Going down to London tomorrow with my 4 and 6 year old boys to see their Gran, who is travelling up to town herself.

Arriving around 10.30 and leaving about 19.00 so need a morning and afternoon activity and somewhere fun for lunch. We've previously "done" natural history and science museums, so looking for something different this time.

Any suggestions?

GEt a 24 hour ticket on the open top bus tour. You can hop on and hop off on any of their routes. They have a guide on each bus plus a headphone guide for the kids too.

Good value.

Mine loved the London Eye at that age too, also worth looking at some of the boat trips

Knife crime? Sounds like it's a common pass-time down there?

A boat trip is always fun, and the eye would be high on my list.

+1 for both the London Eye and the open top bus tour.

Harrods can be worth a look.

This is really good - bus tour then drives into the thames and you go for a boat ride

london eye, then take the clipper down the river past all of the bridges ie tower bridge etc and the city to Greenwich, go see the observatory etc

possibly a stop off at the Tate modern (has its own stop off the boat)

all have stunning views.

if you have the time after go under the tunnel and wander round the city / canary wharf then take the docklands light railway back.

Lots on for kids during summer holidays - look at timeout.com
If weather is good and they need to burn off some steam, Kew Gardens has a tree walk (not sure if there's an age / height limit), maze at Hampton Court, adventure playgrounds.
If wet, Tate Modern and Tate Britain have special activities / tasks for kids, there are also treasure hunts around British Museum. Second the boat tours - you could also take the tube to greenwich, see the planetarium (bit advanced maybe for 4 and 6?) and take a river boat back to Westminster.

I second the ducktour, book now though cos it might be busy, my daughter of five loved it, take a coat! It starts behind the eye so you can kill two birds with one stone. Eat in covent garden, then you'll see some acts while you are there. Theres a bus also leaves from behind the eye takes ten mins to covent garden.

Just remembered - the Aquarium next door to the London Eye at City Hall is brilliant and kids love it.

London Eye, Boat Trip, Walk along the Southbank to Tate Modern (lots of street performers), London Aquarium.

Also might be worth going to the Monument for another amazing view.

Aquarium is in the old City Hall next to the Eye.

Oh and get an Oyster card if you don't want to pay through the nose for travel.

Tate Britain does some great stuff for kids. Well worth a look. You can also get a boat from the Eye to the pier at Tate Britain.

Stop of at my office. I'm sure your kids would do a better job than some of the people I have working for me!

go to Trafalgar Square, then down the Mall, towards Buckingham Palace, explain to the kids that a Queen lives there, that we pay her and her family milions of pounds a year to live in luxury, while people are haveing their home repoed, that non of her family have done any worthwhile job, eg industry or science.

Then every summer she buggers off to Scotland and charges us the public who pay for it all,to go in and have a look around.

She hasnt even got the decency to leave the kettle on, for a cuppa.

You could explain she is also descended from Herman the German, who we had 2 world wars with. And we won.

London Eye in the morning,
grab lunch and catch a boat to Greenwich
Round the maritime museum & observatory
tea in Greenwich and boat back in time to leave London

Or go up Tower Bridge
Or take out a bank loan and go to Hamleys

If it's for the kids only London Zoo, they've actually made some effort and spent some money on the place http://www.zsl.org/zsl-london-zoo/exhibits/animal-adventure/

The Zoo is now very good. Even better, if you go to Camden lock (which is fun too) you can get a canal boat to a special entrance instead of lining up outside with the masses.

+1 for london eye if not done before, you can also wander down the riverfront past royal festival hall etc, maybe then across bridge to wander through covent garden piazza for cafes.
ON NO ACCOUNT consider madame tussauds- its expensive dogsh1te of the highest order.
