Mods apologies for the swearing that may or may not be blocked by the filter - it’s a direct quote by someone who abused me today.
If you voted for Brexit - you might want to know a little about what it means for some people. Today for the first time in many years I have been aggressively, racially abused. Apparently I am a “****” who “When Brexit is done you will be sent back to where you come from, you black ****.” My crime? Being parked legally, considerately and safely in a space that someone else wanted near the school.
Regardless of why people chose to vote the way they did, I am confident that because some racist, backward cretin feels braver now Brexit is on its way. Apparently he feels , “It’s my country again”. Now, I’m confident most Brexit voters are not racist - so that’s not my point.
My point is though - if this is where we are going as a country I’m going to choose to be a “****” rather than anything else. Better to be attacked for the colour of my skin than be to attacking someone else for that reason.
You may think it strange - but for sure today I’m proud of my ethnicity and feel determined to be proud of it no matter what.
where? witnesses?
Definitely report; even if nothing can be done, I want stuff like this to be recorded even if it does reflect badly on 'the country' - because unless we start to realise what we are becoming, some folk will continue to pretend it isn't creeping insidiously into the culture
Just know you are better than them. In every way.
There are fools in every walk of life.
But yes, it does seem that division is on the up in the UK in some ways.
Police call. With details of their number plate. For sure.
That's awful and I think your matter of fact way of dealing with what would have been an upsetting exchange is impressive.
I am genuinely straggered someone would speak to another human that way. It's so bad it's almost funny. Outside a school. Jeez.
Cretin is not the c word I would describe that subhuman as.
<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 16px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Just shows what a retard he is, being completely ignorant of the simple fact that Brexit or no, </span><em class="bbcode-em" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 16px; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent; color: #444444; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">nobody<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 16px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"> is being sent back to anywhere!</span>
Maybe another word might be more suitable?
Just shows what a retard he is
While we're on the subject of offensive name calling, you might not be aware that plenty of people (especially those in or associated with the learning development 'community') aren't too keen on that whole retard (or other "...tard" suffix variations) thing used as an insult.
Not having a pop, just trying to help spread awareness btw.
And on the OP, should definitely report - as well as police, there are probably more 'neutral' places in your locality that hate crimes can be reported, have a googling (for those that have issues with dealing with the police, who are often also those who are also more likely to be the victims of hate crimes in case you wondered why TF that is even a thing).
Oh, and will the EDIT function be coming back does anyone know?
Made my blood boil to even read that.
I'll be honest, I think many Leave voters do have a problem with diversity.
It might not be as in your face as that but its there, just more subtle. Even if not admitted.
Brexit has caused harm that will last for generations.
Commiserations OP. Unfortunately that's the "dream" that Brexit has sold to these* ****wits.
*(I wonder, are there any racist tossrags who voted remain? - Venn diagrams welcomed, I'm sure)
I have no qualms about the useless shit thick **** being called a retard.
I have no qualms about the useless shit thick **** being called a retard. [/quote/I may not have made my point terribly well - I wasn't questioning the language because I thought it might be considered offensive to the person it was being used to describe...
Hey jimjam, big respect for your response to being at the receiving end of such ignorance and cowardice. Unfortunately, every nation is blighted with ignorant arse holes, they need dealing with and their behaviour reported.
That's awful; shoulda filled him in.
Flaps, can't edit, apologies jamj, weirdly my autocorrect gave us jimjam?
🙂
You've had a horrible and unexpected experience today, coming face to face with raw and vicious stupidity, so I will make allowances for that and simply ask you to take into consideration:
Not all brexit voters are coming from here to take away our sense of decency and kindness.
You can tell them apart.
You should try to get to know them as individuals rather than lumping them together in some sort of convenient group.
If you get to know some of them you'll have an opportunity to enrich your life with their rich and vibrant cultures.
😉
And Yes, report the incident to police if you can. There might be little that can be done to catch/deal with the person ( unless you have their reg number ? ), but this sort of thing at the very least needs to be recorded.
Being a knob does not generally correlate with any particular voting preference.
You need to report it as (I believe) It's a public order offence. I was once called a 'fat four eyed ****' by a gamekeeper while I was on a bridleway, I told the police & they went to see him with a warning. (& told his boss)
People can't go around & get away with shit like this.
"When Brexit is done you will be sent back to where you come from"
I hope you gave the correct response!
It's really easy, but some people just seem to have a problem following lifes simple rule on a daily basis

I'm sorry you had to put up with such a small minded ****, I just hope that the sensible polite people outnumber the racist/xenophobic cock wombles because I fear that the world has started spinning backwards
Hi cranberry, hence my
Now, I’m confident most Brexit voters are not racist – so that’s not my point.
