ive been wanting a ghecko/lizard type tattoo for ages now and yesterday i got a lizard henna tattoo on my arm...just to see how it looked.. i realy like the idea,,....
im middle age (44) and my daughter says im too old ! she has 2 tattoos.
but ive wanted a a tattoo for about 2 years now and still thinking...oh to hell with it...its my body (lol) ... why shud i worry too much about what anyone else thinks.... went into the tattoo shop today and the bloke in there said just try not to be nervous....and if you've been through childbirth then having a 'tattoo' is nowt like having a child ! hahahhah

Still, this is STW. Give it a moment and you'll get just as many replies telling you how much people like theirs or how hot someone this tattoos are on women.

the fact that you need to ask other peoples approval means you haven't really thought it through. If you want to, just do it! the truth is, nobody else really cares! I certainly don't think it's anything special. It's nothing special orfashionable or good or cool or young or new or anything.

A little bit of pain would be the least of my worries. I'd be more concerned about what it will look like in twenty years and will I still want it there... I'm 41 and never had one. I've kind of figured if I was going to have one I'd have done it by now.

Don't be a numpty. Why do you want one? To look like everyone else? I wanted one in the mid 90's. I am SO glad I didn't now. Still it does seem to be the only growth industry in the UK, pity it's not work we could export.
My Wifes 40 and she`s thinking of having a tattoo also , something discreet , butterfly maybe , on her shoulder or between her shoulders , i told her to get one on the bottom of her back , but she calls them Tramp Stamps when their there !

my missus had one on her arm removed a few years back, laser treatment, it was very expensive, very painful and the areas of red ink so stubborn that many more treatments would have been required to shift it totally. This isnt something to change your mind about.
The design and the placement are the most important things IMO.

Tats aren't just for chavs, they can also be a form of art. But only if you have them as an individual form of expression. Get something unique, don't just go and get the standard black lizard, get something more personalised or find a really good place that can do amazing colouring on the standard lizard pattern.

saw a bloke a couple of years ago who was clearly displaying some 30 odd years old tattoos. the quality was top notch, perfect artwork, no fade, all the lines were still sharp.... he had bruce lee on one shoulder blade and clint eastwood in spaghetti western character on the other.... nice. 😉

Have a look at the work coming out of the Yellow Blaze studio for how tattooing [i]can[/i] look. Good tattooing is art, plain and simple. That it ages as a person ages only adds to the story. (Err, maybe not at work, or with small children / maiden Aunts about tho' - just in case. It's entirely professional, and the online versions of the photos are moderated, but some shots might be suggestive of [the horror of] nudity).
Years ago I used to see an old fella at the back end of Exeter, walking back out of town with his shopping. In the summer he'd be shirtless, and he was covered in old, blown out and faded sailor tattoos - straight-up, traditional stuff from flash sheets, almost no colour, just faded to that blue colour they go when they bloom. I dunno how old this guy was, late 70's, 80's perhaps, but there he was, and his tat's were part of his story, whatever that was.
Now, those tat's could well have been done just down the road, but equally, they could have been done in countless ports over decades, every one with it's own story.
The work looked like it'd have been nothing particularly special at the time: There was nothing custom about it, it all looked like it went in where there was space, straight as it came off the sheet ... but that's to completely miss the point.
He'd had them done, and they said something about him: Annoyingly I never did stop and talk to him about them, and I wish now that I had - he might well have told me to clear off, but he might have been up for a chat ...
For all I know he could have come to hate them, and all they stood for, but I'd be very willing to bet that couldn't be further from the truth.
It'd been great to have photographed him and his work, there was a real sense of the roots of tattooing right there - both in the work itself, and the motivation to curate it, and to continue to display it.

OBB! I used to sit on my uncles lap and he'd tell me stories of the images on his chest and arms. Ships and anchors, and stories. Just like popeye!. real shiT! I'm sure it still exists in armed forces, but my Uncle decorated himself from real true experience. Not fashion cool shit. I'm sure if I had a child though, I'd get a tattoo.

At the age of 42, I think its time I got my left arm sleeve completed. And my gf has a couple of tattoos that she's had for years (as well as 17 piercings!) and is planning on more (shes in her late 30s).
neither of us are even remotely 'chavvy' either.
Elaine, as long as you have thought it through and are happy with placement and the design then get it done. The most important thing is getting a decent tattooist to do it. I have to wait up to three months to get an appointment with my tattooist. They are always booked up that far in advance. I take that as a sign of quality but then I have been going to him when he was on his own over twenty years ago, so I know his work!
My sister in law is 21 and goes to someone who works from a shed and gets tatts the size of a thumb each time, on different parts of her body. Looks awful and it does look chavvy!
At the end of the day, it is your body. Not everyone is going to like it. People probably hate mine but I love all of them. Thats what counts.

do not (under any circumstances) go on an all day session, in a foreign country, then get your mate to draw a (very) rough sketch on a beer mat, then take said beer mat to tatoo parlour and demand (not ask) that said 'design' be emblazoned on your upper arm!

I "know" a girl that has, said it wasn't the worst thing in the world. A bit sore for a couple of days, but after that no ill effects. And she really likes the way they look, and says they've made her nipples stand out more (which may or may not be a good thing depending). Know another girl who's got a bar "down there", says sometimes all she needs to do is cross her legs and she gets all light headed! If that's your kind of thing of course... 😉

Got my first tattoo at 16 and i'm 41 now, got quite a few. Each one is totally custom, drawn up by the tattooist or myself and represents kind of what was going on in my head and life around the time i had it done. Rarely display them in public though, never got them to say " look at me i've got tatts aren't I cool " They're just a part of me and my life. So i'd say if you're gonna get one go for something that represents you and your life not something that you've seen on a footballer.
I turned 30 this year, and got my first tattoo about 6 weeks ago. Mine is my own design and has two meanings, the true one only I know. I love it, no regrets at all. I've wanted one for years so it wasn't a spur of the moment decision. The pain isn't bad at all - and I'm a wuss - so no need for the cream you ask about. If you are unsure wait a while and see how you feel. If it means something to you, you won't regret it.
It's also worth making sure you find a good tattooist, and one you are happy with. I asked all sorts of questions before hand, as you have to keep in mind you can't have a steam room/sauna for a few weeks, and depending where you get it done, some sports are a no no as well.
