Didn't work.
Trained on T34s so when taken to a battlefield and presented with a choice of Panther/Tiger/Kugelwagon/T34 they went straight for the T34.

Really daft question but that shuttle in the first image appears to be identical to the current US Space Shuttles - have I missed something or was the design ripped off and used by Russia? Or has there been some arrangement made and the US has sold/given Russia a shuttle?

Some real cool looking stuff in this thread...thanks for posting the pics!

That was Buran, which was a wholly Soviet design. It only flew once, in 1988 when it completed an unmanned launch and landed safely under automation.

There are a few differences, notably that Buran is considerably smaller than the shuttle and lacks the manoeuvring engines at the rear. The similarities to the shuttle are largely coincidental, given that like the shuttle, Buran was designed to glide to a suitable runway after re-entry.

sorry I thought you had a sense of humour

re similaritoes they will be as you attach a glider to a huge rocket not that much scope for innovation of design really. Bit like arguing all subs look similiar.

You really are a bitter little man Woppit. Junkyard responded to your completely pointless post with a harmless but fairly amusing comment. Instead of leaving it, you keep returning with more snidey and sneering comments. You appear to be determined to make an issue out of nothing. Any chance of growing up in 2011 ?

Meanwhile.........I'm surprised no one has mentioned the MIR Space Station [img] [/img]

Russian Roulette

Even though Russian Roulette is a gambling game it has no affiliation with the casino Roulette game, though some might say it has some similarities like spinning the roulette wheel. Russian roulette can be a very lethal game of chance that can lead to Russian Roulette suicide if luck is not on your side.

The way this dangerous game is played is usually with a six shot revolver giving the players a 1 in 6 chance of staying alive equaling out to about 84%. How the game works is that the player will place one bullet into the chamber of the revolver and spin the cylinder not knowing the location of the round. Then the player will take turns placing the muzzles against their heads and pulls the trigger. Some people say that as soon as the cylinder is spun, the weight of the bullet is likely stay on the bottom of the cylinder increasing the blank shots.

Stories from the past say that the invention of Russian Roulette came from Russian soldiers and took place in Russia. It is said to be that in the 19th century prison guards bet on the Russian prisoners while forcing them to play the game. Another story that is told is that the desperate and suicidal army officers played the game to impress one another.

... with which you decided to join in, rather than "leave it". But then, what WOULD the new year be like without the profound insights of our resident professor of all that is Important (if only in his own head).

Don't quite understand how when he does it, it's amusing but when I do it, it's "bitter"...

Ok let me try - Do you think anyone thinks that is you or your wife in the picture? NO so how could it be seen as an attack on you rather than just a "caption" to a funny picture you posted?
I assume the phrase "smart guy" was directed directly at me to imply I was not smart. Even then I only replied by saying sorry I thought you had a sense of humour - again hardly bitter. Stalin was a bit random but I assume it was not flattering what with stalin being a despot, nutter and a mass murderer. So the caption followed by an apology was not enough for you and you cariied on appearing to be bitter/insulting over a little caption and making something out of nothing.
Not sure why you need this explaining but hope I have helped you get it.

that Firefox doesn't count, it's Hollywood fiction

but this exists - the fastest production interceptor ever built AFAIK
[img] [/img]

Developed to intercept a US bomber that never made it past prototype, the XB70 Valkyrie - which is equally amazing:

what were we saying about Gerry Anderson?

๐Ÿ™‚

just noticed, the XB70 photo above is a photo of someone's 1/48 scale scratch built model of one. apparently the model is over 4 feet long ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

a 1/48 Spitfire, by contrast, is about 8-9in long
