I fancy one of the Google Nexus 7 tablets for reading, surfing web and for downloading Sufferfest vids and using on turbo etc.

Trouble is i can't really afford a 3G/4G iPad at present and i live in darkest Norfolk where broadband does not exist and won't til 2015 so i don't have Wifi at home or work.

I do though get a basic 3G signal on phone, can i connect the tablet to the phone and use the 3G signal? Sorry if it is a basis numpty question!!!

I've used my iPhone to for tethering against both Mac and PC laptops. Can't see why an Andoid tablet woudl be an issue. You can tether over Bluetooth and WiFi as well as USB.

Check that your data contract allows it first!!!

Yes but downloading a sufferfest video will probably melt your phone.

Why not get a 3G Nexus 7? They are £239 but sold out at the moment, I'm sure they will have some more in a couple of weeks.

Thanks guys.

I still go home to Surrey occasionally so large 3gb files like Sufferfest will have to be downloaded there!

I ache, do you then have to pay a monthly/ yearly fee for the 3G?

scud, if you get a 3G tablet then you can get a sim from someone like Giffgaff contract free - just top up as needed.

A gigabag is data only - http://giffgaff.com/goodybags#data

However, if your phone does hotspot/tethering, you're doubling up on data plans to possibly not worth it, just tether. I don't know how the iPhone works but as long as it creates a wireless hotspot, it shouldn't matter what device you connect to it.

(at extra charge)

Hm, on O2 contracts at least, iPhone wifi tethering is included in your regular data allowance. You need to ring them to enable it though (they change tariffs, though it costs exactly the same).

Wifi is wifi, it should Just Work irrespective of whether one's Android and one's iDevice etc.

You can probably just stick a PAYG SIM in there or even get a cheap SIM only contract.

FWIW Orange wanted £15 a month to let me tether my HTC.
