good call bagpuss!

Right. Let's get this sorted. The "STW recently turned non-smokers pre x-mas / 1 month in to stopping get together in somewhere near Manchester but deffo on the 30th November" do needs organising.

I'll start with the suggestion of 7:30 somewhere in Manchester. Drink followed by curry? STWer +1 on the invites.

Thoughts?

@ Morgs.

Sounds good, mate.

I don't know Manchester at all, so REALLY good directions may be in order!

Don't tell me you're quitting quitting, Lady G?

I can do the Mr. Motivator thing, if it helps... 8)

I really shouldn't quit quitting, but I just don't seem to be in the right frame of mind.

I think the festival of AWESOME is a great idea. A big feed should feature prominently in proceedings I think ๐Ÿ˜€

Liking the get together idea, not too far away for me (Brighouse)
Non smoking is good for your social life too!

3rd Satsuma of the morning here.

As far as the get together is concerned - and I make no apologies for this being a pretty left-field idea - should we go out and ride our bikes somewhere? Then have a few beers afterwards.

We can marvel at the mutual non-weazing up hills ๐Ÿ˜€

Wait until you can't taste the cigs anymore and then smell the breath of a smoker!. It made me stop overnight!!

binners - would love to...but I can't do weekends pre xmas and need to invest in some lights (and get some fitness / skills from somewhere!)

How's about keep it as a social and arrange a proper ride out in Jan? I know it is a long way off, but gives us all time to book it in the diary and then we could do something AWESOME like Nanty or Coed-y-Brenin or something...?

That sounds like a great plan Morgs. I'm in!

And I'd just like to add that we went out to watch a band and have a few beers last night with some mates. None were smokers. I didn't actually think about having a cig all night. I find that whole thing quite liberating

Manchester is a little far for me for a Thursday evening , I might be able to make a Nanty trip though if I can combine it with a trip to see my parents.

As an aside: Oooh. Day 4 is a toughie. Off to go to the pub for lunch now too, this is going to be hard work.

Afternoon crew,

I'm going to struggle to make 30th Dec for similar reasons to Khani, but think this:

How's about keep it as a social and arrange a proper ride out in Jan? I know it is a long way off, but gives us all time to book it in the diary and then we could do something AWESOME like Nanty or Coed-y-Brenin or something...?

Is an awesome idea! def be interested 8)

Huws, good going fella! I'm cacking myself about the wkend a little bit too...I've got my kids this wkend and usually when they start biting chunks out of each other I usually let them crack on as I disapear into the safe haven of the garden for a smoke.

Now it looks like I'm going to hafta be a proper parent and EVERYTHING! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

fenred - on the flipside, your kids will be made up. Mine are well chuffed that I've packed in, and this manifests itself in a limitless supply of hugs. ๐Ÿ˜€

I'm there - provisionally...

Give me a few days to make sure I can be there at this 'Deansgate' you mention.

Shouldn't be a problem though.

Fenred, I was a serial escaper, too, and I was fairly sure I couldn't get though a weekend with hyperactive Camo jnr. As it turned out it was okay... and, as binners says, smoke-less time with your kids can be fantastic.

It's not a bad idea to have another escape route planned, though, just in case. 8)

You're right binners, that was a half tongue in cheek post from me but they will be chuffed to bits, I kept on promising I'd quit and after I did a firework display for them t'other wkend my 8 year saw me light-up and looked at me sadly and said "daddy , please give up smoking it makes your lungs go black and I dont want you having horrible black lungs and get ill and die"
**** me, dont mind admitting I nearly 'bottom-lipped' on the spot! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Needed that kick in the danglies (and this thread of course) to sort my game out.

ok - 2 things guys!

1) - Nanty is a goer! IF we make a weekend of it, hows about staying in Aberystwyth meet up fri night go for a few sherberts, ride out on Sat with various routes etc for different paces. Sat night is a meal / p*** up then a ride on Sunday at circa 11 for a few hours before we trundle off home? I'd suggest the later on in the month / maybe early feb as then the students are back and its a good atmosphere (I'm Aber Alumni)

2) - IT IS THE 1ST DECEMBER, NOT THE 30th NOV!!!!! (if that makes a difference to anyone!

Aberystwyth, eh?

Haven't been back to my hometown in, oh, more than 15 years. Added-incentive-tastic!

Is Deansgate in Central Manchester, guys ( * apologises in advance for idiotic comment * ) ?

Morgs. I'm loving your work there fella. We'll make sure it doesn't clash with Hit the North which is 4th Feb.

February sounds great though. Gives us plenty of time to get organised. I've only ever ridden Nanty in a few inches of snow. It was comedy mayhem! And we stayed in a hotel with the unfriendliest owners in the whole world. They made Basil Faulty look like the ideal host

And Deansgate is a very long road right through the centre of town

Hip-flask in the bushes, maybe?

I went upstairs, thrashed out some chunky chords on the guitar and came back a couple of minutes later feeling pretty chilled.

And Deansgate is a very long road right through the centre of town

Cool.

Only ever been through your fair city once and that was on a National Express... ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Nice and regular, thanks Elf. Morning and evening, the brown goes down. It's like clockwork and Swiss people. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mine are all good thanks Elf, all bar the slightly disturbing 'looks like i've had a heavy night on the guinness' colouring which I am reliably informed is a consequence of the body releasing/riding itself of toxins/poisons...Apols for the detail, but you asked ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well done you lot!

Still smoke-free here too!

Went out on't mountain bike Saturday and did the commute on the road bike this morning. Both involved big climbs. I swear I'm feeling the benefit already. I might be imagining that, but its sufficient encouragement ๐Ÿ˜€
