
One comment by redthunder caught my eye earlier on:

redthunder - Member
c.1942 HUBER 8ton 4cylinder diesel ROLLER
Serial No. 3400
Fitted with CAT D4 engine with petrol donkey start, rear scarifier and canopy. Originally imported into the UK by the US Army for airbase construction during WWII. Post war sold to West County building firm and used for road construction then later used as company display. Signed on canopy Downing Rudman & Bent.

DR&B were in Spanbourne Avenue in Chippenham up until a few years ago, their site is now a housing estate, they used to have an old road roller by the entrance.

This one isn't going to trump anybody, needs a little restoration work:

@timber, bloody hell, that's a good question. I'd have to drive over there, it's actually an old sawmill at Honeystreet, on the K&A Canal, not far from Devizes. That photo was taken a couple of years ago, when they had a little festival there, and the car parking was in the field out the back. It's probably still there, and if I get the chance, I'll take a run over there Sunday, see what I can find out.
@redthunder, it's sort of rhetorical, 'cos I haven't a clue!
But here's another shot from the same place, but zoomed in:

[IMG] [/IMG]

Note the three deer; wonder if one's called John... 😉

I'd say a John Deere 6930 or something in the 6030 series.

Well bugger me! I was sort of joking when I wondered if one of the deer was called John! I was using maximum 20x zoom to get that last shot, from the road to Avebury from Fyfield; the tractor's pretty much on the edge of the Ridgeway, I guess around 1km away.
I've rather got the tractor bug now; there's a steam and traction engine rally at Castle Combe next weekend... 😀

Timber, I went around to the sawmill this afternoon, on my way to the pub. 😀 The old tractor is still there, but I couldn't see the saw bench. However, a bloke in a big tractor saw me and asked what I was looking for, thinking I was a pikey looking for scrap, and when I explained, he said the saw bench was, IIRC, an Archie Kidd, made in Devizes. He thinks it's still kicking around there somewhere, but a load of stuff has been moved from around the tractor.
Hope that helps... 😀

Cheers CZ, got something similar, but different.
Unfortunately parts are becoming bit of an issue.
Probably still in use anyway, remove some things, add some things and the old stuff keeps going on. Our old tractor with the sawbench is probably the most used and abused thing we have.

It's possible, tractor guy might have been the boss or Forman at the mill, he followed me along the lane that leads to the pub, then turned into the yard. Big place, too, so it's quite possible someone suddenly thought, 'damn, where's that old saw bench we had kicking around?', and went and dug it out.
I do feel sorry for the poor old tractor sitting there in all the brambles and nettles, though.
Still, it was worth taking the trip over, I spent the afternoon watching paragliders flying off of Milk Hill, nearby, and I took over 300 photos.

I really must get some more pictures of our farms tractors up on here. We've got a WD Case and loads of Fordsons.

My own Nuffield DM4 is coming along nicely, the "What Tyres for Thread" becomes pretty limited by budget at the cheapest rear tyre being £250!!!

Not sure tbh but one of the great things about the Field Marshall was that you could start it by cranking a starting handle or use a shot-gun type cartridge that you fitted into a breech assembly then hit the firing pin with a hammer. 🙂

On the banks of the River Nith, Dumfries. There is a walk/path from Kingholm Quay to Glencaple, both old ports. They are replacing very old fencing which has suffered yrs of flood damage.
The ground belongs to; http://www.sruc.ac.uk/info/120197/research_farms/414/crichton_royal_farm

The double wheels are required to overcome the boggy ground, signs are that it has nearly got stuck a few times and some interesting lines taken to avoid/get around various obstacles/creeks!

Quick stretch on the iPad and it looks like Alan Gibson, bottom of door and windscreen. Will check yellow pages, sure they are local.
Could have a look tomorrow, it is a fairly long length of fencing to replace.
Quick google reveals http://agibsonfencing.co.uk/
Mob number on rear window is as above.
