Grew up in the North Notts coalfield, Cotgrave, Hucknall, Calverton, Eastwood etc, now all gone. Always had an interest in the industry, old man was a Bevan Boy along with his brothers.
Set in Kellingley, Yorkshire, UK's last deep pit, incredible to think its the last.
Still remember the Miners strike era, when Ruddington and surrounding area was teeming with Met Police spending the overtime.
Like watching something from another era.
Fascinating, check it on iPlayer.
We still bear the scars of our mining past down here in Cornwall.
Camborne School of Mines is still going and South Croft is test drilling when they are not in administration....
Quite interesting the decline from one of the richest counties to the poorest.... we're still mineral rich down here but no one want to put money behind digging it out, they would rather import tin and copper.
