It's not the landings that freak me out, it's watching the planes still getting blown about once they're on the ground, that's crazy
Millenium Dome's owners stuck on hold to the insurance because all the operators are busy watching the planes.
So we’re saying that not only is property more expensive in the South, it’s not built or maintained to the same standards either?
Yes, we know its shit down south, don’t rub it in.
Hmmm. I know we don’t get Western Isles levels of wind… but some areas down south aren’t exactly sheltered either.
“Orange warning in place for most of the UK, everywhere from the M62 corridor, South”
Not even 1/3 of the country! Its the same as ever - hits the south east its important. Hit anywhere else in the UK its not

weather unusual in a heavily populated area more interesting than weather which regularly occurs in sparsely populated area shocker, more at 11
Spire of St Thomas Church in Wells, Somerset just got taken off, seriously hope no one was underneath that when it fell. :-O
Can someone check on Adam Buxton ASAP?

So you've got people in Scotland saying this is normal and stop making a fuss; and also people in Scotland complaining that no-one's making a fuss about it.
Make your mind up.
BOSH! now trending no.2 on Twitter.
Just kicked up a couple of nothces here in south Manchester.
Hmmm. I know we don’t get Western Isles levels of wind… but some areas down south aren’t exactly sheltered either.
And the Southerners are so miserable they've no sense of humour 😉
you'd be miserable if you were paying £3k/month rent on a garden shed
😉

Because some posters aren't intending it to be humorous maybe
Just starting to blow in HD7.
I've just watched next door's hen lay the same egg twice.
Make your mind up.
My mind is made up - its the old classic "its only important if it happens in the south east"! Its also ignoring a large part of the english population
It can both be this and fuss over nothing - it often is with weather events
Windgust at the needles is provisionally strongest ever in England... is that south enough for you TJ?
With that spire in Wells, I thought of both “The Omen” and “Hot Fuzz”. Luckily no-one injured.
Shame about the O2 arena.
Simply Red, who had been due to play the venue this weekend but postponed due to Covid, described the damage as "tragic".

God's way of making sure no one sees them.

So commonplace in Scotland, it barely makes the news…
Some-one just turned up the wind speed in West Yorkshire!
Not even 1/3 of the country! Its the same as ever – hits the south east its important. Hit anywhere else in the UK its not
News sites are probably measuring by the click, not by the acreage of land associated with each click.
@Scapegoat I’ve just sussed out your username (waves out of window from Golcar) 😀

News is something that happens today that didn’t yesterday

There were news reports on storm Arwen,Barra and Corrie.
They didn’t impact on me Living in London but still made the news.
The wee crankie is hardly ever not in the news down here.
I don’t complain about it though
Probably too far west to be important
Popped down the beach at lunch. Could barely stand up, never felt wind that strong.

Shingle beach doing a phenomenal job of sucking all the energy out of the waves.
As I was walking back to work came across a family heading to the beach. The kids had sheets on their backs tied to their ankles and wrists. I advised that I could barely stand and that the kids could genuinely die. They laughed and carried on.
😳🤦🏻♂️

I think we need a sticky thread so northerners and Scots can complain every time there's a storm that either does or doesn't get mentioned...whichever way round it is that they want
For context - max recorded UK windspeeds before today
123.4 knots (142 mph) 13-Feb-1989 Fraserburgh
107.8 knots (124 mph) 12-Jan-1974 Kilkeel, County Down
102.5 knots (118 mph) 15-Dec-1979 Gwennap Head, Cornwall
not sure about Wales
There's a Scotland?
Some-one just turned up the wind speed in West Yorkshire!
Max gusts were forecast for 3pm
The kids had sheets on their backs tied to their ankles and wrists.
literally tied to every limb while just walking down the street? full size bedsheet? please go back and video this
That's a good solid pier there
Max recorded windspeed - Cairngorm summit hit 173mph back in Oct 1986. I believe that’s the highest recorded gust in UK
Aye but that's Scotland and it happens all the time... 🙄
Had the day off and been swimming with the family. Just driven the 4 ish miles back home across South London and had trees down blocking roads in several places. 2 kids asleep so I'm sat in the car and wind is rocking it rather. Hmmm.
It’s got a bit wild up here in Northumberland now too, noting like a full on storm though.
There’s a Scotland?
I heard about it but there aren’t any near me, evidently it’s like an Iceland but without a fresh vegetables section or any low calorie frozen meals.
Big on fizzy pop though.
Aye but that’s Scotland and it happens all the time… 🙄
Well, it’s the Cairngorms, which have a fairly unique topographical relationship (as far as the UK goes) with the wind.
Novel things making the news / unexciting things not making the news #2:
The current headline on the Guardian website is that a man was killed by a falling tree. In Ireland.
Coronavirus deaths in UK; about one every 8 minutes. Around 1200 last week.

Snowing heavily here again. I had to take shelter indoors 🍺😂
Simply Red, who had been due to play the venue this weekend but postponed due to Covid, described the damage as “tragic”.
When someone next asks of me why I believe in God (I am a Christian) I'll give that as an example. Rock solid evidence. 😀

In fairness some of the vids I've seen look pretty extreme and absolutely not the norm for glasgow or edinburgh, mibbe the norm if you live 500 metres up a hill, but most of us don't. 😆
It's a valid weather event that deserves coverage.
4 or 5 fence panels gone so far.
🙄
