under investigation for alleged violence when they knew exactly zero about what happened apart from the scant headlines?

So what do you know that allows you to judge?

Who me?

Now't that hasn't been reported on the BBC.

Still think it might be a publicity stunt of some magnitude.

Hey Ho..

Moron signing off.

I know exactly the square route of F all! Exactly like the 120 thousand people who signed the petition. Which is why I wouldn't sign a petition one way or another and would prefer that folk who know a bit more than me made the judgment.

Smoke, mirrors and a bit of manufactured theatre on the run in to the Porsche, mclaren Ferrari programme... Making a crisis out of a drama?

They've cancelled next week's which was the last one but nice bit dramatisation there
Three more episodes according to the BBC.

The Sun has gone with "bop gear" and the Star "strop gear". Surely stw can do better than that.

BBC own 50% of the production company, not all of it.

Massive mistake on the BBC's part - someone from 5 Live tweeted that TG generates 5 times the 5 Live budget - how do the BBC intend to fill the revenue shortfall? And what about job losses if the series goes/fails without JC?

Strikes me as the BBC becoming weak and pandering to a vocal minority of Guardian reader types.

Massive global audience figures, magazine spin off, licensing, show and petition signatures suggest they'd be stupid to lose him.

someone from 5 Live tweeted that TG generates 5 times the 5 Live

it was only 3 times last night.

All this publicity is pushing the value of Top Gear for the BBC up already!

If you tried to hit your boss would you expect to just carry on as if nothing had happened?

If not then it's not pandering to anyone by suspending Clarkson pending an investigation, it's doing the right thing.

2 1/2 years out of date there I believe. But to be honest irrelevant either way.

As Wwaswas says the 'star' of the show has been suspended pending investigation making the show a bit difficult to air. Nothing has been permanently cancelled that we, the general public, have any knowledge of. I can't see how the BBC could have acted differently. Anyone who thinks they could be accused of allegedly punching a colleague at their place of work and not be suspended pending can be added to my moron list 😉

Would have been a great opportunity to bring in Chris Harris but then that'd turn it back into a car program and I'm not sure the country/World is ready for that.

Harris has said that he's been approached about several "Top gear Style" programmes but turned them down as he's not interested in gimmickry etc, he just likes driving cars. Which is good because he'd be an awful fit on the current TG format.

He's done a piece with Tiff for 5th Gear apparently.

I think Clarkson is the type specimen for total tube. I have two theories on this:

1. he wants to be sacked, so did it on purpose

2. he has lost his marbles (erratic, spontaneous offensive behavior)

I won't miss him. Good show, but will survive without that dork.

TBH even with his vast failings it wouldn't be the same. It'll come across like Top Gear America. You'll watch it but somehow its not right. Almost like you are watching a tribute band at your local pub.

Meanwhile C5's Classic Car show is quite good 🙂

Chris Harris? Why do PH'ers love him so much ❓

3. The 'complainant' was not the bloke hit, but some tofu knitting, luvvie, guardian reading BBC intern who saw a couple of blokes arseing about/bantering from the other side of the room and ran home crying about it, so that by the time it got home to auntie Beeb everything had been blown out of proportion.

You think it is weak to deal with Clarkson hitting someone in the workplace? It would be weakness not to deal with his bullying.

The 'complainant' was not the bloke hit, but some tofu knitting sandal wearing BBC intern who saw a couple of blokes arseing about/bantering from the other side of the room and ran home crying about it, so that by the time it got home to auntie Beeb everything had been blown out of proportion.

The victim was too scared to report it himself, that's how bullying works.

who saw a couple of blokes arseing about/bantering

really?

If it was all 'bants' then the other person involved would have been spoken to prior to Clarkson being suspended and no action would have been taken? Or they'd both have been suspended? Or neither.

I'm so sorry if it's been done already, but Vice have gone in swinging:

It's about time Jeremy Clarkson was punished for being a shitlord, to be fully honest, because its something he's been for a while—or, arguably, all of his life.

Details are thin on the ground at the moment—it's not yet known whether the Clarkson-producer set-to was a fistfight, a mouth fight, or if they both just unzipped their dicks from their pissed-on dad jeans and jousted at each other

🙂

If you owned the production rights to a tired show that had seen it's day, what better way of increasing it's value before sell off.... anyone watch Jonathon Ross these days?

It is at least as accurate as any of your imaginings of the incident, and based on the way the BBC have bent over backwards to pander to Clarkson in the past, seems much more plausible than the depiction of the BBC as tofu munching handwringers.

Precisely, wild supposition based on rumour is a game we can all play, but so far it's all on the side of 'guilt by accusation'

Drac: Nah, not selling it off - the BBC have been planning a relaunch with a new format

They will only be allowed to review hybrid or 'green' vehicles, and they are going to have four presenters, a woman, a gay, an ethnic and a disabled, so as to better reflect modern British society.

Or maybe they sorted it all out.

Who knows?

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good lynching.

You just can't help it, can you ninfan?
JC does seem to appeal to, amongst others, those who get really offended that they can no longer call 'a spade a spade'.
If it's all just an act, why would that be?

If he's done nowt wrong, it'll all be sorted and he'll be back in work soon.
If he is a bullying ****, he'll get fired.

Shall we wait and see?

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good lynching.

The lynching seems to be mostly directed at those saying;

"It's right they suspended him and waited to establish all the facts before taking further action"

Obviously everyone who's always thought he was a knob has leapt on this as confirmation and those that thought he was god incarnate feel he's been hard done by.

Who's going to be the other 3?

No mention of gingers?

First the BBC lost its edgy comedy. Then it was reborn and then they tried killing BBC3, BBC lost F1, possibly a watered-down soon to be shot Topgear.

Will they have any motoring content at all left or will it be dross and everyone else puts out quality output?

Anyway I can avoid the licence fee and still see other output?

a woman, a gay, an ethnic and a disabled

I know taking offence is something I choose to do but the way that you expressed those terms in what appeared to be an attempt to denigrate them as having less value for what they are rather than something they choose to be has achieved it.

Mainly the 'a' on the front like they're all some sort object, I think.

the more I've read from the JC fan club on here and elsewhere the more I think there's a) a huge crossover with ukip supporters and b) if he's their spiritual leader then it's best he's off the air.

So you're not sure why you've taken offence but you think you have but not sure why. Odd.

Massive mistake on the BBC's part

No, they have done exactly the right thing. It is alleged that he assaulted a work colleague, so it's entirely appropriate for them to suspend him pending a disciplinary investigation.
