How right you are. What they should do is get four men. Straight, white, rich, hairy manly masculine men, mind, with nice deep voices. In fact they should open each episode with a live cattle slaughter, with machetes, which is then cooked (in a petrol filled pit) and eaten (with bare hands) during the show.

I do know, it's just articulating why I'm struggling with.

The one that brought me up short was describing someone as 'a disabled'. It's dismissive, insulting, suggesting that someone has less to offer as a result, almost that they're not a person at all.

But it's true with all of the list, tbh - it's saying

"here's a choice of inferior objects that will be substituted for the human 'the people' really want"

fair enough, I wasn't asking for moderation to take place and the first thing I said was that it was a choice I'd made to react how I have.

It still doesn't feel right to see those words written that way in that context but I've had my say on it.

No, they have done exactly the right thing. It is alleged that he assaulted a work colleague, so it's entirely appropriate for them to suspend him pending a disciplinary investigation.

But, the business would continue.

This is a corporation that has recently been criticised for ignoring allegations of much more serious wrong doings by its stars, precisely because they were big popular acts.

To suggest that they ignore allegations of a criminal act because the perpetrator is “funny” and earns them lots of money strikes me as extremely ironic.

Given the BBCs history regarding Saville, Stuart Hall, DLT, etc. its the only thing they can do.

Lots of people like to watch Top Gear all around the world.

Why should the programme they enjoy so much be cancelled because of this?

Discipline Clarkson by all means ( this would be instant dismissal in most workplaces) but the show should go on with the other two or with the addition of a guest presenter..

Maybe the executive producer and the other two key presenters said it was a load of bollocks and all refused to go ahead with the programme in protest at the way Clarkson was being treated?

But then we would be back in the area of wild supposition based on rumour in the absence of facts...

It's like the 'leaking' of a certain out-take where Clarkson mumbled something close to an offensive word, that could only have been got hold of by someone with access to the tapes... so it would also be an entirely feasible possibility that someone decided to turn a storm in a thimble in the canteen into something much larger because they were pursuing their own agenda!

Clarkson, 54, is reported to have hit Oisin Tymon, 36, after being told no dinner had been laid on for the presenters after they finished filming for the BBC2 show one evening last week.

A source told The Sun: "Jeremy had a massive bust-up with one of the male show producers and he ended up smacking him in the face. Everyone was absolutely stunned.

"It was all over a catering issue. Jeremy just saw red and hit the assistant producer, who he blamed for not having organised the food."

The Daily Mirror quoted a source saying: "They came to the end of filming after a long day and Jeremy discovered that no food had been laid on. He just saw red and hit the assistant producer, who he blamed for not having organised the food. He snapped."

A source close to Clarkson insisted he was innocent and that "he didn't punch anyone".

PREFACE: I gave up watching the current format of Top Gear several years ago on account of it being rather boring. Anyway, not letting that get in the way....

I'm not sure losing an hours programming for 12 Sundays out of the year is going to result in relaunching the Beeb, but we will wait and see.
