I think it probably helps if you took a 'gap yaah' but I enjoyed it back in the day.

Yep, loved it, one of the few that lived up to the book.

Tilda S is pretty hot in it.

Watched one of my favourite films again tonight, which also centres around a beach - Local Hero.

never been a fan of- who was it?- in the Beach, so I havent seen it. But having lived there for a few years, and been back almost 2 years now, I'd like to see it
I'd like to see if it's the thailand I was looking for, or the one I saw

Great film. OST on my playlist frequently, too (God knows you're lonely souls)...

I only have eyes for Virginie

I'd like to see if it's the thailand I was looking for, or the one I saw

More likely the made up, Hollywood, version.

Still an enjoyable movie though

We watched it in a beach bar not too far from where they filmed the beach scenes. Very enjoyable.

I'd like to see if it's the thailand I was looking for, or the one I saw
My dad, who travelled that area a bit in later life, used to say that in a few short years the Kao San Road changed from location described in the book to one filled with hotels to accommodate the travellers looking for the one described in the book.

Odd film this one.. for me.

See a lot of my mates and work colleagues back in the same era did the "gap yeha, man." Some made a really big thing of it, most going to Thailand and Aus and India, most had either come out of or were doing the divorce scene, most selling homes and splitting assets or arguing over access rights to kids.. but it didn't stop them heading East with a pack, a hat, some sandals and shorts and a camera.. all at the time this film came out.
And deep down, I was a little envious..
So I never watched the film, always avoided it when it's done the rounds on Sky, yet I quite like DiCaprio (Titanic though is utter slime)

Maybe, if it's raining outside I should turn the heating up to 30C and watch The Beach .. all these years later.

Idiotic rather silly simpleton's film IMO, but the locations, cinematography and music and feelings it conveys make it really rather enjoyable.
