So looking to see if many others have thoughts or insights on this as seems there are many more like her. Long story short a close family member who lives in OZ has pretty much over the last year and a half turned into a conspiracy theorist posting on social media everyday about COVID conspiracy and how everyone who has had the jab is going to die, how we are going to a cashless society and won't have any control when they the WEF take our money. How Putin is doing the right thing because there are secret labs in Ukraine and he is protecting his country. Bill Gates and the other American guy are trying to reduce the population through vaccines. Etc etc. Looking into it there seems to be loads of this going around and I'm trying to figure out the reason. There must be lots of money to be made for the clicks and video plays but some of it is complete horse shit and even when shown the unedited video it's glanced over. I've now cut of contact with said person after they got upset a few times when I contradicted their posts. I know I shouldn't get into it but it's hard when u see other older family members starting to question it and loose their confidence. And I'm sure the person in question is having some kind of breakdown. Has anyone figured out where it is all coming from or going through the same with friends or family? Sorry for the rant.
Nope but before I binned off the local “anything goes” FB group there were a few nutters who’d moved on from anti-vax and were now chattering on about exactly these things (cashless society, secret Ukrainian labs, bill gates etc) so they’re obviously getting it from somewhere (the same YouTube vids/influencers, maybe, I guess also their social circles are probably just one big echo chamber now)… so much for “do your own research” 😂
Oh dear.
Who is the WEF?
WEF = world economic forum
Have a look at
stop world control website this is her bible and a great source of information for her. All I see is people trying to profit from it.
My brothers in up to his neck in it all. He’s cut off all contact with the family as “we don’t believe him”. I’m all for listening to different points of view on everything as long as it’s respectful and a two way process. Absolutely no danger of that with him. When mum died he didn’t contact dad for 3 weeks, turns up at the funeral and meal and proceeded to start on my oldest son (11) with it all. Even he saw through him. Very sad.
There’s more and more of it about.
Sometimes I feel like it's enough now, the adults need to take the internet away
how everyone who has had the jab is going to die
In all fairness, he's right about that one, but then again, so is everyone who hasn't had the jab 🙂
The Jon Ronson, 'Things Fell Apart' podcast on BBC Sounds is a fascinating place to start trying to understand the mindset of these people.
Tartan scarf
I feel your pain but yours is probably worse as it's in person aswell. At least mine is easily controlled as she in in OZ. I've just deactivated it for now but it is upsetting my mother. Yes there is no debate it's just your not awake like us and your stupid and I can't spoon feed you more. I'm pretty open minded about things and will look at what is posted but when it's laughable I point it out.
Feed apparently within 2 - 5 years but this seems to have increased as it was 6 months when they first started saying it.
The thing I've never understood about conspiracy theorists is why they choose to believe their version of events, which is very often far less likely than the mainstream version. Like covid was created in a lab so George Soros could put microchips in the vaccine. How is that more likely than covid is just another virus in a very, very, VERY long line of other naturally occuring viruses?
There was an article in The Atlantic* about the looney US congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who spouts alot of conspiracy nonsense, which tried to get to the bottom of why she is like she is. It's a long read
The conclusion (I think) was that people paid her attention, and that was probably reason enough.
Edit: Link needs an account to read. I'll try to get an alternative link.

Because they have serious behavioural/emotional/psychological issues. The irony of them howling at moon and going on about being sheep when they're the living embodiment of group think.
Strap-in for a long bumpy road because until they recognise they need help, they're simply going to go further down the rabbit hole.
I'm still awaiting my 6G uploads direct from my brain.
@robbie - cheers. Had a riding buddy the same but I could have the occasional discussion/argument with him.
I haven’t turned by back on my brother but I don’t feel there’s much more I can do. Always at the end of the phone if he wants
to talk. He lives alone with his youngest son, I can see similar traits forming there.
Yea she has gone pretty far down the rabbit hole. Cancelled bank accounts. PayPal as they are globalists. The media us TV watchers see is controlled and distorted because it's owned by a very few. I'm just hoping she is not contributing financially to help support this nonsense.
The missus had a pal who went full conspiracy theory mad exactly as outlined by the OP. She's cut her off now after being constantly bombarded with all her links and other crap
I've noticed a couple of new things emerging from these lunatics in the past few weeks, at least that's when I first noticed it
The first is YouTube videos of them "auditing" places that they think belong to the people and as such they should see. Think courthouses, police stations, town halls etc. They turn up with cameras, drones etc trying to film inside the places. When they're inevitably booted out, it's yet more evidence of the deep state covering up stuff.
The second, is the newest line to discredit scientists and researchers. Noticed this a lot when the news came out about successful fusion last week. All lies apparently and all these scientists are faking the results purely to ensure they continue getting funding. Again it's a nice way to discredit covid stuff too as the scientists there were all lying just to get more funding

Was about to post the same thing.
Social media has a lot to blame here, recommend more of what you like, go down a rabbit hole and you'll get more and more of the same.
As a 40+ years telecoms tech, 40+ years Radio Ham, 20+ working in a mobile company, the stuff I get to hear from the 5G tinfoil hat nuts and trying to explain to them what the reality is,, oh well they are the same bunch that protest against nuclear power, but end up getting more rads every year from their flights abroad.
I bet it’s effing tiktok and Instagram and totally gullible idiots.
I mean I saw one the other day “the worst thing you can do is pay off your mortgage” , or how these loons come up with these hair brained schemes…
It absolutely winds me up that a video gets millions of views when you see a spelling mistake in it, morons creating a video for “likes” and other video watchers thinking “that must be correct or that must be how you spell that” , the amount of people I want to slap who can’t spell the basics. There’s one word that nobody can spell and it does wind me up, likely more than it should. I think I really am old enough to really appreciate Room 101
OP,
Look at this map and make you mind up yourself.
In SE Asia US are encircling Indonesia who once got help from Russia during the war of independence in the mid to late 40s with The Netherlands. After that US started encircling the region especially Indonesia due to Russian's "influence". They seem to have a habit of trying to encircle the "powerful" nations.
US is rather strategic in their approach by slowly "dismantling" nations that don't agree with them. It will come a time when the whole thing will escalate to a point of no return, which in mind is inevitable in the age of information and disinformation.

