I did a four day canoe tour on the Klaralven for my brother-in-law's stag thing back in 2010 and am doing the same with my wife and kids (12 and 14) in July, but what else should we be looking at? The Stockholm peninsula? Goteborg? We're there for two weeks in all. Could hire a car but I remember the trains being good. Fancy a lakeside cabin but also some city stuff. The Stockholm peninsula? Goteborg? Thanks

I'd love to go to Gothenburg but it's not that easy to get to from here without the infernal Ryanair, and sadly there is no longer a ferry service to Scandinavia. This hasn't been helped by the smaller child telling me Batman lives in Gothenburg which would be awesome.

The vasa ship in Stockholm is a top thing to see. Then there are just loads of day trips out to the islands in the Archipelago from Stockholm. I loved these

Something slightly different, but I had a couple a very enjoyable days on the beaches around Angelholm, and visiting the insanity that is Nimis.

Vasa is now on the list. Nimis looks incredible. What about getting there, and around generally? Also, finding places to stay - AirBnB/booking.com or is there a better, local alternative?

I went there on a trip from Denmark. Bus from Helsingborg to Mölle and then a short hike. It was quite easy to plan and pay using their app, which unfortunatley I've since deelted and I can't remember the name - sorry !!

I remember it being quite hard to find even with a car (pre google maps though). Take some gloves though, there are nails sticking through here and there.

Skansen is great if you want to see how Sweden developed through the ages, it's also on Djurgården, so hand for ferries back to Stockholm/Slussen and for other things like the Viking museum, Abba museum, etc. Slussen will also do you water taxis out to the Skärgården and I can recommend taking a trip to Fjaderholmarna because this place ( https://www.fjaderholmarnasbryggeri.se/) does a tasting flight.

Slussen is also about where the tours around Stockholm and the canals leaves from, which is a nice afternoon out. Travel around the city is easy. Metro and busses are nearly everywhere in the city and if you want to head to Göteborg or other places, Central Station is your place. It's a few hours to Göteborg, five to Malmö, 35 minutes to Uppsala...

I live about an hour north of Stockholm and use booking.com or lastminute.com if I need to stay in. Scandic does decent rooms at decent rates, but Stockholm can be expensive. Central will be more expensive than further out, but places like Södermalm can throw up some bargains.

Don't bother with a car unless you fancy paying expensive parking and tolls, or you are planning on driving around the countryside. Don't bring cash; it's not easy to pay with it.

Skånetrafiken is the bus app for Helsingborg. Just for the sake of completeness 😂

It’s also the app you need for the Öresundståg (which is currently all over the place due to a track fault on the bridge).
