Are you talking about SaxonRider's input? Did he talk about that?
More frankconways interpretation of said.
But if he'd stayed dead the date wouldve been less significant

It's all a figment of our collective imagination, pagan, christain, hindu, muslim, none of it exists without us to perpetuate it. No other creature on earth worships a god...
@cheesybeanZ....Im not a betting man ..but time is rapidly running out for your prediction ..😁
Oh and ..yes please if you have any left !
Yeah but Easter is a bank holiday, I thought it was something to do with Lloyds/TSB...was Jesus an investment banker.
Happy Easter, Folks!

A Great Man, significant in the story of The Enlightenment, was cremated yesterday.
There are SOME deaths that deserve acknowledgement.
Then on the other hand...
according to a kid at my kids’ school – the easter bunny died in a helicopter crash to save mankind.
That's how this sort of nonsense starts.
In 2000 years perhaps someone, who translated the original text message, will be on a thread here to explain it to people.
Happy Easter.
A proper religious debate would be interesting but this is like listening to kids talk about sex.
Tbh, I find your insistance that people discuss things on your terms or not at all equally as unhelpful.
It fails to take into account the inevitability of human nature, something you seem determined to ignore at every opportunity.
However, it does give you a claim to the moral highground, if that's your purpose (not saying it is, just pointing it out).
But as an aside, blond hair was not unique, Alexander the Great and Ptolemy was supposed to be blond and he may have sowed a few seeds in the area.
Supposed to be hair like a lion’s mane. Standing for bravery. Which Ptolemy are you talking about? And I’ve never heard a suggestion that Jesus was descended from Alexander. 😂

like the mis-translation of the word "pascha"
Jesus said he would be in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights. you can't fit 3 days and 3 nights between good friday and easter sunday.
It's hard to have an objective debate about religion because it's so emotive. People have family and loved friends who have passed away who are in heaven, or so they believe. To deny Jesus is to deny God and therefore the existence of an afterlife. For me though and my limited experience of life on this Earth I understand that people don't just return from the dead, it's quite clearly nonsense and therefore the whole religion is based on a lie. My Op was meant to amuse not offend, if you took offence then that's your issue. We shouldn't be scared to raise debate for fear of causing offence.

And you are dismissing a whole religion because returning from the dead is nonsense? Slightly narrow view...
I dreamt last night that Keith Richards had died and that I'd have to tell my friend, who just bought tickets to their next concert
Perhaps he was on my mind given the number of times he'd risen from the dead.
Emphasis: Keith is still with us.
nah, the resurrection is just one of a number of Christian events which are quite clearly bunkum.
And you are dismissing a whole religion because returning from the dead is nonsense? Slightly narrow view…
Why is this a narrow view? are you suggesting that the christ resurrection being false is only a trivial problem to christianity? Seems obvious to me that if you dont believe the account then you wont believe he is the son of god and therefore cannot be a christian . This is quite a big deal rather than a "narrow view"
IMHO better to not have these threads at xmas and Easter.
To those who believe Happy Easter.
My Op was meant to amuse not offend, if you took offence then that’s your issue.
Thing is if you ridicule a religion, you ridicule those that have faith in that religion. The two things are inseparable in my view. Why would you do that, it isn't remotely funny. As someone said like children talking about sex !!
Can I just check something? We are still allowed to rip the piss out of the flat earthers?
Thing is if you ridicule a religion, you ridicule those that have faith in that religion
The thing about faith though, is that it’s pretty much immune from ridicule.
That’s why I’m not even slightly offended by the OP or any other post on this thread.
Also, I’m a massive fan of ridicule as it happens......as long as it’s good natured and not intended to cause offence, which is a line that often seems to get crossed on these types of thread.
Jesus said he would be in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights. you can’t fit 3 days and 3 nights between good friday and easter sunday.
Depends on who your dad is.
Oh, I see. Nepotism so he can clock in and out at dodgy times. Sweet racket!
intended to cause offence
I have to say being told i am a sinner destined for hell is not the nicest thing I will ever hear from someone. Both sides views offend each other but only one side are required to forgive and turn the other cheek 😉
Happy Easter still. Can we really not give them a break at Easter?