Reference from this website.
If only China has an ounce of environmental consciousness by recalling the ancient ways of Tao together with respect to the local / regional cultures (not trying to impose mainland China language on Taiwan, HK or Chinese language all over the world), it would be "game over" (influence the other part of Asia) for US/NATO/West.
Fortunately for the West the Chinese has inherited the Marxist mindset of "you will be assimilated, resistance is futile" mentality, resulted in many rejecting them but they are learning very very sloowly.
What?
What?
LOL! Don't panic! Don't panic!
I am just saying that because that's the perceptions in that part of the world.
Yes, I agree that the Marxist ideology is backward.
On ya ... what's that "The awake" about? Awake to what? Need appropriate title. (I thought it was a new horror movie title and was looking forward to that, I is disappointed)
Chewkw the awake or woke people are the ones that know what's happening. They have been spouting this buzz word for a while on socials. Sorry you were disappointed but it might turn into a horror movie because they are saying that they are now in control of your body if you have had the vaccine. And they are experimenting with cyborgs. Honestly some of it is pretty far out.
So nuclear capable submarines operate in the sea? Interesting stuff!
And it looks like India is being encircled, not Indonesia.
I just looked at that stop world control website, surely it's a parody.
If people swallow this stuff, I guess it points to deeper issues.
But I would say that, as I'm a cyborg.

I know, a Mercator projection in this day and age…

There's at least one signed up to this site and posting on this thread, perhaps she could explain?

Unfortunately the mainstream narrative is also so full of spin, lies and distortion that it doesn't answer the questions many people have about the reality of their lives.
IMO opinion the first place to start with dealing with the rise in conspiracy theories, is some basic laws on political funding and lobbying. Force a bit more honesty into the system so that the conspiracies have less fertile ground to seed. Of course just one country dealing with the problem isn't enough, we need an international effort to deal with it.
Also IMO conspiracy theories are like a religion, they snare people at low points in their lives, times when they are looking for answers to problems they are experiencing (or perceiving) arguing with the victims who have become trapped is rarely going to work. We need to understand their issues and provide a path back to inclusion. Unfortunately that takes "methodological tools" time and effort most of us don't have.

You've been doing this for 100 years? Makes you think...
In Stop World Controls defence there’s some truth in this image

Isn't that an Invisalign advert?
Makes you think...
I find conspiracy nuts fascinating, the more intricate and convoluted a theory is the harder they work to prop it up.
There's a mixture of things behind it, the little dopamine hit our monkey brains get when we think we've spotted a 'pattern' a sprinkling of confirmation bias, maybe a couple of prejudices that want reinforcement...
It's also worth looking for the grift, who's benefiting (not necessarily financially) from these things...
Look at this map and make you mind up yourself.
Needs more coloured dots and accompanying gibberish...
The term "conspiracy theorist" was weaponised by the intelligence agencies to shut down people questioning the official narrative around JFK's assassination. And just this week now we've had mainstream media in the US tell everyone the CIA killed JFK.
Oh the ironing.
Pretty much ended my mates marriage
His wife went all in for it, started off with Q-anon, Trump, then went full covid denying, antivax, it came to a head when she stopped the kids having anything from heinz and nestle or watching Disney/Marvel films or anything with Tom Hanks... coz paedophiles & bill gates microchips and of course secret weapons labs in ukraine.
She alienated colleagues, lost friends, had warnings from work.
Things have improved most of her crazier theories came via facebook and theyve tightened up a lot of that stuff & qanon has disappeared up its arse.
The term “conspiracy theorist” was weaponised by the intelligence agencies to shut down people questioning the official narrative around JFK’s assassination
Apparently that's another bandwagon jumped on by conspiracy theorists - but this is getting a bit meta. That's in a philosophical way rather than a Zuckerberg way,
The term “conspiracy theorist” was weaponised by the intelligence agencies to shut down people questioning the official narrative around JFK’s assassination.
You'll no doubt be unsurprised to learn that this "fact" is also subject to it's own conspiracy theory.
As Hugh Macleod once wrote (and drew), "The market for something to believe in is infinite". This lunacy is filling a gap left by religion. Some people just need a special thing to believe in.
This might help the OP get some insight.

See also the coming storm, also on BBC, but that's more about right wing trump nutters.
The inifinite monkey cage also did a good episode on it...

Very difficult to pull people back from them. Conspiracy theries aren't falsifiable. Any evidence the theory is wrong is just interpreted as another cover up and further evidence it's true.
started off with Q-anon,
Wow, in MTB terms that's like taking on the Champery World Cup track for your introductory MTB ride, Q-anon is proper out there bonkers.
Sorry for your mate, must have been horrendous to lose someone to that nonsense.
My SiLs boyfriend's dad was at a lose end a few Christmases back so came to the family lunch. Proceeded to spout his flat earth crap to everyone, I must admit I was fascinated and flummoxed by his thought process, completely irrational but just stated "the bible doesn't mention that the earth is round, therefore it isn't"! A very odd man.
