We will be in touch
Evening all, first time this has ever happened to me in 20 years of driving. Neighbour reversed into my car....admitted liability, multiple apologies....said they wanted to be given opportunity to settle without getting insurance involved. Fine I thought...took for a few quotes today, £1100 repair so looks like we will have to go through insurance.
Question is - do I have to call my insurance? Or can I just call up his and deal with them directly?
You ring yours, he rings his, then you leave them to it.
(Or you make them an offer they can't refuse...)
You can deal with his direct generally if you want as well. I did this recently after an accident, the other party was insured with NFU nd they couldn't have been more helpful.
Yes, you can deal with theirs directly. But remember also that your insurance company are there to help you. Whilst his insurance company want to put out as little money as possible. Though for something so straight forward I doubt they'll quibble much, they have bigger fish to fry.
Allegedly, and I don't know how true this is, even if you don't claim from your own insurance company, if you tell them you've had an accident, regardless of whether you were driving at the time, they will raise your premiums. For the simple fact that you will then statistically be more likely to be involved in another accident.
You are correct and always have to tell your insurance company if you are involved in an accident. It's about the driver not the vehicle though, so even if you are driving another vehicle on different insurance you still have to tell them.
