I know, but it seems there are a few of us that do, so I thought ....life's too short to hold to protocol.

Could be fun to get together before there's too much salt on the roads (and snow for that matter).

Suggestions for venue/destinations?

I'm based nr Winchester, but have bike, will travel 8)

Shouldn't you be putting things like that on other "specialist" sites? Might give the wrong idea to the leather clad masses on here, as we all know what happens on STW group rides!

We might be up for it too, just up the road in Farnborough. 2-up on a Ducati ST3s should be up for it. Sensible (ish) riding only though.... 😉

I'm happy to cross the bridge if someone has a route in mind?
Or there are lots of nice roads here....
Any ideas on when?
End of the month best for me for juice money but can maybe sort something out before...

So, we could go in a welsh direction. Could meet by the bridge. Anyone got a good route?

So far we have a trio of Italian bikes.

Any others?

No decision made on a route yet. Seems like we are all spread out a bit. We could just chose a destination, meet up, bumble and then split.

Any suggestions

Damn - bit far for me with my 5 month old lad taking up a lot of time at the moment. The Guzzi doesn't make it far out of Cumbria/Yorkshire/Lancashire at the moment!

Maybe if there is another next year 😉

aka_Gilo, I took the new Tuono out earlier in the year... man that thing is utterly batsh*t insane! Loads of fun, but very glad I didn't buy one. Life would have come to a very entertaining but ultimately untimely end!

I don't think this will be the last attempt at a meet. We should plan for the spring too

Some of the fun roads this side are

A4061 Bridgend-Hirwaun then A4059 up to the A470.
From there you can hit Brecon or Sennybridge with or without a bit of the A40.
Then you have either the A40 to Llandovery,A4069 over Black Mountain or
A4067.

They all drop back onto the A465 or M4 for a quick run back.

Loads of lovely roads that I kind of know.Usually ride them on my own and I'm by no means fast.

We could meet at Abergavenny,Monmouth or Magor services just after the bridge.

Depends how deep into Waleshire you want to come..

Open to suggestions and happy to follow...

capt.Kronos - love the Guzzi!

Re: the new V4T, yep it's a proper piece of kit. Not taken one out as I'm sure if I did I'd want to buy one, and I can't justify £11.5k on a new bike. That said, I love my V2T and it'll do me fine for a good few years yet.

If we do head for Wales I know stacks of routes we can do as 95% of my riding is over there. Alternatively a breakfast run to Weymouth would be fun, especially if we do the West Bay - Weymouth roller coaster coast road 🙂

aka_Gilo... I drifted it around a corner after 15 minutes, hoiked a monster on the subsequent straight and finished with a rolling stoppie... at which point I decided to go for a hair cut as that kind of stuff really is not sensible on the public roads! It's abilities were WAAAAY beyond my levels of competence!!!

The Griso is bloody ace though and never fails to draw attention. I still say it is the sexiest bike on the market today. Hopefully it still will be by the time I finish paying it off 😉

Putting your bikes away for winter? fair weather bikers. Jeezo - the youth of today *mutters into beard*

I rode back from Iona on jan 3rd one year on my bmw when it was well below freezing and I used to ride a motorbike the whole year round - paint in in a grease / solvent mix in october and wash it in march

I seen a motorbike on the Woolwich Ferry t'other day; had heated handlebar grips. 😮

Why I cannot get these for my bicycle?

Because of racism?

I maybe up for this, date and distance dependent.
BTW I'm no fair weather biker -been riding everyday to work for the last 10years. I have a pair of those heated exo gloves, and whilst working they are brilliant, far, far better than heated grips. I'll be digging them out soon to see if they still work.

The question is, do I go as Power ranger or Textiles..
gratuitous trackday shot 🙂

I've done it, ridden through winter. My first test was cancelled because of snow, and I passed on New Years Eve. For 3-4 years I had no car. I've done Farnborough to Alnwick for my grandmas funeral and back the next day with a sniwdrift up my front..... It's not too bad really, but then I had the bike for the job (CB500s) in recent years I've commuted by cycling or on a scooter, another tool for the job.
These days my life is different, working away I need the car and although we still have the scooter we also have a Ducati. And why would I take that out and ruin it in salt every day if I didn't have to?

