Yeah updated to cover parts of the SE too.
Take care folks.
I wonder if most people on this thread understand how hard it is to walk or even remain standing still at these kinds of wind speeds
I'd expect the Scottish contingent are well aware..
Given the last couple of storms we have had
Not that it w got much air time or intervention from the powers that be.so can understand why folks might not be aware of them
I remember playing a football match in Grimsby where it was so windy that a goal kick into the wind led to a corner against the goalkeeper! The other goalkeeper could clear the opposite goal without it bouncing... we called it off at half time.
Just driven into work in Bristol and it's already a bit dicey on the Prince of Wales bridge for lorries. Wouldn't surprise me if both bridges are closed to them later, if not everyone. Been assigned a double decker truck today, must think like a Weeble!
06.04 and we have the first news presenter on BBC, stood in quayside telling us it’s stormy and don’t go out, and definitely not by the sea 🤣
715 reporter live on the front ( line) in Porthcawl . Presenter asking him what measures are being taken to prevent people travelling unnecessarily as there were dog walkers and people just wandering along behind him 🙄
I was joking about powerkiting.
I do have to go out on the Brompton shortly though, to rescue car from yesterday's service. Wind will be behind, hoping for a speed record.
Windguru forecast for camber sands is force 7 to 8 and mast high waves. BBC giving 30mph average That's not that unusual. The news seem to be over egging it lots. Should be a wild session on a 3.5m.
Multiple storms like we've had here in the NE of Scotland now mean that whole forests have been weakened; a few dozen trees down the first time, the wind gets into the gaps and the next storm brings down more and then more again. It's going to be an issue now for the rest of our lifetimes, many forests here in Angus have huge gaps in them that will take 30+ years to resolve.
Just look at the forest outside Edzell; over 95% of the trees are down over several square miles of forestry and it was storms Malkie/Corrie that did that, not Arwen.
Although 60-70 is quite normal up here it's so unusual in the SE that the Red is probably highly deserved; the forests just aren't accustomed to that level of impact.
Two inches of snow here in the garden this morning and it's still dinging doon..
Oh well our work Xmas party was supposedly today, looks like it'll be postponed again!
Cornish surf cams looking fun.
I'm torn. I know I should be staying inside, but I also know that at about 4pm today there's going to be a 65mph tailwind down a Strava segment I've been after for years.
It really does show up the two tier system at times like these in the media 😉
Seriously though, good luck everyone and stay safe! Arwen was bad enough up here and this is forecast to be worse.
Rattling the tiles a bit in west Devon but not too bad so far.

Tell your ego it needs to stay safe, good luck. 🙂

Here in Sussex a huge proportion of the forest is ash, and nearly all of it is suffering ash die back.
Fingers crossed.

Winds picked up and he’s struggling to stay in front of the camera without being blown out of shot.
@goldfish24 -same here; I'm fully stocked up on ash logs for next winter already, turns out all of the ash trees around the farm here are rotten down the middle with the Die Back fungus. A couple of big ones close by have provided lots of exercise in recent weeks and I'm fairly getting through chain oil.. There's about 50 more ash around field margins on this farm that will have to come down soon (if they don't fall down in the winds or under the weight of snow).
Tell your ego it needs to stay safe, good luck.
I think I know who's KOM on Flaperon's segment 😉
Mumbles head gusting 75mph, doesnt feel anything special in suburban swansea though.
Feel a bit foolish tidying up the garden yesterday now!
Given the red warning in SE England I think we need an equivalent upgrade:
"Dont't play 90s EuroPop" has been elevated to "Do not play Def Leppard, Enya or any of the EMO sub-genres"
Feel a bit foolish tidying up the garden yesterday now!
i wouldn't be putting the bunting up yet...
Well I took the executive decision not to drive from Cheshire to Brighton today, and the missis isn't best pleased!
I was dubious doing it in amber wind, but red really not worth the risk. Just starting to pick up here now.
Do not play Def Leppard, Enya
Not often you those two bands grouped together....
Very quiet in North London. Met climbing down from 72mpg to 65mpg gusts at 12:00, weather.com showing 39mph.
I have a playlist featuring Slayer and Enya.... I might need to have a word with myself. Getting proper gusty in Chichester now. Not helped by the pic the missus sent me from a western australian beach this morning grrr

I was thinking about this earlier. Clearly 80mph winds in northern Scotland are nothing special, so why would they be in London?
Well, your typical Scottish coastal house gets subjected to this regularly and is essentially battle-hardened already. The chimney stack is probably pretty solid because if it weren't it would have blown over during any of the storms that winter. And if it looked ropey some local would have gone 'oh that needs some attention before the winter'. Likewise things like shop and pub signs, they are probably securely affixed. Whereas somewhere less windy, there are thousands of chimney pots and roofs that have been ageing quite nicely over the last thirty years, and when a freak wind event comes along they could all be blown over. And people are probably not used to tidying their street/garden furniture away. They might remember the trampoline but forget about something else which then gets blown away. And of course there are many many more trampolines and chimney stacks and shop signs in London than in Northern Scotland.
I'm sat in my caravan at Slimbridge in Glos. Just on the edge of the Red/Amber warning split. It's a bit gusty, but seen worse.
Site work is off for the day - solar farm right in the heart of the Red zone on the South Wales coast

I'm not on the coast, and also did you miss the 😉 ?

and people. tree/branch/tile/chimney/bin getting blown down in the SE has a far higher probability of hitting someone.
Really boringly quiet in West London - a slight breeze while bbc weather says we should be having 70mph winds right now.
Rather everyone be over cautious and it turns out to be not quite as bad as forecast
Brighton sea front is a bit breezy 😳
Not often you those two bands grouped together….
My Apple account will really freak you out!
Daughters school officially closing at 1.15 here in wildest Ilkeston, as the school bus company don't seem to want their double decker buses out at the regular time, which is forecast to be peek wind.
@footflaps – it’s a red warning, we all have to make sacrifices.
Surely 'Sail away' would be quite appropriate for a stormy day....
How about The Lafontaines "Under the storm"?
It's the nicest day we've had in ages up in't'ills.
Its actually stopped raining for once
We're 3rd floor of 10 floor large office block. First time ever I felt it moving!
Feel a bit sea sick and the lights keep flickering.
Not your usual Friday.
Down the road from sunny Ilkeston, daughter's school is on an inset so was shut already (as she reminded me when I tried to wake her up).
It's a bit breezy but nothing major yet
Winds have really picked up here in SO18 in the last ~30mins, massive coniferous tree opposite lost two huge branches that barely missed a parked car.
Wheelie bin just blew over in Maidstone, Kent. 😮
It's proper picked up in the last 30 mins, some big old gusts coming through. I'm high up too with not much blocking the wind.
Peak windspeeds in the midlands/NW/Yorkshire start around lunchtime

Interesting, we move to a 10 storey building in April.
