don't want to compromise too much on speed ar recentcy of android version, but don't need something too snazzy either.
definately need a toough phone, having smashed the screen of my previous (tough) phone, 2 tablets and a laptop in the last year or so...
i'm not generally clumsy, i just insist on balancing things precariously in my workshop/worksite to listen to music off them...

what have you got that's good? and cheap?

droid x?
and maybe a speaker with the blue teeth, so you can balance that precariously instead of your more expensive device? 😆

So you want something tough, recent, fast and cheap, blimey.

IF about £500 isn't too much what about a Moto X Force - with an unbreakable screen, it's last years model still at this years prices there is a Moto Z force available but seemingly only in the US currently.

Isn't the SG7 now being promoted as an "outdoor" phone only... isn't that rugged enough?

I think so, and I've got the "Commuter" one: If you want to go for really rugged, they do the "Defender".

They do add bulk to your phone, but it's worth it, IMO. I've dropped my Moto G, and previous phones, on regular occasions, often on concrete, or tiled surfaces, and they just bounce.

They don't have a hard screen protector, but the case sits a few mm above the screen, so it would have to take a direct impact on the screen to do any damage.

I'm sure others will come on to say they've broken phones in Otterbox cases, but not in my experience.

One downside is that the raised bevel around the screen can make typing at the extreme edges of the screen a little awkward but, again, it's a small price to pay IMO.

Dont bother with the "tough" ones. If you drop it the wrong way (and you will) it'll still break. As above, get a protective case.

+1 for the Otter Box commuter. Plenty tough enough. I found the defender too bulky and effected the microphone.

I have a Galaxy S5, which is IP67 without the case. The Otter Box just adds protection against drops.

You can get a refurb for less than £200.

My Huawei Honor 6 has been very good - I keep dropping it out of various pockets onto hard surfaces and it's still going strong. The back cover is starting to lift away, and there are a few small scratches but nothing serious.

No sign of the batteries catching fire either which is a nice bonus.

I'd be dealing with this aspect of the problem, rather than the phone end.

Can't you just get a cheap Bluetooth speaker - £25 will get you a decent one & the keep the phone somewhere safe....?

I've got one of these:

i don't really need to deal with that aspect of the problem, i'm making it out to be worse than it is, but i am a joiner and it'd be good if it's a toughy.

ok, doesn't have to be all 4 of tough, recent, fast and cheap.
recent-ish, fast-ish would be a start compared to my previous one.

i'm thinking a Moto G/X/E would be fine, with a decent case.

what about bar mounts? any options out there?

apologies for the belated thread revive but...

Dewalt appear to have brought out a bash/waterproof phone with what looks like a lazer measure doofer built in. Not cheap. But cheaper than two broken phones perhaps.

I've got an Otterbox Commuter and it's great, saved my phone plenty of times. Will get another when I upgrade to a SG7 (waterproof) next month.
