I have an Ikea light fitting I'm going to fit. I haven't had the existing fitting off yet, but it's likely based on other fittings in the room that there's live, neutral and earth. The Ikea light is double insulated and doesn't therefore need the earth. I was intending to terminate the earth in a terminal block and tape that up.
However, I note the fitting has a third connection which is unused. I presume it could be used for adding the lights where they're on a more complex circuit.
However, in this instance it's simply one live, one neutral.
Can I therefore use the unused part of the fitting to terminate the earth?
Yes no problem terminating in the middle connection. Will keep it neat and tidy.
Perfect - that's what I thought/was hoping! Cheers.
Just cut it off?
Just cut it off?
That's worse than crossing the streams.....
Just cut it off?
Not this. When you want to fit a new light that needs the earth, you’ll be asking “how to get an additional inch” 😜😜
