Was wanting to research free/subsidised home insulation schemes, and a quick search it seems you can only get if you are on benefits/fuel poor/diability/retired etc etc.
Anything available for those of us that contribute to society and pay tax?
Based in Scotland, thinking we are on Eon for elec and Scottish gas. had a quick look at Eon, but doesn't look like we are eligible.
House is 11 year old timber frame, we have half insulated the loft with that 100mm space blanket stuff and wanted to do the rest, but was also thinking any cavity wall insulation that was there (if any) may have sagged by now?
In England at least, they all seemed to stop in Dec 12.
I would have thought an 11 year old house will be pretty well insulated (enforced by building regs)?
i got my loft insulated and my wall filled 18 month ago.
it was all done f.o.c by british gas.
Absolutely none if you rent an old solid walled property on the verge of being listed. You can pay them a fortune to make your small rooms even smaller to add some form of insulation. Lathe and plaster, non-standard, it'll cost you - NON-STANDARD! houses have had it for years, it's probably been in this one since it was built.
Rant over, was a pretty wasted phone call for me.
Yours sounds easy to insulate so can probably get what's on offer.
Next time I decorate my rooms, I'll strip off the Victorian plaster and fit PB backed with 50mm Celotex on the exterior walls. Will lose about 2" off the length of the room, but probably worth it in saved energy long term.
Ton +1.
The scheme was run by the council here and outsourced the work to British Gas. Insulated the walls FOC. Could of had the loft doen but its already done and they would have had to remove all the old stuff - too messy. I think it is finished now.

We had ours done last year for free, and both me and my wife work and pay tax and don't get any benefits.
The backed PB stuff is brill. We've got a 50mm backed PB in the nursery and the difference is outstanding, so glad i did it. It's not cheap by any stretch as you realy do need the vpaour control barrier ones as well. It's made the room very cosy!

Well done you, Ton and uwe-r, but those schemes all finished in Dec 2012 (in England at least) and aren't available now.

yes if you'd paid attention at the time but possibly too busy pointing fingers
pays tax yes a lot
contributes to society did a lot of volunteery stuff but sodded off abroad
has a daughter registered disabled yes
so got about a few% back of what paid in tax
we had ours done last year for free, we pay tax and have all of our limbs, was certainly not means tested.
We had cavity walls and loft insulation done (house is 13 years old, was the last traditional built property the builders did so still has cavity walls)
TBH, if I hadn't seen them do it myself, or seen the insulation debris blowing all around the street, I wouldn't have believed it had been done. I had images of us sitting around in the house all winter in our pants with just a single candle flame keeping us sweaty and cosy all night, but it was not to be.
I think you may have missed the boat now but if there is anything on offer, energy saving trust should know about it. We went via them (we are in Scotlandshire as well)

Are you sure about that? Ours just laid the new stuff on top of the old stuff. The only thing that was a pain was moving all of the accumulated junk around in our loft to accommodate them