I don’t live in a bubble - I have a split amongst my friends and colleagues, so don’t have an axe to grind in that way.
Jay
There were already plenty of racists in this country before the Brexit referendum.
As above report to the police, or fill him in.
I have two things to say on this OP's abuse utter twonk that wants the book throwing at him!!
To sugerst and imply this is the view of many other brexiters is frankly insulting!!
Apologies if I got it wrong, but:
If you voted for Brexit – you might want to know a little about what it means for some people.
felt a bit blame-y from here.
Thanks to the likes of Trump i think unfortunately one of the side effects is that stupid people, racist people feel more empowered to follow their lead (feeling that can abuse, lie and not treat someone with respect.
So
1) report them to the police. If they do the same again, a weight of evidence really helps
2) if they are a parent at the same school, then i'd suggest asking for a meeting with the head
3) if neither of those get you anywhere, i'd suggest contacting your local TV news. They just love a story with such a headline.
“<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 16px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">To sugerst and imply this is the view of many other brexiters is frankly insulting!!”</span>
Oh well. It’s a basic fact backed up by polling that immigration was a (probably the) major reason people voted to leave. The fact that Leave voters also are willing to suffer significant financial loss to “take back control” backs that up.
Appalling. If possible do your best to get this reported.
I voted to leave the EU. I will not use that bastard word by the way.
However, like every other leaver I know racism was not an issue. More simply, I wish the independence to decide how we live. In the same way that I feel that my parish should decide where houses are built not the government. From an immigration point of view I have no especial bias. I'd happily see 10 million Euro immigrants, in my experience hard working types, in the country if we could loose 11 million others. (Preferably those who are costing us the most like me in a few years time.) My objection is purely that we are over full.
The racist claim by the remainers is a convenient label justified by very little. Of course there will be nasty little sods who pick on people because of their race but they will awways be here sadly, in the same way that some nasty little buggers object to accents or wealth. Spite.
No doubt I'll be hacked down for this by those who fail to see that we all have a right to speak.
Sorry you had to experience that and I can't believe the brexiters on here are jumping on you when you clearly stated you don't blame people who voted out but were simply pointing out what the result has been in the real world for you and others. A friend of mine had a very similar experience to you shortly after Brexit vote and it was brazen and in the street from a complete stranger with no provocation. This was not something he'd had happen for a very long time before. So sad.
[i]if this is where we are going as a country[/i]
Its where we’ve always been. Brexit it just the latest buzzword for these **** wits to use.
The Brexit vote is probably the worst thing to happen to this country since Thatcher was pm. What would the morning news be talking about if the vote had been remain?
<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 16px;">lumping them together in some sort of convenient group.</span>
I don't lump them all as racists, they are just one group, there are also the stupid, the selfish and the plain ignorant.
Although the 4 groups are not mutually exclusive, there's quite often some crossover.
Ben, from your article:
Nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of those who are worried about immigration voted Leave, compared with 36 per cent of those who did not identify this as a concern, the research found, showing the discrepancy in views about immigration between Remain and Leave voters.
That is nothing like saying immigration was the primary reason that people voted leave.
In general I would also caution against taking the Novaya Gazeta as a paper of record, or anything else other than a wrapper for fish and chips.
<p style="padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 16px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; line-height: 1.2em; color: #444444; margin: 1rem 0px !important;">The racist claim by the remainers is a convenient label justified by very little. It is the reported experience of many, many "foreigners"* that insulting behaviour of this sort has increased markedly since Brexit, implying strongly that the reult made some racists feel empowered to be more overtly ****ty than in former times
I admit it's only my assumption that the vast majority (and possibly entirety) of the racists we're blessed with** voted Brexit. Sorry for that one; I realise now that it was a major error
* 🙄
**(along with some actual humans, apparently :-0 )
You missed that the Independent was just reporting the results of the British Social Attitudes Survey, a very rigorous and independent survey that’s been going on for years? But sure, you attack the messenger.
I’m so done with being nice to Leave voters. You, personally, cost me about £7000 in the few days after the vote because exchange rate fall, you have made my European friends who live here feel much less safe and much less welcome, you have removed opportunities to travel and study from my daughter, you have made this country an international laughing stock, and we haven’t even left the EU yet. And all for what? To take back control that we had all along?

