Used really like his stuff back in the day - as a budding young artist really like his brother’s sleeve designs too. I managed to find a huge billboard sized poster for Sweet Bird if Truth at a record fair that ended up dominating my teenage bedroom - I think because everything I had was on vynil (or VHS - the video album for Infected was great) nothing really migrated on to my iPod / phone over the years and had all sort of been forgotten about. Really enjoying listening to it all again recently with fresh ears though

Big fan here, Matt Johnson is a genius song writer. Soul Mining is probably my favourite album and I think he was 24 when he recorded it. Seen them live a couple of times back in the day, very good. Last time with Johnny Marr on the Mind Bomb tour which was brilliant.

Used to love them when I was a teenager. He was on Radio6 last year and the political message in his 80s songs is very relevant today.

i've seen him a few times and he was brilliant every time- his songs were always re-arranged depending on his band,     I think some of his earlier stuff sounds dated musically but prophetic lyrically.

I remember seeing them at the Leadmill in Sheffield in the early 1980s. TBH I can't remember much about it, didn't realise they were still going.

I saw him with Johnny Marr on the Mind Bomb tour at the Roysl Albert Hall.
There’s a you tube video of the whole gig.
Still love This is the day.

Saw him years back, Soul mining is such a great album. This is the day - excellent song (think I've got the 7" of it in my singles collection)

Just listening to this from 1986

'Well it ain't written in the papers, but it's written on the wallsThe way this country is divided to fall

So the cranes are moving on the skyline Trying to knock down this town

But the stains on the heartland, can never be removedFrom this country that's sick, sad, and confused

The ammunition's being passed and the lords been praised But the wars on the televisions will never be explained

All the bankers gettin' sweaty beneath their white collars As the pound in our pocket turns into a dollar

This is the 51st state of the U.S.A.

Was. Can't really get interested in stuff I was listening to back in the 80s/90s now though. Too much new stuff.

Gonna have to read this book, see what all this nostalgia crap is about (I just know the Amazon link will be a lord of gobbeldegook)

I've been a fan for about twenty five years; saw him/them live in Portsmouth in '92 or so - 'Dusk' and 'Mind Bomb' both on my favourite albums shelf!

I regularly revisit Infected, Dis-infected and Soul Mining.

Dusk was a miss for me, will try again.

Still love TheThe after being introduced to them/him in the late 80's . Soul Mining is one of my favourite albums and regularly gets a listen. I don't know anyone else who likes them/him though.

Zippy. Does the single version have Jools Holland on the piano?

Happy 1980’s memories of driving down through  France following tdf, past sunflower fields in a t2 camper van listening to soul mining on the tape deck, perfect, still love that album
