Hi Chaps,

I'm getting married this year, and we're planning to spend a week in Torridon as our honeymoon, riding and walking with the dogs.

I've got a couple of cottages on the shortlist, are there any recommendations of holiday cottages that people have stayed in, in and around Torridon?

Cheers

Ricks

Stayed here for a long weekend last year - it's actually in Shieldaig.
Beautiful house & location but might be a bit expensive just for a couple (we were in a larger group)

Another one for An Cos but yes, it's huge and expensive!!
Stayed there in October '13 and it was every bit as good as the website suggests.
Staying at 'The Torridon' (next door to the Inn) is another expensive and very high quality option but is a very different prospect to a peaceful week in a cute cottage. We've stayed in a number of bonny houses up there over the years but nothing that strikes me as a honeymoon option, all suited to larger parties. If you find something that's maybe suitable and then want location advice, give me a shout if you wish.

An Cos doesn't work, as it's far too big, too expensive and doesn't take pets 😉

Thanks though 🙂

The Torridon wouldn't work either, as they're not going to be into taking a couple of collies into the rooms.

I've seen a couple of smaller places on LHH, which look promising, nestled away at the far end of the village (i.e. when you go past the campsite just keep going until you get to the pinnacle).

We've been up there for a couple of days last spring, and had the most amazing ride, no wind, sunny, no midges, and just superb riding.

Try Wester Alligin, stayed at No8 a couple of times, ace spot looking back down the loch, dog friendly and a good owner.

Its basic, but has everything you'll need.

We looked for places up there a couple of years ago & there wasn't much to choose from, IE for 2 people & takes dogs. We ended up in a crappy place on Loch Carron in the end!

We stayed in the stables here http://www.torridonestate.com/

I would recommend it but they were a bit arsey about the apparent state we left the cottage in. They withheld the deposit as they claimed we had blocked the bog (found blocked on arrival) claimed there was mud everywhere and we hadn't cleaned the cottage on departure.

We thought we left it as required, beds stripped, dishes done etc but they wanted us to hoover, dust and clean the bathrooms etc.

Great location but beware when you leave it, its got to be spotless.

My last email from them told me I was banned from staying there ever again.

Good job Bruneep 🙂

We clean and hoover all cottages we stay in before leaving, usually they are in a better state than when we arrived.

I'll check it out 🙂

I stayed in that hotel on New Years Eve a few years ago. Nice place and decent food. The most exciting moment was (unsuccessfully) performing CPR on an elderly resident the next morning and then having to cover up/hide the body until the undertaker arrived.

Have you ever tried to get an undertaker in the Scottish Highlands on the 1st of January? 😆

Basically they want you to do their job for them. I've come across that too and it's bollocks.

Ben Damph Estate has a couple of places. I've not been there yet, but I will probably be staying in their log house soon. The bothy looks nice and basic. http://www.bendamph.com/bothy

Yup that's basically what they told me they have lots to do on change over day.

It was clear that having a cleaner to clean after a paying customer isn't top priority for them, shame as it was a nice place.

I did get my deposit back only I opened PP dispute(booking by PP) followed by a rather snide email informing me I was banned from their rentals.

Planning on sleeping on something high this weekend, so could be around on Sunday once we're down. I'll message you if we're in the area.
