I've been keeping a food diary this week, if I lose weight on Friday I'll share it. No idea how many calories I've been eating in a day, I've just been eating less than I usually would.
This. A lot less. Still not had a single packet of crisps or anything snacky, of anything pastry related (a genuine first!). Replaced my usual lunchtime doorstop butty with something healthy. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs today. No bread. Thats healthy right? Mrs Binners went to Fat Club weigh-in yesterday and she's shifted 5ib so far. Resisting the urge to weigh myself before Friday. If I've not lost owt, I'll be gutted!
I'm also setting myself goals. We're going to Keswick for the weekend at the end of the month. If I can keep this regime up for the month and shift some timber, then my reward will be a trip to the George for this...
... their legendary cow pie! About a months calories in one beautiful, delicious hit! At which point I'll probably lapse into a coma. 🙂
Right.... off out for a walk in'th'ills. I was going to go out on the bike, but there are bits of street furniture being blown down the road, so I reckon I've more chance of staying upright without the whole wheels business. Low centre of gravity, and all that....
Still not had a single packet of crisps
I've been eating quavers. Like diet crisps.
I've been weighing up these, as they're also made of air, right?
I've packed in the crisps as a conscious thing, as more than anything I'm trying to get out of grazing all day like a heifer. Its just too easy when you work from home. Theres no shame associated with ramming handfuls of wotsits into your gob while sat in your pants. You should see the looks I get when I do it in peoples offices. Modern society is just SO judgemental!
Right... to the hills!
When weighing up my choice of diet crisps, I ruled out Skips and Wotsits due to their relatively high sugar content. 1.1g per pack vs Quavers 0.4g.
I picked up some rice cakes as well. Just had one, and they're now in the bin. Polystyrene.
Oh crisps I remember those....
It was commented on in the office that they have noticed my snacking is no more as the usual pile of treats and stuff that tend to float around the offices seem to be lasting longer,
Not sure if I should be proud or not

Aldi do chocolate coated ones (and yogurt coated).
It's like cereal bars, tastes like it should be healthy, but still isn't good for you.
Sounds delicious.
It's better than it sounds. Today's version had:
2 apples
1 cucumber
Handful of spinach
lime
ginger
mint
Sounds random but it's good and also a good way of emptying the fridge of veg at times. I won't say it's always good to look at tho, the carrot and spinach was brownish which isn't great in a drink that isn't chocolate milk.
While I am talking about, well I wasn't but I am now, substitutions for nice foods.
Waitrose do a lovely yoghurt coleslaw. A fraction more sugar, but a big bowl of salad with quarter of a pot dumped on top makes a quick, low calories lunch. Not too pricey at £1.40.
....yeah, I live round the corner from a Waitrose.
Regular coleslaw:

[tough love bad cop]Just don't eat crisps, diet or otherwise[/tough love bad cop]

Have you tried their Moroccan couscous (and was there ever a more Waitrose product)? It's right nice love.
Shop couscous is normally very high calorie.
^^ this. Shop salads can be really bad, need to look at the label. It's all about the dressing.
Well that was awful. Its so depressing trying to plan some kind of exercise routine when you live in a grim post-industrial northern wasteland...

So I must have scrubbed off some serious calories there. I was walking into what appeared to be a hurricane, through ground with the consistency of porridge. So I've got back and I'm now absolutely bloody starving. Got out of the shower and I couldn't resist the temptation to jump on the scales to either encourage me or demoralise me completely...
4lb's off since last week 🙂 I'm celebrating with a tangerine. I know how to live!
Did someone say lunch...
Sub 400 Calories as well

Ron, you've just bought a kebab and removed the meat and pitta?
I snack on my kids pom bear crisps. Only 80 cals a pack. Must be healthy.
Scamper if you look closely there is roast pork (cooked in slow cooker on a bed of onion) in there, with a balsamic vinegar chilli dressing thing i made so yes it is kinda like a no pitta kebab thing...
at least thats what I keep telling myself
Mrs Binners has been on a health kick big shop. There are now green things in our kitchen that I've never seen before and can't actually identify.
But on a contradictory note, I've just discovered that a packet of cheese and onion French Fries that you find down the back of the (usually) interesting bit of the cupboards is only 79 calories, and doesn't taste any the worse for being 2 months out of date
Forgive me Chub Club for I have sinned....
😥

Those are vegetables. I've read about them on the internet. Not for me.

So far, so good this week.
Porridge for breakfast.
Made lunches for the week on Sunday that is basically tomatoes, turkey mince, leeks and 1 cup of brown rice. That'll last 5 days.
Dinner is so far zero carb, lean protein, a bit of fat and veg.
1 or 2 apples per day to snack on.
And 30 mins exercise minimum per day.
If that doesn't work I'm stuffed.
Lunge - There are terrorist cells embedded in the deserts in Syria that are eating a more fulfilling diet than that
I just went into the loft to see if I still had P90x DVD's and there were the remains of a chocolate biscuit in the box.
Past me clearly lacked motivation too!

Question.
Why zero carb lunch, when you're surrounding it with carbs?

