Can someone please make a Fabia estate sized thing that is a) not made by VAG b) has real world 250 mile range and c) not made by VAG
Woz wrong with VAG, I'd rather buy from them than Geely Motors...
Anyways, I'm still e curious & looking at Cupra Born V2 with the 77kW battery, aside from dodgy screen any reasons not to?

Shonky reliability, some really really shit design details when it comes to maintaining, premium price for less than premium cars (even Skoda and Seat).
I've owned (takes deep breaths) - 'breadvan' Polo, Cordoba Vario, Passat estate, Touran, Leon, Ibiza and Fabia. None, apart from the Cordoba and Polo have lasted as long without significant trouble as the 323f, Yaris, Galaxy or V70 that have been our other cars.
I buy second hand and run till dead usually. YMMV.

We have a born v3 58kWh. Really nice car to drive.
Only thing I don't like is the middle vents don't have an adjustment knob to turn them off. Minor thing really.
As ours was an ex demonstrator car, the 12v battery needed replacing as it was stood still for long periods without being driven.but I think this is a thing with most ev

happy with mine.
I have had an EV6 for nearly 3 years and love it. Quiet, comfortable, loads of room, well-spec’ed and decent mileage/range (anything from 2.9 - 3.9 m/kEhr, depending on temperature and speed).
I would gladly have another one.
if buying used, check if the ICCU has been changed and the state of the 12V battery.
Would also look at Ioniq 5 in that price range, bit cheaper than an EV6 overall. Genesis GV60 also possible

No problems with the screen, it works well. Touch controls on the steering wheel aren't an issue either.
When my egolf needs replacing I would definitely look at another cupra.
check if the ICCU has been changed
I don't think that matters. If anyone doesn't know, this is the charging control unit that causes a lot of failures on Hyundai Ioniq 5/6/9 (not sure about others) and the Kias on that platform. Many have been replaced but the new part is the same as the old one so doesn't really help. There have been a few software updates to deal with it, Hyundai have just released one they reckon will fix it. Also the warranty on that specific part has been extended to 15 years.

when my wife’s ICCU went (on her Inster, not herself) the new part apparently had a different part number and was not the same as the original, so we hope it will last longer than the 6months we got from the first one. Not sure if this is true or just the service dept trying to palm us off. I think initially they were replaced like for like but hopefully now they are changing them out for something different.
Had one of the "first drive" tests in a Kia EV2 today. Impressive little car and felt more suited to bigger trips than the Inster we tried last month. Basically a truncated EV3 with simpler rear suspension.
Only the well specced small battery First edition available at the moment. Other models later in the year, but they are offering a grant equivalent £3750 discount on the Air & GT if ordered before end of June. 61kWh Air would probably be our choice as it has fewer gadgets and smaller wheels / taller tyres so a smidge more efficient and hopefully less motorway tyre noise.
Want to try the Skoda Epiq before making a decision later in the year or maybe hanging out for a pre-reg / nearly new one.
So we took the ev6 out for a spin. First time either of us have driven an ev. We both liked it. Very easy to drive, quiet and perfectly brisk.
part of me thinks I should really drive other cars before making a choice but the other part is thinking - surely they’re all much of a muchness and this one is perfectly fine so let’s just buy it
I drove an EV6, an Ionic 5 a BMW M4 and a Jaguar iPace when it came to decision time for our recent car. The BMW was the best overall, but the Jaguar won my heart. It suffers on range and charging to the others, but it’s a better car. I found the Ionic to be little better than the Jaguar on range and with a much worse interior. The EV6 left me utterly cold. Air suspension and 16 way adjustable heater and cooler seats are a game changer!
Were idly wondering what to swap our Mercedes eqc for in the next few months.
If I'm going through the cost of changing cars then it really needs a much better range, the merc will do 220 to 230 miles in warm ish weather.
Things like a long range ford explorer will do 250 miles, which doesn't seem worth spending the extra money for.
An ioniq 6 looks good value, but I don't think I'd get 2 bikes in the boot.
Budget up to 30k for a year or so old with lowish miles.
Incidentally the wbac valuation for the merc has increased by nearly 2k in the last 3 weeks.