Well apart from being justified by the racist the OP encountered clearly being a Brexiteer and feeling empowered to express his views by the vote. Though I'm going to hack you down for paying no attention to what the OP actually wrote - he was quite clear in pointing out that he wasn't suggesting Brexiteers are all (or even mostly) racists. However the point being made is that everybody who voted Leave has helped to enable these people, as unpalatable as that may be for you. I do find it interesting how Brexiteers are always very defensive and in denial on this point.
Because there are a couple of truisms the OP didn't mention - the vast majority of racists are Brexiteers and there is a significant proportion of Brexiteers who are racist and/or xenophobic. Just because the people you know who voted Leave aren't racists doesn't mean they don't exist.
Not that you'll necessarily want it but you have my sympathy, that's a shitty thing to happen and the more I think about it the angrier it makes me.
"A friend of mine had a very similar experience to you shortly after Brexit vote and it was brazen and in the street from a complete stranger with no provocation. This was not something he’d had happen for a very long time before."
I know of three people that have been called things in the street that they've not had to suffer since the 1970's so it's far from isolated and it needs nipping in the bud. What this racist prick probably doesn't understand is that if it came down to it more people would stand against him than would ever stand alongside him.
As I suggested,an opinion contrary to that possessed by the STW mass is not allowed but is to be ridiculed.
Its hilarious that so many of those who preach love and kindness to all are so uncarrying of anyone who dares to argue. Hypocrisy rules by the looks of it.
Its easy really. If you want your views and are preaching free speech etc then you have to accept all views. If you don't then that's fair enough but do not pretend that you are such a wonderful human being as you are as narrow minded as those you object to. .
You can't have it any other way can you?
Bet a quid someone proves me correct by objecting to this post.
To the OP.
The actions you speak of were here long before Brexit, it’s just now those that use the derogatory terms use Brexit as an excuse. Just shows how deeply ingrained racism is in this county.
You could still report it, pop along tomorrow and get the offenders car reg number and description of the perpetrator and report it to the police.
Sad, but you are only going to have to do what ‘000s have done before.
And just where did I say that racists don't exist? The f wits are everywhere but so are the kiddy fondlers, thieves and speeders. Scum the lot.
Don’t you dare play the free speech argument. No-one’s arguing against your right to say what you think. What I’m arguing is that you’ve made a reckless and stupid decision that’s had real impact on millions of people. Arguing with you isn’t impinging on your free speech - free speech isn’t a right not to be argued with. You’re not being shut down, you’re not being prevented from speaking.
Crying that your free speech is being attacked is a very Farage/Trump move to play.
OP, sorry to hear what happened today, what a ****, get him reported if you can. Hope venting on here helped a little.
My Mrs. witnessed something very similar where some scrote was having a go at a local Sainsburys staff chap, telling him we'd voted out so the likes of him wouldn't be around long.
Before the Brexit vote, I had a conversation with a supposedly educated bloke at work. I asked him what he thought should happen to the 3m EU citizens working in the UK after Brexit. Answer "Send them all home". "But who will do the jobs?" I asked. "We'll train British people up to do them" was the answer.
Then there's the acquaintance who thinks that EU citizens "come over here" and get given a council house, benefits and a bonanza NHS healthcare package on day 1 at the expense of British people and veterans. "We need to look after our own first"....etc.
But hey, "The people have spoken". "Democracy" must be respected even if none of the people above are getting what they thought the vote was giving them.
Just to say, even if the vote had been remain, the bloke who abused the OP wouldv'e still abused the OP.
Can't believe no-ones slagged Mattsccm off yet!
Unfortunately, some folk feel that BREXIT legitimised these types of views. Yes, he would have been a riacist before he cast his vote. Would he have felt comfortable shouting that kind of abuse in public before the result? Who knows.
Either way, he doesn't represent me. No one should have to put up with that. Report it because it's a hate crime.
Ok, I'll say it. <span style="font-size: 0.8rem;">Though I can hardly prove it represents the whole leave vote so flame away.</span>
Ever single person I have talked to that voted Leave have either been blatantly racist or "I'm not racist BUT" types.
From the type of guy the op posted about to the type that just thinks to himself (or says) "I bet that guy only got that job on tv because he's black."
The referendum was a MASSIVE issue during the referendum. I can't believe some can deny that. Some of you guys not heard of UKIP ?!
I have no doubt, no doubt that if the votes based on prejudice could some how be filtered out the vote would have been massively different.
Flame away.
Race was a MASSIVE issue I meant!
“<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 16px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">I have no doubt, no doubt that if the votes based on prejudice could some how be filtered out the vote would have been massively different”</span>
It wouldn’t take much. It was only a 52/48 split after all.
