Has anyone else noticed the BBC Sports reports of late? BBC breakfast is the worst, but its creeping in across the board.
Firstly it was women's football, after the men's, describing the game that no one even knew was happening, like it was important!
Then women's cricket....talking about The Ashes matches that no one even knew was going on, let alone were interested!
Finally the other day, when there was so many other things to talk about, they started going on about a female arsenal player who was leaving and going to play for another team. I like football, support Arsenal, but have never heard of this woman, as the team she plays for couldn't beat the Arsenal under 15's boys team!
Absolutely nothing against women....I have three daughters and wife, but they aren't slightly interested either, so who is it aimed at?
(apologies for the lack of capitals and swear filter avoidance )
I also hate computers.
Well at least we know where the "ape" bit of your username comes from...
OP being dismissed out of hand by white knights in 5.....4....3....
so who is it aimed at?
Good question. A lot of women's boxing matches are being put high on the bill of undercards - the commentators try to sell it, but I hit FFWD every time.
To balance, the women's rugby 7s in the Olympics was brilliant. Watched loads of that.
To the OP because (wider) recognition for women's sport needs to start somewhere.
I do not read the Grauniad or Socialist Worker.
Rorschach are you still running Windows vista 😛
Edit: yay I'm a white knight according to Jamie (normally I'm the black sheep).
I also hate computers.
Bravo
It's bad enough when they talk about cycling that no one knows is going on.
Why can't they stick to football, rugby and cricket? Played by men.
I didn't even know they were on here
They're everywhere.
Watching.
Waiting.
Sometimes I see TV shows, news reports or even entire websites about things I'm not interested in.

...making affordable household appliances for hardworking mums.
Chicken and egg isn't it? People are not aware of it/interested as there's no coverage and there's coverage as there's no interest/awareness. So, in my opinion rightly, they have decided to generate some interest by talking about it and showing it.
Related, did anyone else hear Sara Orchard commentating on the England-Aus rugby match at the weekend? She was absolutely brilliant.
describing the game that no one even knew was happening
the Ashes matches that no one even knew was going on
have never heard of this woman,
Can you think why you may not have been aware of these events?
Come on you 'Spurs.
I am trying to see the OP's point but I really can't. I have little interest in women's football, just as I have little interest in men's curling or any form of horse dancing.
But I am not the BBC's target audience, I am a consumer of information they share being a news outlet and some other people will be much more interested in reading about women's football or judo or sailing than they would be about road racing or Leeds United or The Ashes or F1.
EDIT: However, I have found myself getting interested in some of the women's events (especially when 'we' are doing well. For example, I have started to read a few articles about the women's Ashes tour.

It's just as important as men's sport. And surely if no-one knew it was happening, that's a great reason to tell everyone about?
A true sports lover is interested in any sport, doesn't matter what gender is playing it.
I think the first rule before posting subjects like this is to at least make a small attempt to understand the contrary view. Might be enlightening

Is she the woman who was doing the pitch-side punditry? She was good, better than many others I've seen doing it.
OP, they're doing it on purpose to wind you up specifically.
Bastards.
See, the thing about Arsenal is they always try to walk it in.
The womans English team gets more highlighted coverage than the Scottish premier league. Nothing to do with them being female, just that they are English. The BBC is biased.

Not sure, she was doing the main commentary though. I thought she was brilliant, picked up a few things the no-one else did, was very knowledgeable and generally did the job well. Irrelevant of her sex, she was as good a commentator as I've heard for a while.

[troll]Rightly so, they want to show elite sport not 3rd or 4th tier stuff[\troll]

Oh purleese! Its not about what I like or don't like....its about what is popular. ITV sport don't do it, Sky don't do it....its just a waste of air time! Clearly you lot are not getting it....so I'm off to write to Points of View!
We need more obscure, poorly-followed sports on telly, not fewer. Bring back World of Sport and Kabbadi.
Wouldn't life be boring if we all liked the same things.
I do wonder however whether the BBC has a much bigger focus on women's sport these days not just because they want to promote excellent women's sport (which I wholeheartedly applaud) but also because the TV rights are a lot cheaper than the men's versions, prices inflated hugely out of proportion by the Murdochs & co of this world?
its just a waste of air time!
So the remit of a publicly-funded broadcaster is simply to make programmes that deliver the highest audience share?
and....
The argument that 'women are worse at the sports' is fatuous anyway, because there's been coverage for years of men's sports where the team being reported on are crap.
Scottish premier league.
Being a case in point "Celtic got beaten in Europe. Again"
so who is it aimed at?
Women who play sport? A demographic that is well worth increasing...
There's also lots of stuff on the BBC that I'm not interested in.
Not sure why I should be pissed off about it though?
well, this is awkward.
think you might have outed yourself as someone who watches BBC breakfast 😳
I’m glad of the extra coverage of Women’s Rugby and Cricket.
Bring back World of Sport and Kabbadi.
+1
Kabbadi is ace to watch.

On-one knows about the result of the latest under 11's match at my local school. Is that a good reason to tell everyone about it? 🙄
Apparently if you are a true sports lover, you should be interested. 😀
If you want to get angry about something on the BBC - how about Bargain Hunt?
That's a waste of taxpayers money if ever I saw one. And we're paying that dullard Tim Wonnacott a fortune.
Not any more, he got sacked a while ago*.And we're paying that dullard Tim Wonnacott a fortune.
*So Mrs.Pinkster tells me**.
**honest.

is this something to do with them trying to sell jimmy saville bikes a while ago?

Well, don't leave us in suspense! Match report and final score, please!
The Woodkirk Valley Under 12s had a disappointing result on Saturday: 2 - 1 down at half time but performing strongly and dominating possession, it all fell apart in the 2nd half and it ended with a 6-2 defeat.
When I'm in charge - and it must be my turn soon - all pro sports events that are gender specific would have to run parallel events for men and women, have equal prize money, pay, sponsorship and media coverage.
If we have it, they will come. So to speak.
If you want to get angry about something on the BBC - how about Bargain Hunt?
Yeah but they've only ever shot 14 episodes of that, which they repeat on an endless loop and no one notices.
See also Grand Designs.
Saying you have no interest in the mass media's coverage of a sport because you have never heard of the people involved, and didn't know the event was taking place, is like telling your Doctor you're not interested in the result of your medical scan because you' weren't aware you were ill and have never heard of the illness. Either watch it and learn something, or turn it off. TBH I don't care either way.

Best game ever! I was also quite keen on Sumo as a kid when C4 used to have it on.
Never seen a womens' team for either of those, so that should keep the OP happy 🙂

Plus Dion Dublin is now on Homes Under the Hammer, which adds to the over-representation of the men's game on the BBC.

Me too! I may have dreamed it, but I remember a fair bit of Ozzie Rules football cropping up when I was younger, which was also a lot more entertaining than most sports.
Shinty doesn't get nearly enough coverage. There's a sport.
Hockey for people that don't like their teeth.