Ah, that's good to know. But I think maybe the Inster is a different platform to the 5/6?
Anyone with an ID7 got the OEM folding tow hitch installed? If so do you have a bike rack and which one if you do. I understand the position of the cable connection can make some incompatible.
ID7 with tow hitch here 🖐️
I'm using a Thule Velocompact and the socket is snug, but works just fine. There's certainly more space than the BMW I had before. I tend to plug it in before putting the rack on the hitch to minimise grub transfer from bumper to sleeves.
Cool, thank you. The velo compact is one of the racks I've been looking at (I think this is what Volvo sell as their 3 bike rack so also available discounted).
Just started looking to swap cars for the other half. I've used EVs through work for the last few years.
Looking at the Enyaq facelift SE L 60.
Not sure anything else gives the same boxy boot space for bikes and dogs with a half decent range.
No need for the 85. I think we could probably do 85% of our charging needs for that car on a 3 pin 10A charger. Seems pointless to lug around an extra £5k of battery just for the occasional long trip.
Very likely to be a long term purchase and get driven until it dies
We have a 24 plate Enyaq 60 and it is an excellent car, and it works for us, well my wife, who does next to no miles, but a word of caution, in the winter we struggle to get 140 out of it. Now my wife enjoys heated this that and the other, and uses them all, but its a VW and their quoted range is a figment of their imagination.
Same year and version of Enyaq and I've bored this thread with my findings...not quite as grim as 140, I was between 160-170 miles in the proper cold.
I like the car, I'd like a bit more power (although that would likely impact range as I'd no doubt end up developing a heavier right foot - and that isn't good for anyone) but I really want more range. If I had a home charger it wouldn't be an issue...but I don't and if I can't manage to get it charged whilst I'm sitting at my desk then it isn't quite as convenient...but I'm aware I'm not a standard user.
Due to be returned next March and I'm not sure what I'll look at...maybe a MG4 as I'm not sure I'm needing as much size...likely to be me and bike dismantled in back (would love an EV van but the range in them is even worse).
Sorry, havering on again...another evening in the office on my own!
I have the Elroq 85 which has the bigger battery. It's still pretty chilly here in Scotland but a 100% charge is given me 300 miles
In the depths of winter I was getting 240 miles
Thanks for the feedback folks. Wife has enough experience with EVs to know not to boost the cabin temp too high and it comes with heated seats and steering wheel. It's definitely better to heat the person rather than the space.
Even if it drops to 140, only using between 20-80% still gives 80 miles. She's very unlikely to do more than that in a day and we can top it back up over night. Bigger trips on occasion, we'll just suck up the cost of public fast charging. The extra £5k for the bigger battery really doesn't seem worth it.
Finally joined the club last week and picked up a year old Puma Gen-E as a run around to replace my motorbike because the kids were started to want lifts to places, and Mrs P has gone back to work.
I like it, it's great to drive, range is short but will be fine for it's use, we both work less than 10 miles away. Charger is getting installed this afternoon, probably will only need a charge once or twice a week, but we're going to try it on a longer trip over the bank holiday for a 'laugh'

It doesn't make much difference on a long trip. It's only short slow trips that ruin range - but then it doesn't matter a lot if you have home charging.
I've said this before but your driving at 70mph uses say 15kW, the heating even in cold weather uses 500W, so only 3.5% But if you are heating up the cabin from cold it uses maybe 2-3kW, and if you're trundling in a queue of traffic you're only using 2kW to drive so it's 50%. And you do very few miles per hour, so your miles/kWh goes down to 1 or 2, and therefore your range looks terrible. If you were to go on a long trip, you would get much more than 170 miles I would guess.

