[#6716744]

Woke up this morning unable to open the left side of my jaw fully. Right side is fine. No pain in the gums or teeth. Dull pain when I try to open the jaw.

Internet says I've got Tetanus or I'm about to die. While I sit here contemplating life and waiting for the reaper, any opinions or experience of this? Was fine when I went to bed last night.

Cycling and running means cuts and bruises are a regular thing, but can't pinpoint a specific altercation with a rusty barb or similar recently.

Yeah, so the right side has no resistance or pain. The left side has pain from the jaw hinge.

Pornstar's Jaw

Might be worth a call to your dentist for some advice?

Go see your dentist if it continues.

they'll only be interested in your teeth - your jaw is outside of their remit so unless you're sure a tooth is the cause of the problem see a doctor.

I had similar symptoms to you as a result of an ear infection - your ear is much closer to where your jaw hinges than any of your teeth are.

Thanks all. I'll give it the weekend and hope I'm still here on Monday to see if it's any better.

Chances of getting a doctors appointment round here before 2015 are unlikely.

Stressed?

I clench my teeth in the night and it gives me a lot of jaw muscle pain.

You would know if it was Bell's Palsy, you wouldn't be able to move parts of your face. I reckon andyl has it: TMD. You can get it from leaning your chin on your wrist while you work or grinding your teeth or just sleeping with the jaw at a funny angle. Try moving the jaw back or forward before opening it (slowly), see if it clicks.

Absolutely. We know nowt about anything other than teeth. Most doctors I know have an awesome recall of head and neck anatomy. 🙄

Likely some derangement of the joint, probably acute and should settle with rest, soft diet, anti inflammatories and cold/heat over the joint. If it persists then TMD. Worth mentioning to the dentist when you see them or go and have it looked at if it doesn't settle soon. HTH.

Edit: if the doctor will see you at quarter past eight that would be soon enough 😉

What you want to do is, knock out all your front teeth so you can eat through a straw and not have to open your mouth. This is quite expensive if you go to a dentist, but I'll do it for free
