out of control relay seems likely. if it happens when you dip your clutch, when stopped or at slow speeds first check would be to see if any wires go from the clutch pedal to the back of the dash? Also, presumably it happens when out of gear (stopped) so could it be brake related? A relay to the brake lights? If its speed related, try to think of what functions are altered by speed, a few i can think of would be that annoying turnin the stereo down thing when you slow, wipers that get faster as you do? lights again?

Filing that could be a gearbox issue since it only happens when th drive is disengaged?

Best thing i can offer is isolate the circumstances that cause the noise, then try to isolate where the noise is coming from then repair/ replace what ever is causing the noise. or turn the stereo up.

Is there still a panel of relays that you can change like fuses? If so, find it, listen to it and see which one it is. Then look it up in the Haynes book.

Middle of the dash? Like an indicator click but faster? Indicator stalk needs replacing

its the passenger side of the dash, from what sounds like behind it. Only when the clutc is down and only at very low speeds. The garage said it was the dual mass flywheel, spoke to skoda UK and they agreed to pay half the repair bill (the car is four years old). I'll be proper pissed if this is another sizeable bill

Hmmm, be interested to know the answer to this one as our Golf Plus (1.9TDi) has a similar knocking noise that sounds like its in the glove box. We haven't really investigated much though. Only issue with the car is that the climate control is a bit erratic...given this thread, could be linked to the knocking.

nuke, if the climate control is eratic it may pay to get someone to look at the aircon compressor, if it self destructs it will be expensive. I seem to remember that the aircon clutch can work loose just a matter of tightening a bolt, unless it comes off in which case things break.

Okay, cheers. The air con works it just more that if you set it to 20deg it might be seem cooler when driving fast on A roads and motorways but then in built up traffic it then gets too warm....its hard to regulate the temperature on a journey involving both fast and slow speed driving!