As as long as the abuse on the Corbin and Brexit is tolerated I feel that any censorship of religious threads would be massively hypocritical. Especially in light of most religions views of 'rival' brands.
Why is this a narrow view?
Because you can be a Christian without taking every bit of the bible literally.
It's Easter Sunday and neither Ben Hur or Spartacus is on tele.
LOL at someone trying to argue for religion, you're a tryer thats for sure.
Happy spring fertility get your willy out day, weather should improve soon.
Because you can be a Christian without taking every bit of the bible literally.
Get rid rid of the miracles. Get rid of God. Make it about a really nice guy telling people to be nice to each other. Get the Church to use its wealth in a more responsible manner...
... sign me up chaps.
Both sides views offend each other
Unfortunately, being religious and being a dick are not mutually exclusive states of being.
see also : being an atheist and being a dick.
True
I often have a discussion about genetics with a [ muslim] friend who gets hysterical [ comedically for effect but she means it] about there being no way she comes from a monkey - she finds that offensive FWIW
It’ll be interesting to see whose brave enough to kick off the mohammed bashing thread come ramadan time…
The difference is that just about everyone contributing to this thread was born and raised in a Christian society and had it inflicted on us through our upbringing to some degree. Mainly to quite a large degree if born in the 60s or 70s. Religious songs and prayers to start the day in school, don’t forget to pray before bed, prayers and church events in Scouts, the Xmas and Easter stories in detail every year, and yes, Ben Hur et al every religious holiday. How many of us wished desperately for the end of Songs of Praise or Highway with Harry Secombe so that the TV might start showing something watchable on the three channels? 😁 Most on here will have had religious rites practised on them before they were old enough to say no, and will have married in a Christian rite because it’s the norm in this society. But we don’t know enough about Christianity to hold an opinion according to the Christians on here. (Many of whom will rarely have thought deeply about their faith.)
And it continues. All three of my kids have come home from school with religious conviction at some point. Weird isn’t it - it’s not meant to be taught, but somehow it is.
Go and be offended somewhere else, in short, because this is our own culture that we are supposedly being offensive about.
there being no way she comes from a monkey
She is right

Yep, being forced to sing hymns and sit through religious assemblies, harvest festivals, take part in nativities etc makes me feel I’ve earned the right to take the piss. I was also christened (thanks parents) so technically a self hating Christian too!

Indeed I can never fathom why people find the idea of common ancestors so hard to understand.

why wait?
Just to dispel a couple of straw men:
There seems to be a notion held by a couple of people that discussing Christianity is fair game and discussing Islam is verboten on here. This is simply a lie. The only difference is that the denizens of STW are largely whiny middle-class cockbags white males who are either Christian to some degree or have been exposed to Christianity during their upbringing so know more about it (or think they do). You want to start a thread about Islam, fill your boots.
I've just read through the discussion so far and despite the cries of "Christianity bashing" there seems to be a healthy and interesting debate going on, aside from the arguably inflammatory OP and a couple of the usual suspects being bell-ends about it. I could delete those comments but then we're into the realms of censorship and special privilege for religion, neither of which I'm comfortable with. Besides which, if someone chooses to be offensive, is it not better to leave them to show themselves up rather than cover for them? (TBH, it's a difficult call sometimes, and personal abuse is a different matter.) If this thread had taken a different direction I'd have closed it (and still will if we can't play nicely).
@SaxonRider thanks for the history link. It's a very long read, I'll have a look through it when I've got more time. Fact-checking memes is always a good idea.
there being no way she comes from a monkey
It's believed that apes and humans are both descended from a common answer. The idea that humans descended from apes is a fallacy. (See also, "if humans descended from apes, why do we still have apes?")
We went our separate ways from chimps about 9 million years go
That's debatable in some cases.
"It’ll be interesting to see whose brave enough to kick off the mohammed bashing thread come ramadan time…"
Tell you what- if Ramadan is accompanied by a 2-month-long festival of retail excess and overconsumption, and ultimately has nothing to do with the first revelation and everything to do with selling chocolate Imams in Tesco, 3 for a fiver (and they turn out to be the exact same mould as the reindeer), then I'll make fun of it just the same as I make fun of easter.
Personally I'd love to see all other faiths become as watered down and de-religion-ised as british Christianity though.
HMMmm chocolate Imam
That’s debatable in some cases.
??????
I thought we were all descended from fish that grew feet’n’stuff, and the whole monkey thing was a half way house.
Though personally I have a lot in common with an orangutan. Mackerel? Less so
