Just type that on either side of the text

You can also use the quote button - clicking it once brings up the first quote, clicking it again brings up the end quote with the slash.

Or, just type it to start off.

Remember though:
Start of text - no slash quote.
End of text - slash quote

You can then click preview to check your handiwork:

I always just highlight and copy the text I want to quote, paste it into the response box, go to the beginning and click Quote, go to the end and click Quote.

But, how do you do that quoting where you just choose bits which misrepresent the overall argument or ignore the things you cannot answer?

Sometimes, on my phone, even when I have placed the "quote" correctly,
it displays what I have typed as the quote.....pah.
I usually then type the quote in manually - is that ok with you? ๐Ÿ™‚

Does no-one else use the Singletrack Forum Extender Tools bolt-on for Chrome? Allows 1 click quotes of previous posts, saving the need to "copy & paste". Also has added bonus of being able to block certain posters ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that we've got the hang of quotes, lets get the hang of hanging quotes.

Hanging punctuation or exdentation is a way of typesetting punctuation marks and bullet points, most commonly quotation marks and hyphens, so that they do not disrupt the 'flow' of a body of text or 'break' the margin of alignment.

You didn't explain how to copy and paste the text you want to quote. Without that people are doomed to retype the text.

For bonus points, explain how to do that on a phone ๐Ÿ˜€

[quote=bearnecessities said]I'll be damned if I'm explaining how to copy and paste.

The quote button on the Singletrack Chrome extension is great.

The best thing is obviously blocking anything jambalaya says, but that's another thread.

Images is hard though.

Thats a special site feature that only gets unlocked if you have a 'P'. Thats why Fast Haggis has no idea how to do it.

Me too, especially if you are not honoured with a 'P' by your name.
