That flying ground effect boat thing, I'm sure someone is desperate to post a pic so I won't spoil it for them.

How about the nuclear powered plane they flew in the 50's/60's. Most of the crews died from radiation related illness.

How about the Tsar Bomba?

[img] [/img]

An attenuated yield of 50 megatons of TNT and to quote wikipedia...

...average power produced during the entire fission-fusion process, lasting around 39 nanoseconds[citation needed], was about 5.4×10^24 watts or 5.4 yottawatts (5.4 septillion watts). This is equivalent to approximately 1.4% of the power output of the Sun.[8]

Lordy! 😯

Someone mentioned one of those (ZIL-29061) on STW recently. Should be good enough for this thread 🙂

Super cavitating torpedo.

Probably what caused the explosion that sank the Kursk.

I posted this last year in a daft tank thread. It's pre-soviet, but still barking. I believe they only made the one 🙂

Remains of the VVA-14 always remind me of this below, which although as far from Russia as you get, still reminds us that out of the box engineering is alive and well.

I've always been impressed with Russian power boots. And they are no gimmick, they actually work - top speed of 22mph & 70 miles per gallon. Originally intended for military use.

Right,

I have no interest in cars whatsoever, but I MUST have myself a Volga Coupe!

Where? How much?

The more of these that get posted the more I think that Soviet design was inspired by Gerry Anderson with an unlimited budget.

They we made right up until 1981. Although I believe that the twin exhaust through the rear bumper is a corrosion nightmare.

Love those trucks that race the Dakar, seriously want one. Also love the Sukhoi and Mig fighters that do those amazing acrobatics like the Snakebite. Mig 29 and SU27 and 32?

sadly the Volga Coupe is a bit of a fake.. its based on a BMW 850 coupe, or later ones on the 6 series and is a chop shop style proect rather than a production car. Nice though!
