Khani is, he only lives down the road from where I work...Police are apparently already considering cordoning off the immdeiate area. Please dont mock me guys, I've actually been an ex-pooer for longer than I've been a ex-smoker
Smoking used to keep me regular as well and I would always struggle when I stopped 🙁
As a result I would switch to All Bran for breakfast and keep some Fybogel or Sennokot in the cupboard if things get really.
You have my sympathies, but give it time and your body will regulate itself again.
Day 2 in the Huw not smoking house, not going too badly, full to the brim with coffee, satsumas (2 for one in waitrose) and hate but no one’s dead yet. Although last night after being told there were going to be a bunch of redundancies at work my studio nearly looked like Francisco de Goya’s Great Deeds Against the Dead. Didn’t smoke though. 🙂
Fenred, I feel your pain, I once went 2 weeks without a poo due to the side effect of some serious pain killers, not something I’d like to repeat again.
I used to smoke about 10 a day when I gave up, so not exactly a heavy smoker, but I was a regular, habitual smoker, i.e. light up first thing in the morning, smoking after meals and drinks, etc., the nabit was strong.
Elf, not overly (about 10 a day) but for the last 20 years
I'm curious as to what people think is 'heavy' smoking. 10 a day = 70 a week = 300 a month = 3600 faygs a year.
Three thousand six hundred cigarettes a year, or thereabouts. Times that by something like 20 years, and what's that, seventy two thousand cigarettes.
Think about it.
Personally, I think any more than a couple of cigs a day is 'heavy'. I don't get through 10 cigs a week, let alone a day, on average. In fact I'm probbly smoking less than 20 a month I'd say.
Considering the cumulative effects, I'd still say that's too many. Food for thought. I'd ideally just like to have the odd ciggie now and then, on a night out as a little 'treat', that sort of thing. I know folk like that, and they're perfectly healthy.
I'm wondering how many people on here genuinely 'want' to give up. Putting aside the physical addiction side of things, it seems that many folk actually enjoyed smoking, yet are giving up cios it's bads for their health. Good reason enough.
But how many others have considered just cutting down, to say my level of smoking, or feeling that it's ok for them to have the odd ciggie now and then? Does it have to be complete abstinence?
I probably tried to give up 20+ times. Not sure of the main reasons for failure - weed sometimes played a big part though.
does not in any way sound like you actually 'wanted' to give up, tbh. Did you not consider cutting down instead of giving up completely?
Ho Hum, cheers for the tip. If I've not been by cob today I'll be heading for the pharmacy tonight to get some 'help'.
huws, go fella! Stress was one of my triggers too....as was getting out of bed, getting away from desk, getting home, getting drunk...Actually when you break it down, every feeling/emotion/event is a trigger. 😕
Elf, I'd put you in the 'recreational' smoker category, wish I could have done that but I'm a bit 'all or nuthin' 🙁
Elf - A "heavy" smoker, in my opinion, is 15+ per day.
You, at 10 per week, are an occasional smoker in my opinion.
I would go as far as to say that you smoke just as something to do and you enjoy it (I am sure this the case from having read your previous postings about smoking and you), which is fair enough.
Addiction is a strange disease, for me it is a progressive illness and by that I mean that if I started smoking one or two per day I would be back up to 10 a day within a week. It is all or nothing for me, so I chose nothing. Interestingly enough I am a heavy drinker, but I have been cutting that back recently without any ill effects and so I do not consider myself addicted to alcohol, but I have had serious problems with other substances in the past.
Prior to giving up this time you are probably correct in saying that I truly did not want to give up and that is where I failed. This time it was different as I had promised myself that I did not want to be a smoker when I reached 40. Also, up until a few years ago I did very little in the way of aerobic exercise and as a result the smoking wasn't a big issue, but I did find that the smoking was holding me back cycling-wise and that was another thing that helped me to give up.
Wouldn't life be boring if we were all the same?
fenred - I hope things improve for you. It will be interesting to hear what advice your pharmacist offers. I don't think we are alone in suffering such problems when having stopped smoking.

The only times I’ve ever given up for any length of time have been when I’ve just really not wanted to do it anymore, the cost and health benefits are nice but unimportant.
But how many others have considered just cutting down, to say my level of smoking, or feeling that it's ok for them to have the odd ciggie now and then? Does it have to be complete abstinence?
I can’t just have one, I’m either a smoker or a non-smoker. If I have one the chances are I’ll be back to full smoking within a few weeks. 🙁

From past experience one fag means Im a full on smoker again pretty soon.
16 days without smoking for me and I hardly think about it now some days!