Yes, I've made this point before too 😀 but there is a big difference between "estimated range" and how far you can actually drive in one go on a charge. I can see why people think they are the same but they really aren't. Estimated range is how far you can go between charges based on how you have been driving recently. If that driving has involved a lot of getting into a cold car, driving a short distance and then getting out and letting it cool down before the next journey then obviously that will require more energy (and therefore less "range") than if you just got in the car and drove until the battery was flat. The latter is what people often think range means but the former is what the car reports.
Over the winter my EV3 often reported an estimated range that was a fair bit lower than the estimated range it gives in the summer. But when I did a 500 mile (each way) journey over Christmas I found that the actual overall efficiency was much closer to what I achieved doing the same trip in the summer. A bit lower but not enough to require an extra stop so in practice there was no difference. Maybe I charged for a few minutes longer, but I was doing other things so didn't notice. I always spend longer stopped (attending to my own needs) on a long journey than the car requires for charging, so it's all irrelevant in practice anyway.
Any EVs with a soul? I have a BYD Seal with 0-60 in 3.8s but it is as sanitised to the max. Despite the speed and good handling it is totally unengaging to drive. It's as much fun as a milk float (If you remember those). Any EV's that are actually fun to drive?
Depends how you define fun I guess. My EV3 is the first car I've owned that I genuinely enjoy spending time in (and I'm in my 60s). The first car where I don't mind if there are delays or detours and where I'll sometimes slow down a bit just to make the journey last a bit longer. But what I love is that it is so smooth and refined. There is a feeling of effortless power as acceleration is instant but it can handle a lot of the mundane parts of driving (like braking for bends) for me. It's also got the best stereo of any car I've had and it's quiet enough that I can actually appreciate it. Basically, it is a little oasis of calm in what can often feel like a chaotic existence.
But if you want something light, that you can chuck into a bend and feel exactly where the limit of grip is then no, my original Mk1 Escort would beat it into a cocked hat for that.
Horses for courses really, but often fun means light and it will be a while before battery technology improves to the point where you can get a properly light EV with a useable range. I'm sure it will come, but not yet.
All the mandatory safety (ADAS) kit on modern cars is also bound to remove the connection between the driver and the road I guess, but that's not just an EV thing.
Any EVs with a soul?
I've not driven it but the Renault 5 gets universally good reviews driving experience and looks.
one of the major positives of my EV for me is how relaxing they are to drive compared to any other vehicle I've ever driven including luxo barges .
MY ev isn't even a good one - still has quality lane assist & radar cruise
I've not driven it but the Renault 5 gets universally good reviews driving experience and looks.
Driving our R5 is fun, it's very much like a hot hatch. It's the least ev feeling ev I've driven. The brake blending is spot on, feels like friction brakes all the time even though it is regeneration a lot of the time. Steering is nice, it feels like a go kart. My Elise is still more fun but the 5 is making be consider it it's worth hanging on the Elise anymore.
Bah, my search for a used GV60 does not go awfully well. Am a bit picky on spec but drawing the line at £25k for a car with no service history, thus making future warranty claims pretty nervy.
Any EV's that are actually fun to drive?
my i4 was great fun, felt like a proper fast bmw in every way. I now drive an EV3, slower, more relaxed and smarter tech
Order placed today, woo hoo! 3 month wait, boo!
Decided for my first ev we might as well have a bit of fun.

Hope it's better than a standard 500 EV, very uninspiring. We've ordered an EV Nissan Micra instead to go alongside the EV6, much more fun.

The 500e is a completely different car on a different platform.
Certainly reviews well, but I'm coming from a 20 year old x type diesel estate, a new shopping trolley would feel better so I think the Abarth will be amazing 😁
500e is a city car that now runs on electricity. Small, economical, easy to drive in traffic and park, it has a decent enough info/control system, etc. In 18mo ownership my wife's hasn't missed a beat. But I agree, if you're looking for open road excitement it's not that.
Great at its job, not great at not its job.
As an owner of a dinosaur juice powered Abarth 595, it'll be an absolute riot. Enjoy. There was a lot of negative noise from the Abarth devotees when they launched the electric versions, but the reports from those that have actually owned them are glowing. I'm tempted to move out petrol one on for one in the next year or so
Been thinking how my mileage is going to stack up over the next year and whether I can justify this through the business...
Turbo S so 2.8s 0-60, 162mph, 751bhp. Claimed 285 miles range, but apparently browsing Taycan reviews/forums they match or better the claimed mileage even driven like a Porsche
Will lose a fortune over a couple of years (already less than half RRP at 3 years old, 10k miles), but you only live once. I probably won't end up with one, but..
My mate has one on a relatively cheap lease. It’s a truly awesome thing to be in but I don’t think he’d own one.
but apparently browsing Taycan reviews/forums they match or better the claimed mileage even driven like a Porsche
It's very def in my list but as a used purchase - if buying new you must put it through a business unless you've won the lottery.
Friend has a '23 GTS (only wanted a 4S but couldn't resist) bought late last year:
1) it's stupid fast
2) it's real world range at this time of year is about 180 miles driven sensibly 😬
The was an update for '24 cars that gave a decent range increase.
Problem for me is that you cannot tow anything with it. This is tempting me too wait quite a while for a s/h latest cayenne which is probs just as fast but can tow 3 tons.
