looking at comparison sites it is a choice of a forum favourite, Plusnet or John Lewis. Does anyone have experience of J.L. ??

Yes, switched to JL some 6 months ago.ย  Cheaper than Sky whom I'd been with for a good few years for phone and broadband only.ย  No drama hurrah apart from them forgetting to start the service on the switch day.

John Lewis broadband is just a rebranded version of Plusnet.

... which will both be BT Wholesale anyway if you're looking at ADSL rather than FTTC.

Does anyone change their provider each year, out of interest?

John Lewis may be Plusnet rebranded, but the difference is you'll wait at least 20 min to get through to Plusnet on the phone, John Lewis answer almost immediately.

In fact the Plusnet adds boil my p***, crap speeds, crap service.

A lot of the better deals involve signing up for longer than 12 months, I think they've taken a leaf out of the mobile phone contract book.

That said if they change thier T&C's or price or service level mid contract then that's a get out of jail card as it's not what you initially signed up to.

I was always happy with plusnet, same product as BT but cheaper unless you want extras like TV etc.

And my usage wasn't throttled which is a big selling point, currently with virgin on a 100mb connection but it's pointless as they throttle the life out of the connection for P2P etc ย so I may as well have a 20mb connection.

Pretty much, there's usually a deal around. I've never had a problem with any of them, except TalkTalk letting some rotters have my personal details. Their broadband worked fine.
