Came back to say how level she looks on the waterline...
She does sit nicely doesn't she - just a little high at the bows ready to settle down when the capstan and anchor chains go aboard.
On a slight tangent, I ordered a couple of books this week from Tom Cunliffe's website (one of his videos about sailing on Jolie Brise was linked many pages upthread). Expected they'd be fulfilled from a warehouse somewhere but no, they turned up with a handwritten address and personally wrapped in an old chart of Dartmouth and Lyme Bay 🙂
Mmmm, arty
Interesting little bit of backstory

wowzers, been a loooooong time, bit dewy eyed seeing Raul there.
That brizzle post story...errrrr not sure rags to riches is the trope that best fits leo 😂

Indeed. A surprisingly emotional watch
Happy day.
Excellent, it's been one of the best things I have followed.
Looking forward to it's first voyage.
Me too now! Time to predict voyages.
Without a doubt I think he will bring it back to UK for a visit at some point, maybe even take part in the Fastnet......
Toasted the launch in some of Tuscany's finest.
There's still away's to go with sails and final fitting out though.
I want to play Leo at poker, he cannot hid his glee 🙂
yeah, thought the same, I hope they haven't fallen out I don't think Leo would be in this position if it wasn't for Pete.
I always assumed they fell out since Pete never got a proper farewell, shame not to see him in the montage, but perhaps that was his choice.
Incredible to see it in the water after so long. It's a very beautiful boat. And wonderful to see Leo so happy too, he's mostly looked stressed of late.
nice image of tally ho

👍⛵
hi res version of a previous image

Kind of looks pretty small on the water
as designed, she was designed with Brixham harbour in mind, hence the transom stern as a classical pilot cutter with a counter stern she'd be 6ft+ longer.
I'm waiting for it to get under sail. Which for me was always the best part, when you got out the harbour and finally switched off the engine so it all goes quiet, and just the whump noise as the sails fill.
Crashed it already! 😂
The prop issue sounds like a bit of a nightmare to sort.
How easy is it to get the gearbox in and out of the boat now it's all been built inside? 🤔
There's two types of sailors. Those who've run around and liars.
So true.
It does sound like the prop issue is going to be solved but what a faff....
have you ever seen so much joy coming out of a video :), that was fantastic
Shame not to see Pete there for the launch, is he still working in the Port Townsend boatyard or has he moved onto somewhere else?
If you look on Google maps, a building pretty close to Leo’s base at the port is labelled “Pete Stein Shipwright”. Suggests Pete is still there, and maybe that they didn’t fall out as badly as it seemed, if he’s based so close by. It’s odd though, that he hasn’t reappeared once since the episode when Leo said he’d gone.
Latest episode so joyful, what a watch!
What a fabulous, positive, happy wee video...
So, first sail trip around Vancouver island?
Spoiler!
I bought this boat for $1!
Five years and $700,000 later ...
Five years and $700,000 later …
And the rest! He's not skimped anywhere!
I've always wondered how much he had in savings when he started this. He originally said he would work on it, then go off and work and save up and come back.
He's had a lot of free labour but he must have been paying staff for the last year or so. I think no feet Pete was the first full time member.
Patreon and YouTube and adverts must have paid well but I'd love to know what his original plans were or was he confident that social media would work?. Watching some of those early episodes when he's man handling some of these massive beams was what got me watching it. Thinking how on earth is this bloke going to restore that rotting ship on his own.
Now it's almost done and he's got 5 or 6 people working on it I've kind of gone off it but I'm committed now 4 years on and need to see it to the end.
I agree it's lost some of its charm
On the flip side I kinda like the organic growth of the operation. Humble beginnings to a fairly significant outfit. And at least he’s actually been able to do it at a pace that’s interesting for the viewers
I’ve had a few looks at RAN sailing and the duracel project but month after month of endless fibreglass work is kinda tedious to watch
