... the "Holy Poo, Are We Really Doing This Again?" edition.

Based on feedback from previous sessions, we're going to change the evening for this one. In fact we're considering changing the day repeatedly if we do more of these so that we can be as inclusive as possible. ("But I can only do Tuesdays!")

With this in mind, the next game will be either a Friday or Saturday evening. What I need from you lot right now (if you want to take part) is to indicate your preference on a referendum opinion poll wot I dun, and we will go with the majority vote. Dates and exact times TBC, I just need a day at this point. Assuming I haven't made a pig's bladder of it you should be able to express your preferences here without needing login accounts or anything:

https://doodle.com/poll/mxin5mpuipymsn59

<Marcus Bentley> WHO GOES? YOU DECIDE! </Marcus Bentley>

The format is going to switch up a little from the previous two outings. We have a celebrity* guest quiz master in the shape of @tthew who has stupidly graciously offered to run a more traditional pub-style quiz.

My glamorous co-hosts @NBT and @RogerMoore will as ever be... uh, doing something, I expect.

(* celebrity status not guaranteed)

Of course, but this is just an initial toe in the water. The trick to herding cats is one cat at a time.

I like a vote where you can tick multiple boxes and (I assume) get multiple votes/cock the whole thing up

If both days are good, tick both days. That was intentional, it's not an either/or choice. The WMCCB option I really just threw in for the LOLs and likely will ignore.

Feel free to report back here if you've voted and want to talk about it, but I don't need folk to do so cos I can see the results. Oddly enough.

Ah but if people reply here then it bumps the thread so that more poeple are prompted to do the poll...

Does anyone know if you can transmit system sounds over Zoom, like you can with MS Teams? Specifically for the music round, I don't want to have to resort to holding my phone up to the laptop microphone!

Fairly sure you can, yes, though you may have to use presenter mode. If someone else is hosting the meeting they can make you the presenter

It depends on the music - PM me the details of the artist, song name, year of release, album it is from and any other likely quiz questions and I will tell you if it will work.

Nice try. 🤣

I suppose with the music round, you could do it as a file transfer maybe?

Er, I was just going to make a playlist of these 10 songs... (not really, nice try WCA!) and play the intro for each before skipping on.

I've got a different Zoom quiz tonight that I'm not the host of, I'll try nbt's suggestion to see if that works. That's the same basic process as Teams, I'd be surprised if it's not an option in Zoom.

Bumpity bump.

We are a 'go' for the 30th. We have a new-and-improved quizmaster; we have a backup old-and-inferior quizmaster should our new one get struck down by a falling jet engine crashing through his bedroom ceiling between now and Friday; we have a Master of Ceremonies; and we have, uh, Dan who used to do something useful but we like him. I'm still waiting for an OK Zoomer but aside from that we're golden.

Oi, I resemble that comment!

Oooh, I get that now, I only saw that film recently. It didn't live up to the hype

It's a weird film.

You need to watch the director's edition. Then you need to read up on WTF it was all about, there's a website. Then you need watch it again.

It's a masterpiece from an at the time very green Kelly, but it's a lot of work for a viewer.

It really wasn't good enough to persuade me to watch it a second time, much less a third

Please let there not be any questions about it on the quiz...

This was a complete surprise, as the old inferior quiz master did not mention it.

You don't need to worry on that score! Questions are finished, there are 3 rounds of 10 questions, a picture quiz, which I'll upload to here as late as I can before the off on Friday and a music round. I'm looking forward to it!

The nice Mr @Cougar posts a link to a Zoom chat and a separate link to an online quiz which, once started, runs automatically and keeps a running tally.
You can join either one or both together - the first time it was done I think it was @perchypanther who was doing the quiz but not the chat. Antisocial git. He won the quiz by a country mile, presumably because he wasn't chatting inane bollocks at the same time...

I'll get Cougar to confirm, but last time he posted a new topic with the  Zoom link at the top a few hours before the start.

Need to confirm the time too.

bit different this time. quiz is a proper "pen and paper" quiz rather than the online automated quiz I used, so you will need to be on the zoom call at least with audio. You don't have to subject us to your fizzog if you fear it may upset peopleso can turn video off if you really want to

Yeah.

Basically I want this to be inclusive as possible so if people want to join the quiz but not the chat, or the chat but not the quiz, then that's absolutely fine.

Historically the quiz has been web-based so this has been straight-forward, we just provide the link to the web page and you can crack on. However we're trying something a little different this time, we're going to run it more like a regular pub quiz so you'll need Zoom chat audio at least even if you want to turn your camera and / or microphone off.

We're aiming to Avengers Assemble from 7:30pm with a view to starting the quiz at 8pm. We're just ironing out the fine details, more to follow shortly.

I think once Matt's pioneered the seat-of-pants concept, I might do the next one. I've been running quizzes with The Fam over lockdown so it shouldn't be a massive task to recycle some of that.

As I said, I've a couple of previously-enjoyed "pen and paper" quizzes I can recycle easily enough as well, but I'm happy to let others run quizzes so I can participate