That's not an unfair comment actually.
It is forcing me to be a bit more creative with my cooking, different types of veg, different dressings, different ways to prepare the protein part. Oddly quite enjoyable, I tend to eat late, 8pm ish, so I get quite hungry late afternoon but I'm bit of hunger is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things if this works!

Lunch isn't zero carb, it has some brown rice with it.
Dinner is zero carb and I try to avoid carbs in general after 4pm. No science behind this, just trying it to see if it works.
No science behind this,
Agreed 🙂
This however....
didn't you get the memo? We don't trust experts any more. This is post truth dieting, just do anything as long as it looks vaguely thought through to 25% of the population.
I shall be having a low carb / high protein tea by the way - I have 2 cod fillets and some cauliflower (floretted, covered in cajun spices and oven baked for 20 mins) - but that's my dinner on day 2 this week of my 5:2 so i'm done again for the week.
And I shall be having porridge with a dollop of strawberry jam and some blueberries in tomorrow morning - a genuinely red, white and blue breakfast.

Yes!!!!
It's also worth bearing in mind that this style of eating is wonderful Sunday to Thursday. Where it trips up this week is Friday (lunch meeting in London, booze will be involved) and Saturday (catching up with friends, we're meeting in the pub at 5pm...). Basically I'm hoping to smash it in the week and not mess it up too much over the weekend.
So had a little pre weigh in, weigh in this morning. Not wishing to tempt fate, but cos I was curious...
13st on the button, down from 13:5!
Will see how I go on Friday morning but fingers crossed moving in the right directions.
So far have cut down refined carbs, cut down on sugar intake, increased vegetable intake and that's about it. Oh and drinking less... Except for Sunday which was the GF's birthday, but that was mostly Gin, which is like water right? 😉
Not being constantly bloated by bread/pasta/potatoes is starting to feel good too, even as nice as they taste. Been reunited with an old friend too, not seen him in a while!
mboy - Member13st on the button, down from 13:5!
we only operate in lbs dont you know
(insert smiley face)
I don't think I have ever felt bloated off a potato.
Anyway, LBS or GTFO 😀
🙂

A potato (singular)... Maybe not...
The quantity I normally eat potatoes in... It's quite easy I can assure you!
Welcome to food comparisons. An occasional series of posts where I compare foods.
This week:
Ham, cheese and yoghurt coleslaw salad I just made, which took me about 30 mins to trough through.
450 calories.
5 chocolate hobnobs. Which I would have absent mindedly snaffled while watching telly in about 2 minutes.
450 calories.
Tune in next week, or they'll kill me!
Hi Jon
For tomorrow's weigh in do you want us to put the relevant details in the email title to save you having to open all emails?
We could all follow the same format to make it easier such as:
STW Chub Club 13/01/17 username xxx
Where xxx is the weight in lbs?
That's a smart idea - even just stw name and lbs is enough
Jon, did I get 'registered'? I don't know if we were supposed to receive anything from you by email, but I didn't.
Quick spin on the rollers this morning, only fell off once. Luckily the bike didn't jerk backwards into an old table that's in the garage, which didn't bash into another old table that's in the garage, which didn't bash into the garage door, which didn't make massive bang, so the wife didn't have to stick her head out of the back door to check everything was all right.
Saxon rider,
just checked the googledoc and you are on there
@saxon
yes you were registered and you were on the email sent out on 4th jan. Check your spam folder, a few seem to have found it in there. it was a gmail address related to this site.
I see you have also emailed me your result. You do realise it's Thursday and weigh in's are on Friday (maybe not if the email didn't get through)?
And good try on the email but you just sent me "STW xxxlbs" when what I'd like is your STW name and weight (in lbs)
eg: Saxonrider xxxlbs
I know you're from STW, I'm not running chub club for anyone else. And I'm beginning to wonder why I'm trying to run this one too 😉
Message received! 😳
Anyway, no, I definitely didn't get the initial inbox. Having just now checked my spam folder, there is nothing from you. I did, however, get your reply to my eager, if miscast, weigh-in email!
will check the original email but shouldn't be an error, as they were all c&p'ed in

For avoidance of doubt
weigh in's (in lbs) on every other friday, starting tomorrow - exception is end Mar (because there are 13 weeks in a quarter and we want a 3mo check) when there will be an extra weigh in. I will post a reminder on here and by email although not sure all emails are getting through.
If you can email me with a subject line of <YOUR STW NAME> xxxlbs - eg: theotherjonv 200lbs then i don't have to 'read' 70 emails.
Feel free to post up on here as well with thoughts on how it's going, what's working (or not), etc. It's here the magic and motivation happens, I'm just keeping score.
If i don't get an email from you I'll just roll over your old weight. No expulsions for not sending data in, but obvs if you want to be removed let me know.
Updates won't be instantaneous on the s/sheet, but I'll aim to have them totaled and done by sunday eve.
OK?
Ok. My money is on 27% of the entrants sending their weights in in kg.
Also, I think we'll see a 14% drop out rate.
Jon, you may not get my weight Saturday morning as I don't think I'll be home until late Friday and will likely be unable to stand on scales if my bosses plans for boozing tomorrow come to fruition... For that I apologise, the mail will be with you by 10am Saturday morning.
that's fine, as i said another reason for having Friday as a weigh in is so that I have the weekend to do updates.