Anyway Teej, when did you last actually ride your bike anyway? 😉

Elfin, yes, it's racism. Heated grips are racialist. 🙄

Back to tbe point, let's aim for the 29th or 30th of October. If it's a nasty day, we'll bail.

Right now it seems we should have a bimble on the welsh Borders, meeting somewhere nr Brizzole?

Obviously we will need mirror smooth hard top for the Tuono, and many petrol stations 😉

It would be good to meet somewhere with the following:

Sheep free twisty bits. A proper char stop, limited radar

I've yet to put liners back in my goretex suit, so it might be possible to get a ride in before we enter winter

I'd be keen to tag along. Just North of Newport. If you read Bike magazine, October issue has a bit on a Welsh road. I guided the author that day. There are some beautiful bits of road and scenery near me. I can put a rough route together if people want it?

Let's have a Northern one next Spring, eh?

Love the Guzzi, a friend of mine has one (the 4V) and it looks ace, goes well, too. Bit of an odd riding position, though.

Seems reasonable. I think I can make that date, will have to check though 🙂

I'm OK for a good 200 miles between fuel stops. Fairing and Ohlins bounce keeps me comfy... 😉

Lol - no chance mate - this one's a keeper (well, for the next couple of years until shiny bike lust strikes again...)

"Obviously we will need mirror smooth hard top for the Tuono, and many petrol stations "

Nope, I have replaced the pos standard shock with an Ohlins, and had the suspension set up properly, so bumpy B roads are fine! Petrol stations however - yes. 80 miles til the light comes on if thrashed.

The more the merrier ( if that's how you spell it).

Looking likely to be 29th October, that's a Saturday.

Shedbrewed: I'll leave the details up to you, but remember a few of us will be doing a couple of hours before we meet and then to get home again, so it's more of a social than a marathon. If the blackstuff is as good as I hope, then we can go again in the summer, to do more, for longer.

I think Saturday is best as less nutters in cages going back to London in the evening.

PP we could do the Shrewsbury twisty bits on the way back...

I may be underbiked for this on a Transalp in the company of Triumphs and Italian exotica but I'm sure it will be fun

No problems. I'll google map it and then people can have their own copy too. It will be more of a scenic quality route than a head down thrash route. Incorporating tea, petrol and ice cream stops.

MKCHRIS, don't sweat bike choice I'll either be on my Tenere or old Speed Triple.

Yep - more than happy. It'll obviously depend on who comes and where they are coming from / need to get back to.

I strongly suggest we meet at Aust services (next to old Severn Bridge) as we can then ride the Chepstow - Usk Rd which I LOVE, nice tight and twisty B road (a motorcycling equivalent of great technical singletrack :D). We can head into Aber for a cuppa at the bus station (local bike meeting point), then head off to ride some of South Wales' finest tarmac. Can't wait

Presonnal record so far.
Leaving grasse 6h15 on the morning, meeting with françois and conan at 7H00 pont de la manda with full tanks. Meeting Michel and his wife at jausier after riding le col de la bonette restefond. Then from jausier going to briançon through le col de Vars and le col de l'isoar. Deciding it's too early to have lunch in briançon so up to le col du lautaret, then obvioulsy col du galibier et col du télégraph, down to St jean la maurienne, filling up the tanks of the dukes, and hop toward le col de la croix de fer, lunch en route, then col de la croix de fer, col du glandon and down to allemont. From allemont we're heading up to bourg d'oizans back to le col du lautaret, down to briançon and again col de l'isoar and col de vars, jausier, barcelonette and St martin d'entraune through le col de la couillole. Dinner at St martin and back to le pont de la manda through les gorges du daluis. Finally motorway through too grasse..

Well i still keep on looking around for Tuonos,Gilo. Theres a 2007 model in blue/white not too far from me in Elgin.. had a look but i dont think hes into trading my bike for it.Private prices look attractive compared to his £5200-ish for 11k. Maybe in a year or so. Cant wait to try them as i havent been on one yet.

martinxyz - if you want a full-fat sportsbike but with high bars and (relative) comfort then you'd love a Tuono. They really are the sportsbike for the ermmmm older gent with joints less supple than they once were.....

Today's fun involved Bristol - Chepstow - Usk - Aber - Brecon - Upper Chapel - Builth Wells - Crossgates (for fry-up) - Newtown (and back, it's that good)- Talgarth - Aber - Usk - Chepstow - Bristol.

Amazen................ 😀
