Can't recommend the nexus 7 enough. Cheap, powerful and unlike many other android tabs it a pleasure to use. No lag, excellent screen and with it being a "Google product" it will be first in line for any updates.

You won't get a better tab for the money.

All seem reasonably similar, not that well known but maybes worth a punt for the price?

I'm using a Sumvision Astro that is available on ebuyer for £125. It's excellent, and not just for the price. 9.7" screen, android ics it does what I need.

We bought a couple of Ainol Nova 7 Auroras in the summer for the kids from Gadgetfreakz - they were @£100 each and am really pleased with them - well put together and they work really well.

I thought the issue with the cheaper tablets was that they need hacking to get access to the Play store to download the apps?

Some of the reviews of the cheaper tablets on ebuyer refer to poor wifi performance too

Nexus 7. Thrashes the competition at this size and price.

We've been looking at the LeapPad2 which is a kid-specific tablet. Gets good reviews on Amazon.

I bought the Sumvision Astro+ from ebuyer a while ago & was quite pleased with it. Android 4, mini hdmi & usb out, micro sd card slot, access to google play etc.

Got home yesterday to find that wifey had brought a kindle fire hd back from tesco. Appears to be based on android but much more locked down than a standard tab & tied into amazon. No sd card slot and twice the price of the Astro. Oh, and having trouble getting it to talk to my (XP) computer.

On the plus side the kindle has better wireless reception, better battery life and a far superior screen. It's a really nice thing. Pity it's so locked down.

You can still browse the web and get your emails on it. You can also copy your (non drm) music & pics across (if you can get it to connect to your computer that is)...

Although the Minigadget Envy is cheap at £79, I would give it a wide berth. A friend on my wife bought 3 of them only 4 weeks ago for her 3 children. All 3 have already broken and have been sent back. Minigadget offer a 30 day refund and a repair after that. The Wifi stopped working on one, the other eventually refused to power up and the 3rd just continually crashes and powers off.

You really do get what you pay for and it appears that you pay little for the Envy but you also get very little. I would avoid at all costs!
