I have a KOM on my commute which I've fought tooth and nail to get and now finally, with assistance from last nights strong winds I have it (is that cheating?). It's taken me since August when I started using Strava. It's now without doubt my favourite KOM. Who here has one and why is it your favourite KOM?

This one :D

Do it almost every day and it's a proper lung busting, leg burning painfest and i think it's pretty much safe for the moment.

There's 2-3 of us South Manchester commuters that are fighting it out for KOMs on the way in to town and there's a bit of good natured banter going on, everyone is varying routes to take in segments, leaving early/later to avoid traffic and get a good run in, defintely makes the commute more fun!

Edit: it's a 30mph speed limit so i had to hold back a bit ofc 😉

I have one - its a 11k uphill [s]loop[/s] segment but is actually a B road with rollers, climbs, and a downhill with a mini roundabout 2/3rds down which requires absolute concentration and focus if you are going to get over it without braking at 40mph (ahem).

Currently hold the record at 21mins - 3 mins in front of the chap who took it away from me last time - yes I went out with intent 😀

Scaled...Four seconds is a fair old gap considering everyone behind you is one second away from each other.

How is it possible to have an uphill loop? 😀

Kryton I like getting a long segment especially if it's been ridden by a lot of riders. The longest segment I have is only two miles but I'm still more pleased with getting the one I've ridden hardest for and had more failed attempts at.

Beginning of the End - Coed-y-Brenin: http://app.strava.com/segments/1104347

Because I dropped my chain near the top and had a foot come unclipped right and the end, and still got it. And because I'm not a local either 🙂

Yeah I have one - the Spielbergweg 369 Climb in Saalback Hinterglemm, Austria. I actually got this KOM while racing at the World Games this year so it holds special memories. Although those memories are pretty savage and lactic acid filled.........

Snowdon Rangers was probably the best to see, but that's long gone now of course. Ditto Castle Crags in the Lakes.

So just the single remaining road KOM that I've got. It's very competitive round this way!

At one point I had almost all of the punchy little off-road climbs out of Caversham. They've basically all been taken over by actual fast people, and I'm left with two nothing-much segments and two descents back into Reading.

If anyone ever manages this any faster (no technique required other than good cornering on concrete farm road, and gravel avoidance), I'll shake them by the hand, possibly in hospital. I've given up even trying to beat it, it was too scary

I've had a few taken off me recently, so my favorite I currently own is this one:

My KOM

But, in case you're out there, this one is rightfully mine, and I WILL TAKE IT AGAIN

It's mine

Oh hell yeah, I'm getting this back when I get the geared MTB back out in the spring. It's just being looked after for me.

Off road, it has to be Sherwood Pines Red Route: http://app.strava.com/segments/1391641

On Road, probably this one, only because it's a highly fought one in the club, for some reason!

I quite like this one... http://www.strava.com/segments/tarbert-climb-1700740

mostly, because I'm the only person on Strava stupid enough to have taken a bike there (and a fully loaded one at that). Can't be many KOMs with a 2.2 mph average speed 😆

I would say it's not sporting, but then Strava isn't sport - it's way more serious 😆 so yeah go for it. Everyone can take advantage of a tailwind so it still puts people on an even footing.

This is the one that i'm coveting though

http://app.strava.com/activities/28011357#503737569

Mark McPhillips I WILL GET YOU (once it's dry, and i'm allowed out in the daylight again)

8 seconds is a lot though, and every time i try and get down there faster i end up bending a pedal or something 😐

My favourite was Limestone Way (or Cavedale) full, but just had that poached.

[wang waving mode]

So it has to be Jacob's Ladder full descent via the footpath or Roych Clough to the gate.

[/wang waving mode]

Haven't used it much recently, but Roych Clough in particular is holding its own...since May and with 300+ attempts at it 😀

Scaled - McPhillips is a ****er - got a ton of local KOMs. I've heard he cheats though & rides on the smooth edges & not the man lines 😉 (he's dafaffmaster on 'ere...i'm sure he'll be around soon!)

These are two of my favourite commute ones

Upper Street, Islington

http://app.strava.com/segments/940877

Blackfriars Bridge Sprint Southbound 1st/1421

http://app.strava.com/segments/788605

Blackfriars Bridge Sprint Northbound KOM'd but lost it recently and now 3rd grrrrr. It will be mine. I find the two times ahead of me a bit unbelievable. Been some serious drafting going on there...but I would say that 😉

Dollywagon is my favourite KOM decent and my favourite climb is this one in't Peak A57 Climb and this one has been a battle between me and another chap for a few months now. At the min i'm on holding on to it but i think it could be lost if we get a hard frost Goit All won on my rather over the top Nukeproof Mega 😀

This one

Do it almost every day and it's a proper lung busting, leg burning painfest and i think it's pretty much safe for the moment.

I ride that one too most days. Sadly I'm way down in 33rd (on account of riding a singlespeed with an insufficient gear of course :-)).

This one is probably my 'favourite', although it never feels like it at the time.

this is my favourite (road) climb, its a proper lung buster, the steep section through the copse is always slippery and there is no let up right to the end! shut up legs!...

Near tunnel hill, I rode 1.5 miles around several football pitchs, to write "boobs". 😀
Had to put it up as a segment.

times recorded on mobiles don't count m'kay?

I tried GPS on and android device, iOS device and Garmin all on the same run (SADDO ALERT!) and they varied by ~20%. The garmin seemed to give the most consistent readings.

STRAAAAAAVVVVVAAAAAAAA! 😈

( actually I'm a bit hacked off with strava as it turns out i'm shite and all my KoMs disappear 🙁 )

Got a couple I'm proud of. Well, did have till I lost the road one. Got a couple at gisburn but the one of I'm proud off is the " up fireroad, down hope line and back up again " happy about holding KOM due to needing fitness to get up the fireroad (twice) and the dh "skills" for the hope line. The one I lost recently is a long (ish) 4.3 mile road segment. Why was I happy about holding this KOM? It was done on a 26" wheeled hybrid I paid £120 for, compaired to some 15lb super road bike.

This thread prompted me to write a blog about Strava, from my Singletrack-IT-Middle-Manager point of view, in case you're interested:

This one. Simply because I currently hold 3rd on the segment and I obtained that while riding a Boris bike. Working out how to get a proper bike in to London for a go.

I like the one that I was awarded by a Strava glitch.. I didn't hold the title for long but it is still proudly displayed in my profile, even though I was off the pace by a very big margin..

It is very likely that this computer error will be the only KOM I am ever awarded.. 😀

No KOM for me yet but close to a couple. It's a good feeling getting top twenty out of 1700, must try harder.

This one, because Peachos really wants it and he owes me a pint because of it
http://app.strava.com/segments/850639

I also named a segment after Peachos in respect of his efforts 😳

........unfortunately I've now lost that one to one of Peachos fast mates

My favourite 🙂

1,000ft descent.

I have noticed that I fair better on downhill sections rather than uphill ,probably extra weight advantage/disadvantage. 😆
