Ventoux closed at 8am, I'd expect the same. Half our club will be there, but sadly I shall be in another part of France. Nothing except the final stage anywhere near Paris this year.

You reckon all the roadside pitches will be gone already? Have to watch from further down then I suppose. They are coming round twice at least, reckon they'll be slower on the second pass:)
Same day closure was what I expected, maybe two days as it's Alpe- duez. Have to see where we get there

Well, I reckon the vast majority who were on ventoux with campers today will be there, plus a few more! Might be worth parking up in somewhere like villard reculas and walking across?

L'Alpe is already full. people have already been for a few days. but you could just walk up from the bottom. the first few hairpins are the steepest.

only saw the highlights this evening and I'm sure they said alpe d'huez was already closed to anything other than tour traffic? could be wrong but judging by the numbers alongside the road today it is going to be very busy.

How far is villard reculas? Have a 10 and 8 year old with me. should have already been halfway there if it wasn't for the oil leak I found under the van when I went to pack it yesterday! Oil service was done the day before, grrrr! Looks like they have stripped the thread and it will need a helicoil to fix it. Oh well, could have discovered it 500miles down France when the oil light came on!

It's 2 miles flat walk, or ride, along a proper road (with stunning views) to huez, where there is a chairlift up the hill to the bottom of alpe d'huez village.

Villard reculas is 3.5km from the hairpins. I'm in vr now, it's not too bad in this village but d'huez is getting 'busy' quite a few motor homes or easy in place ESP towards the top.
The main roads in will be manic in he next few days, the tour local brochure says the road closures from Grenoble:
Main route, vizille via n85 then D1091. Junction at la Paute closed from 1 till 5:30 pm. Traffic will be filtered from noon onwards from rochatelle.

Hope that helps

They'll close the roads that join up with the climb a day before (even if the main road up is still open) - it was about 12pm on 2008. So you'll struggle to get parked in Villard Reculas.

If I wasn't already there (which I'm not this year ๐Ÿ™ ) my plan would be to head to Oz or Vaujany and get the cable car over to Alpe d'Huez, then walk down the climb a bit from there.

You reckon all the roadside pitches will be gone already?

I rode it last week. The pitches had mostly gone by Friday.
