How long before a tory politician blames the team for being too "woke" or too brown?

Sorry but Southgate got everything wrong tonight

He probably could have done some things differently. Perhaps better. Good on Saka for stepping up. Southgate is thoughtful, perhaps a bit cautious but he didn't get as much wrong as Kuipers, for me. So.

up 25% every time england play and up 35% if they lose.

Southgate possibly needed to change the set up earlier in the second half than he did.
Sako may not be ready for that level of football yet.
It was a good tournament and being honest, overall the best team won.

And England didn’t?

They didn't commit blatantly deliberate fouls like Italy did no.

It was a good tournament and being honest, overall the best team won.

Agreed.

Never mind you, what’s the wife got

For once, I’m up on Mrs Binners. I bet on a draw at 90 minutes at 0-0 or 1-1, bet on Italy to win the tournament and Engerland to go out on penalties

So I’m quids in and I’m absolutely gutted. Would happily have lost the lot for an Engerland win

Surprised Sterling and Grealish didn't take penalties. I think Southgate was too cautious but I think Italy were the better side overall.

Bringing on lads in a euro final simply to take a spot kick was always going to be a terrible move. And so it proved..

Gutted for England fans, but I think they can't feel too hard done by looking back over the past 2 weeks

I had a few quid on Italy to win, plus the result to be decided on penalties, so whilst id rather see England win (and I'm scottish) at least I'm a few quid up.

I guess England needs to wait for another 55 - 57 years to move another step up to win the Euros.

But they did dive for a pen against denmark - and dive repeatedly just like every other football team

Oh well it wasn’t 0-0 but I feel somewhat vindicated. Who the hell gives the deciding penalty to a 19 year old?

Nae luck.

England have been superb, Southgate doesn't deserve any of that dobbery up there, he looked for 45 minutes like he'd played a blinder, but it wasn't to be.

I'm glad Italy won, as I don't want to listen to the pure bilge that would have followed.

They had their reasons but it's too late now to rationalise the decision.

At the end of the day if you don't win you are not the champion, simple.

You can say anything about the Italians etc but they are the champion and they have the determination.

Italians got the result by whatever means. Well done Italiano ... but I am still unimpressed with their coffee though.

They did yup, but if they don't they are at a serious disadvantage.

I've never seen an England player do anything like as cynical as Chiellini's grab on Saka, and frankly if they did I'd want/expect them to get sent off. The tackle on Grealish was even worse.

You’ve got to give your penalty takers a bit of a warm up. 5 mins of tense defence isn’t the right way to introduce the players to the pitch/atmosphere/crowd/situation etc and expect them to perform.
Shame cos England didn’t look shite for a short while.

To be fair he's been an elite level footballer probably since he was 12 so he must know how to kick a ball. It's the pressure you can't replicate.

Not.Even.In.The.Same. Universe. Your tartan goggles can't be that thick can they. Italy practically invented shithousery. For me Chielini nearly decapitating Saka wasn't it. It was Chielini half fouling Sterling and Bonucci doing the other half. If one did both it's a pen. They know it. It's what makes them so good.

Hard luck. Disappointed for the England fans here. Didn’t have a dog in the fight but would have been delighted for them if they’d done it. Just put my 8 year old to bed crying while the Argentinian next door (He’s clearly had a good weekend) is literally banging things around the room. Tried telling him, “try supporting Ireland matey…” Just gutting all round.

Come on TJ, you have to admit Italy were allowed to be cynical.
But, I do think part of the refs problem was Kane and Sterling going down very easily in previous games. Ref may have thought they were play acting in this game….which they did occasionally.
But pretty much as soon as Italy lost the ball in extra time they fouled England. A couple of those being contentious yellow cards.

If they had, it would have been overturned. There was contact, he went down. Forced the decision. Different thing

Nahhh ... diving is an art and also entertaining.

At the end of the day it is the result that counts.

Southgate is a decent manager & even more of a decent human being. However, I do think he left it too late to bring the substitute penalty takers on. Can’t complain at the result, Italy bossed it.

Well done Pickford. England’s best player today.

Would like to see him catch a ball occasionally instead of keeping it in play.

For some. I'd take a losing england over a winning Italy any day of the week

Kane dives alot. Commentators won't say it.

Bringing on Rashford and Sancho so late to take pens was a mistake. Ideally they could have done with a few more mins. Saying that I prob would have picked both of them for pens out of who was on the field.

I would have picked Grealish over Sako for last one.

They lost it by not pressing home the advantage in the first half. Same as the Denmark game. Italy were always going to figure it out, but Southgate’s conservatism let them back into it.
