I've just been sent a SQL that a user run every day. I'm not even sure what DB it is.

Is it a left outer join syntax?. Can someone confirm please.

Where
Table1.Field1 (+)= Table2.Field2

That is plain weird.
Ask them what DB it is. I assume its some weird proprietary thing.

Looks like its Oracle and an outer join but here is the listing.
I am scared to look at it in case they bill me.
oracle weirdness

Definitely left outer join for Oracle. Could just use "LEFT OUTER JOIN" to make it more generally user friendly to read....

Too late, they've ordered a full audit of your entire company for which you will be billed...

But then the developer wouldn't be able to add the Oracle surcharge!

The "OUTER" doesn't do anything here, IIRC. It's just for readability.

I don't have access to the user and the original developer is long gone.

I've been asked to analyse the SQL and tell the business what it does and how it works Classic stuff huh.

So std Left join.

Much thanks folks.

You didn't read the contract - that's the daily recurring fee for answering the question. The fee recurs until you relinquish all Oracle licenses regardless of whether or not you continue to use that structure.
