Mrs Zip wants some shoes from U.S that cost 29.99 dollars plus 27 dollars post.

Are we going to get hit with all kinds of charges or not?

Duty on the shoes, VAT on the shoes plus postage and then the handling charge. The latter will be the killer.

Or you might get lucky.

It is liable for import VAT (20%) on the total cost, including postage. So about £9.
Plus the courier will charge a handling fee, could be up to £10.

I bought a t-shirt from the states, $30 including postage.  Royal Mail then charged £13.56 before delivering.  That £13.56 was £5.56 in duty and VAT plus £8.00 handling fee.  Other carriers may charge different or you may get lucky and have your parcel slip through

27 dollars post.

I should have queried your high p&p charges, what exactly does $27 pay for?

Yep, still happens. Bought some bass strings a few weeks ago without realising it was a US seller (was half asleep!) and then came straight through with no charges.

$27 seems normal, US postage costs are generally high. I would ask will it ever arrive in the current climate though. Air freight is a mess.

I thought there was no import duty to be paid on goods less than £135? So just VAT and handling. Should be around £50 all in.

Unless it's way cheaper, don't bother buying from US. My son ordered some perfume for his sister, less than £25, but VAT and the handling charge almost doubled it. Wouldn't mind VAT, but the handling charges were steep.