This for me too. 😳
Nice one, cheese@4p!
Just wanted to check back in on this tread, hope everyone is still off the fags. Congratulatins if you are.
Keep up the good work

All,
I am delighted to report that at 14.21 I had the 'call', squeaked my way to the gents and let nature take it's wonderful course. All I can say is eating half your body weight in satsumas, pistachio nuts and last nights Chilli seems to have had quiet an effect on ones metabolism. 😯
Thank you for your kind words of support throughout this difficult time. I am now left with a slight sweat on my brow and a MASSIVE nicotine craving 😳
Fair enough.
Yay!
Now it's satsuma time, Fenred!
8)
I might hafta lay off the satsuma's for a little while Camo 🙁
Understood.
😉
I wondered why there was a mushroom cloud over Basildon..........
😀 There's always been a mushroom cloud over Baz mate, the concern for the town now should be whats going on underground 😉
...I should never have looked down....
Not having a curry tonight then... 😯
Nah, meat and two veg tonight...Need to replace lost nutrients...Nuff said 😉
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear - this is just not going that well for me 🙁
Yeti!!!! your the one that made me give up!!
I only snog non smokers you know? 😆
Lady G - Whats happening? Stop rolling those ciggies matchstick thin and grab this thing by the throat!!!!! 😕
I am a non smoker emsz!!
I just decided to have a week of self-loathing. TBH these stopping smoking threads seem to make me want to smoke more thatn anything else 😆
I have to admit to buying another pack of baccy - I'm so ashamed 😳
but I'm still cutting right down on 'em.
well.. I'm still smoke free
I've had a couple of years of bungled attempts but it's going very smoothly this time around..
I have many different reasons for giving up.. no one stand alone reason that is any more or less valid or dominant than the others..
Health, fitness, curiosity, family, the challenge, pride, money.. blah blah blah
it doesn't matter which ideas you instill in yourself to help you succeed..
I have to admit to buying another pack of baccy - I'm so ashamed
but I'm still cutting right down on 'em.
To the naughty stair with you M'Lady...That is all.
How long's it for you, Yunki? Great to hear you're quitting so smoothly! 8)
I quit 15 days ago. Can't say it's been smooth exactly, but it's getting better. The unexpected smell of smoke still initiates a major craving, but I'm trying to MTFU and keep my cool!
To everyone quitting right now (including Lady G * tsk tsk tsk * and Yeti * tsk tsk tsk *) I raise my glass and salute you!
*ching* back at you camo...despite being the noob I know I wouldn't have come this far without this thread/support network so cheers!
Double *ching* goes to binners for the smoking in cars thread...Nearly a new head gasket required there, the rant to end all rants! 😆
Afternoon Quiters,
Quiet here today, we fell onto page 3 so thought a quick bump and update was appropriate.
Everyone cool or have there been numerous a&e admissions with vit C OD's?? 😯
After my blip, I am sound! Not having a problem at all...aided my a migraine yesterday and the aftre affects today....so all is gravy in the non-smokingness! 🙂
Nice one morgs....Lets hope everyone else is in same boat and not turned umpa-lumpa orange.
🙂
well done morgs! Satsuma. I've got a job lot here. Though they're diminishing fast
fenred - I've had my new head gasket fitted after my rant. Its a pet subject. What the whiney, we-know-best anti-smoking lobby can't comprehend is that their perpetual, preachy monologues actually deter people from packing in. As we'd then be waiting for them to come and pat us on the head in the most patronising manner imaginable, like we'd finally come to our senses, and seen they were right all along. It'd only encourage their already insufferable smugness.
So... kindly butt out, shut the **** up! Stop trying to save us from ourselves. We don't need it! We'll do it in my own time, in our own way when we're all good and ready.
Which seems to be.... round..... abooooooooooout....... NOW! 🙂
I stopped on Sunday, my lungs actually started to work properly today, which was nice.
preachy monologues actually deter people from packing in
Too true, there is nothing smokers, non smokers or ex-smokers can say or do to make it any easier except get lost.
😯
*covers ears and runs away from binners crying and pleading not to get embroiled in the brimstone *
...But yeh, you're right bud. 😉
Hey gang!
You're all doing well, I see. I expected nothing less. Your AWESOME is stratospheric.
* bathes in the glory of Morgs, Binners, Fenred and the others' awesomeness and goes 'ahhhh....' *
Me, I'm doing okay... not tempted to smoke, but I am tempted to buy loads of random bling bling MTB bits as a surrogate treat of sorts. 😳
I stopped on Sunday, my lungs actually started to work properly today, which was nice.
Yay Sobriety - glad you're joining us!
but I am tempted to buy loads of random bling bling MTB bits as a surrogate treat of sorts.
Not just me then? 😉
Here's a good alternative for you though. As tried by myself and my good lady last weekend. Go out somewhere expensive, for something really nice to eat, washed down with lots of nice red. Remind your taste buds what they're for 😀
That, binners is a fantastic idea.
Something meal-and-treat-tastic for me and Mrs 16 shall be in this weekend's plan!
Loving the AWESOMAGEDDON tag BTW
😆
Just a quick note to say well done everyone and confirm that Binners is doing really well and is snoring less (not stopped 😈 ) and he is still as cantankerous as he was before so its hard to notice apart from every so often when I ask a question like would you like a brew dear to be welcomed with a tirade about the state of youth unemployment or David Camerons hair do....
.....I've taken to drinking Cava lying on the bed watching Hollyoaks.... 😆
David Camerons hair do.
Great that Binners is coping well, but don't get me freakin' started about that * and his super-slick * hair. AAAAARRRGGGHHHH! 👿
*pours self new glass of Cava and strikes camo16 off her 'people to visit who seem nice off STW' list*
😳
I am nice. Honest.
But I don't do well on lists. 😥
I'm just a little jumpy from all the shouting and ranting over the past few weeks.... 😆
Cheese and biscuit anyone?
Oooh cheese an biscuits, yes please 😀
I'm getting pig sick of satsumas...... 😕
